oh my,we're starting our 18th !

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 20/01/2012 14:23

I haven't got that excuse, even!

BackforGood · 20/01/2012 14:24

ah - physicists will need maths - dh is a biochemist Grin
good to hear that my life clearly isn't boring then - indeed, if it's related to the amount of dust and other jobs that I don't get round to often, I must have a really exciting life Grin

Sometimesiwonder · 20/01/2012 14:57

I'll suggest biochemistry as a Plan B - at the moment she wants to be an astrophysicist (we bought her a telescope for Christmas, and had to take her to one of the StargazingLIVE events last week - she is hooked). I expect maths is needed for that.

My life is clearly amazing also. Though I live it in quite a crumpled way because ironing is another task with no point: but the clothes are clean and that's good enough for me.

In theory i COULD spend Sunday cleaning the house: but I'm taking dd to Hampton Court Palace instead. She's into the Tudors in a big way as well, and it'll be way more fun, especially if the carousel is still in the grounds

On the plus side - no comments ref dust yet from dd's friend. Am stunned Shock

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/01/2012 15:46

oh dear,I am dull- but I blame OCD on making me clean Grin
Ds back from school in quite a good mood-said the physics exam was fine and Geography ok (he really wants to do well in geog. as it's one of his GCSE choices- the biology/physic/chemistry are compulsory, though some take a combined science, others do all 3) I have saved him half of the last Crunchie and have bought him a doughnut and some sushi.
I know I'm hopeless with blood etc but I do quite wish I'd been a doctor -though am rubbish at maths- I was good at the sciences though and did Biology A level but it did get very much harder at that stage.

smee · 20/01/2012 16:00

Sparkle, that's a good tip - will look it up as it sounds v.up his street. He currently tests me on planets as we star gaze. Not that you can see a lot in London!

Hampton Court sounds like a good day out, Sometimes. Let me know how you get on. Might take DS sometime soon if you recommend it. Has DD's friend mentioned the 'd' word yet? Grin

amberlight · 20/01/2012 16:23

'Ello all. I am reading, as ever, and sending positive vibes/prayers/thoughts (depending on requirements). Naff week with emergency dash to hospital with dh's eye (er, if you see what I mean..) but still cheerful.

Skin still peeling after rads here too. Next Onc meeting Monday to decide yet again if I dare continue with the herceptin. Meantime, leaving a nice Brew on the side here with some virtual fbs.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/01/2012 17:23

is the maze still at Hampton Court ?
poor amber - I know it was a very stressful time for you this week with dh and all- fbs a must.

topsyturner · 20/01/2012 19:06

Hello All

The surgeon told me I would have to wait 2/3 years before she would consider me for a reconstruction .
I nearly laughed in her face as that's the same length of time my Oncologist said I had left Grin
Oh well , at least a reduction in 6 months or so will even me up a little .

What are the plans for the weekend then ? Apart from Hampton Court and star gazing !
I shall be mostly knitting as I finally made it to the wool shop today , thanks to the lift from a friend .
I now have knitters claw as I have spent the entire afternoon knitting .

Just waiting for DH to get in and then we will order summat nice from a takeaway . Can't be arsed to cook , lack motivation tonight !

amberlight · 20/01/2012 20:04

Yup, still a maze at Hampton Court, I believe.

Hurrah for takeaways!! Topsy, you bloomin well won't only have 2/3 yrs left! Bet you outlive the lot of us. New stuff out today on drugs that seem to stop it in its tracks in some cases so science is catching up fast. But yes, that's a hell of an ironic statement by the surgeon if the onc has told you that!!

Can't really knit. Well, I can knit, but holes appear where no holes should be Grin

Me, off to sunny Windsor with dh tomorrow morning to get his eye stared at again, then over to a conference in Oxford for me. Then ds's national rugby match on Sunday.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/01/2012 20:41

topsy-agree with amber !!

OP posts:
smee · 20/01/2012 21:07

Topsy, I agree with Amber too, who as we all know is very clever and knows her stuff. Thinking about it, my friend who's just had reconstruction had to wait 2 years too. What take away are you having then? We're having Thai. mmm...

Hope everyone's okay tonight. Bit worried about Camel, as she's not told us the full story. Am hoping she's celebrating, but don't understand the science.

Off to find Wine. Wishing you all similar. Smile

smee · 20/01/2012 21:08

Amber, meant to say what a pain about your poor DH's eye. Hope they sort him quickly in the morning. Sounds like a busy weekend. don't over do it now, or we'll send Topsy over with the duct tape. Grin

topsyturner · 20/01/2012 22:21

I have been worrying about Camel too . Come back and let us know if you are okay please ?

Thanks guys . I am not intending to stick to what the Onc originally told me , timewise ! Just made me laugh that they clearly do not have much communication between departments Grin

BackforGood · 20/01/2012 23:51

We loved Hampton Court when we went there (had booked a cottage for 3 days when we went to Legoland). We hadn't realised how good it would be and were quite slow getting going in the morning, so there was loads we hadn't seen/done when they threw us out at chucking out time. Had the added bonus of being free entry on their Blue Peter Cards Smile. I think the dcs were 10,8 and 5 when we went. I'd certainly go back if I was ever in the area again.

NedSchneebly · 21/01/2012 07:35

Hey topsy that's rubbish. . . Sorry surgeon not co operating.:-( i agree that not taking the onc's first offer is the way forward . . .

i feel quite refreshed after decent sleep. Hope everyone else had a good night?

Amber hope DHs eye sorted? Must be a worry.

All this talk of peeling skin is torture- i
love a good peely bit!

Got lovely sis coming today- she's bringing fbs. .
Hope everyone got a nice weekend planned? Amber- sounds manic- hope goes ok x

Agree about camel, would like to check in with her. . .
Brew anyone?

amberlight · 21/01/2012 08:23

...Yup, bit of a worry, given that if they can't get his eyesight right, he wouldn't be able to work any more and I'd have to support the family and cope with ongoing cancer treatment at the same time. We're hoping they're really good specialists. Seems so, so far.

marmitesandwiches · 21/01/2012 08:45

Morning all

marmitesandwiches · 21/01/2012 08:47

Your onc (not 'you onc')

Must stop posting on phone - or get better at it!

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/01/2012 09:16

happy birthday weekend to junior marmite
amber I do hope eye can be sorted- I'm assuming it's the same op my dad had ? (cataract removals) They are so clever and magical- dad had to have a correction made on one but is perfectly sighted now- I do know that you have added complications with dh and also the need for GA.The can work magic with their lasers ~(MAS feels queasy)
Didn't realise half term is so soon ! Handily ds's hospital appointment & blood test are during it - am making plans to go up to London en famille and to see friends.

OP posts:
OneInEight · 21/01/2012 10:27

Good-morning all,

Topsy - sorry consultant was not more co-operative.

Ned and Marmite - glad you are continuing to recover well from your ops. Enjoy the fbs & hope amber that the doctors sort out your d.h's eye problems out.

Smee and Sometimes - budding scientists here too - came home very excited because next week they are going to watch a heart dissection (not of the human kind you will be glad to hear)! although ds1 wants to be a jet engineer.
Fractions (or any complicated maths) is not required for cell biologists (my field) either so that is another option for your daughter Sometimes.

Sometimesiwonder · 21/01/2012 10:46

OneinEight - gulp. You sound like you have a very clever and grown up job. I am impressed - and i will add that to the last of non-mathsy things for dd to consider.

Happy birthday to junior marmite - 6. So grown-up!

Amber, I am hoping very much that the pesky eye can be sorted, what a worry for you all.

Topsy - just what the others have said, really. We're stuck with you for the foreseeable. Look how well you have responded to the treatment so far, and how many new things are coming up all the time. x

Smee - remarkably, no mentions of the 'd' word from dd's friend who is now officially higher in my estimation as a result. Noble.

MAS - you are not dull! Cleanliness is next to Godliness, which is a status I am also unlikely to approach, however hard i try.

Twilight Zone time here (cue spooky music) - someone showed me a load on internet twaddle yesterday about 'strange noises being heard all over the world' and there were weirdy videos of creepy sounds etc. I have put my phone on today to receive a 3 minute message from an unknown sender - i have only listened to the first 30 seconds but it sounded just like the creepy sound. Aaaaaargh!!!!!! Shock Duh duh DUHHHHHHHHHHH

On the other hand i imagine it was some drunk who dialled my number by accident and then put the phone in his pocket. Hmm Made me think for a bit though Grin

Sometimesiwonder · 21/01/2012 10:47

Jet engineer! I bet you need maths for that. Also oncology - that's VERY mathsy.

KurriKurri · 21/01/2012 11:18

Hello all, hope a good w/e is being had by all.

topsy -Sad - that really sucks, I know they do recons. here for people with secondaries because I went to a talk the other night which touched on it. The plastic surgeon said they would offer implants because thats the quickest and least recovery time, and she said they do it because it improves quality of life. So maybe there is an argument for you on those grounds. Whatever, I think it was a bit useless of them to be so unforthcoming at your appointment.
Waiting list for

marmite - happy birthday to little marmite - what's that A A Milne poem? - 'Now I am six I'm as clever as clever, I think I'll stay six now for ever and ever.' Grin - hope he has a lovely day.

Hope DH's eye is sorted soon amber.

Enjoy Hampton Court Sometimes - hope it stays fine for you - I'm sure DD will enjoy it, - years since I went but I remember being pretty impressed.

All this maths talk has made my brain explode ,, I went to pour posh party last night, DH is a scientist and most of the guest were too. So I had to listen to a lot of technical talk - was quite pleased when the disco started up and I could throw some shapes - more my forte Grin

I have 'the cold' so am basically snuffling around feeling weedy. Grin

waving to all.

Sometimesiwonder · 21/01/2012 11:29

I would love to have joined you throwing shapes, KK. Some of my shapes aren't that attractive but i sure enjoy myself Grin What did you wear, in the end?

Hope the cold is fleeting - mine isn't. It's still here, making me eat Crunchies....

KurriKurri · 21/01/2012 11:39

I wore my maxi dress (the one I wore to the wedding) and a purple shrug/cardi, and silvery shoes. There was a small hard core of us shape throwers, - so you'd have fitted right in Grin - there was a lot of eighties music, so DH and I could get down and do our funky thang.
