Glad to see you are ok ned , time for some serious rest now .

Camel , what does this mean now ? Benign is always a fantastic word to hear !

I'm off to the Surgeon this morning . Wish me luck !

MAS I would definitely put the cheese in a ceramic dish next time ! Bet it still tasted yummy though ? Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/01/2012 08:15

ceramic dish and not so long in the oven I think !
Lots of good luck today topsy

Feel like I've missed out on loads!

Am achy today, but boob is slightly less alarmingly blue this morning and looks a bit more "settled", iyswim. Slept OK once found comfy position. Loving parents going home this morning after taking DS to school, so peaceful day on the sofa planned. New Harry potter DVD awaits, and dark choc kitkat that my dad brought me!

Does anyone think that I'll not have to have chemo if nodes clear? Or will they still do it cos I'm relatively young (36) to cover all bases?

camel benign GOOD word! What next?! Is that you clear then? Sorry if I've missed on earlier update. . .

kurri bubonic plague can be nasty. . . Best avoided and warded off by fbs.

Am very jealous of your Camembert MAS sounds delicious! Although DH is making my favourite for supper tonight- Parma ham and mushroom lasagne- yum! Smile and it's his birthday too so bit of a gentle celebration tonight, methinks.

topsy how you bearing up on those horse pills? You back to docs today, I think? Fingers crossed your sore bits are on the mend. . .

eight, marmite, sometimes , jchocchip all OK?

Will have a proper read of thread this morning and catch up on everything!

Wishing everyone a happy Friday and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my lovely DH x

topsyturner · 20/01/2012 09:06

Well that's my day started off with a giggle thanks to Ned and her blue boob Grin
Happy birthday to Mr Ned .

I can't believe the difference in my skin from Monday . It's almost completely dried up . Still sore , but much easier to cope with now I have dry skin I can peel off ! (surely I can't be the only weirdo who looooves peeling skin off ?)

Right , off to get scrubbed and dressed . Then off to beg the Surgeon for a new boob !

Have a great Friday people .

jchocchip · 20/01/2012 09:13

ned, whether or not the do chemo depends on a lot of things like size of lump, if it is grade 3, if it has gone to the nodes, oestrogen receptor status, and age. I guess you will find out soon once the full path results are back. Enjoy your peaceful day on the sofa, and happy birthday mrned.

topsy, hope you have a positive chat with the surgeon.

just made a Brew here, or rather dh did! Bit of cleaning, shopping and swim planned today and more bread making :)

marmitesandwiches · 20/01/2012 09:51

Morning all! Jane I'll have a Brew if there's any left in the pot

ned so lovely to see you back all bright + perky! Great that your nodes were clear. Hope you have a lovely relaxing day.

topsy glad you're feeling better. I love a good skin peel. The only upside of getting horribly sunburnt as a child I. The 1970s was being able to peel off entire limbs in one go. Takes great skill! Hope you chat goes well today

kk hope lurgy hasn't developed.

mas am v envious of hot cheese, though you have now given me yearnings for fondue, raclette and skiing, which I don't think are current on the cards.

camel benign sounds fantastic!! Think it is my new favourite word in fact. Hope that's it now for you??

All well with me + new bionic boob. Consultant did take the drain out on Wed so am now free. Woo-hoo!! Still a bit sore but healing well. Waiting for oncology appointment for chemo (at which point will be chopping long hair + asking questions re cold caps!).

Hope haven't left anyone out .

Btw has anyone had anything to do with the Haven centres? Thinking might wander up to London one at some point. Also liking the canceractive website if anyone else has come across it (nutrition advice, recent research etc).

xx

Driftwood999 · 20/01/2012 10:40

Glad to hear you're back Ned, great news re the clear nodes. Hope the pain's not too bad. Beware the constipating sided effects of codeine and other pain killers. I borrowed a pointy stick from Topsy after my op Grin
Update from me.
DX October 2011 - grade 2 invasive lobular carcinoma, ER 100% positive.
Surgery November - Wle and node biopsy, three removed and were clear.
Tamoxifen for 2 years "then something else"
Rads 3 Jan - 31 Jan.
To anyone new here, hope you have been told that all your prescriptions are free. To apply, obtain form FP92A from GP surgery. Best wishes to all.

NedSchneebly · 20/01/2012 10:58

Hey Driftwood thanks for the tip. Pain OK, but have got rather pins and needley fingers on operated side. Is that normal? Anyone else had that?

Had dark choc kitkat- very nice indeed. . . Smile

Somewhat unecessary update for topsy, but don't want to feel left out! Smile diagnosed invasive ductal carcinoma grade 2-3 (I think) 5th January, surgery Wednesday, 3 nodes removed, all clear. Chemo and rads on the cards, probably tamoxifen too, as I think the surgeon said I was oestrogen positive(?).

Waves to everyone- good to be back with you all, with my lovely blue boob!

Sometimesiwonder · 20/01/2012 11:07

Ned - -pins and needly fingers is quite normal and should pass quite soon. It's just because they have been digging about a bit in your armpit.

OneinEight, I am glad you are finding the chemo do-able. I did, too. Never want to do it again, but not as bad as I had feared nonetheless.

Avoid the lurgy KK - hooray for yummy cheese MAS, and Camel - I LURVE THE WORD BENIGN. YIPPEE!!!! FOR BENIGN.

Love to everyone - dashing through because the school has a random inset day today (WTF????) and dd is in meltdown because she doesn't understand fractions and believes it will scupper her chances of being a scientist. She is 8 Hmm

So no laid back day off for us, I am having to rescue her future career......Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/01/2012 11:16

just popping in to wave to everyone- must get to post office and buy an after exam treat for the boy...love to all and thinking of topsy

OP posts:
NedSchneebly · 20/01/2012 11:24

Actually I don't think I'm grade 2-3, I may have made that up. . . Not sure what the gradings are, tbh. . . Blush surgeon said 2-3 about something, but I think that may be speed of growing????? I'm crap, aren't I!

Good luck with the fractions sometimes! Thanks for reassurance about pins and needles. . .

smee · 20/01/2012 11:32

Ned do the arm exercises - seriously important to keeping mobility going. You can munch kitkat as you do them though. Grin

Eight, good to hear the hair's still firmly on your head. Long may it last. Smile

Woo-hoo for Marmite being drain free!! Smile I got as far as calling a Haven, but never got to one. I'd say go for it asap, as once you're in chemo everything's more of an effort. Everyone I know who's been to one says they're fantastic. Haven't heard of that website, I will trundle over and have a look.

Camel, where are you?? Clear nodes sounds mighty good. Hope that's it for you, but am imagining we're maybe a bit premature on that.

MAS, you should get Figgy's oven cleaners round. I hear they're v.good. Grin

Jane, am Envy at the bread making. I wouldn't know where to start.

Sometimes, your DD sounds so like my DS it's spooky. Walking to school he told me he only needs to get 'measuring' right out of his spelling words, as that's the only one he'll need to be a Scientist. Grin

Fingers crossed for Topsy getting a choice of breasts. Grin

Kurri, hope you're not feeling too wiped out. I am waiting for a cold to strike, but so far have avoided all.

Getting nothing done today, but then it's Friday. Maybe a dark KitKat - would make me more productive.. Waving to all though. Here's to a happy weekend. Smile

topsyturner · 20/01/2012 12:01

Feeling a little blue .
The surgeon , she says no Sad
She has however put me on a waiting list for a reduction on the other side .

NedSchneebly · 20/01/2012 12:04

Will do, smee thanks for the advice Smile hope all good with you?

BackforGood · 20/01/2012 12:43

sometimes - tell dd that dh was never that keen on maths at school (he'd say not that good) and he's been earning his living as a Scientist for a good few years now. smee dh isn't that good a speller, either Grin
I've been moving things out of our bdroom this morning (being decorated next week) and some stuff hasn't been moved since we moved in here over 8 years ago. The dust !!!! Blush

Driftwood999 · 20/01/2012 13:12

Big hug Topsy, sorry it wasn't what you wanted to hear.

smee · 20/01/2012 13:15

Ah Topsy, why? I suppose I know the answer, but that's horrid to get you there to say that. Huge hugs from me xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/01/2012 13:26

oh topsy Sad maybe they just want things to settle down a bit ?
smee I had the foresight to put the box on a baking tray !
I do think that junior smee and junior sometimes are remarkably similar

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 20/01/2012 13:37

'Measuring' is quite some spelling for a 7 year old, future scientist or no! Shock

Backforgood - i will indeed tell dd that, it is good to know! We have done all the exercises we can find on the 'net and now i am £9 lighter of pocket because we have bought some books Hmm

Topsy Sad I am sorry. The reduction on the other side will at least make you feel a bit more symmetrical Seems v cruel to get you in to say "no' though

As for the dust behind backforgood's furniture - a clean house is a sign of a boring life.......

Ned - the grade refers to how fast it is growing in a malignant sort of way, the stage relates to the size and likelihood of spread elsewehere (or summat)

KK - I hope the lurgy is still at bay.

smee · 20/01/2012 13:51

Ned, think Sometimes is right. I was Grade 3 and Stage 3 and they threw everything at it to give me best chance.

MAS, excellent foresight. Grin

Sometimes, DS can spell 'measuring' but has forgotten things like 'what'.. I'm with you on the clean house thing. Dust balls here as we've no stair carpet. I've forgotten where I've put the vacuum cleaner and our house is not very big. Blush

jchocchip · 20/01/2012 14:00

Oh Topsy, that's not the news we wanted to hear. Good that your skin is healing from rads. I expect it will take a few days for you to decide how you feel about a reduction.

sometimes I will have to remember the clean house = sign of boring life. My house is pretty filthy in places, does that mean my life isn't boring?

Sometimesiwonder · 20/01/2012 14:11

Well it definitely stands a better chance, Jane! Honestly, any job that has to be done again every few days isn't worth doing.

My house is pretty squalid in places although I have been chucking stuff out and cleaning a bit more than normal just recently - but there's a long way to go before I'd count it as 'clean'. The basics for me are clean beds, clothes, towels, bathroom and kitchen, and I do these. The rest gets a tickle once in a while. Dd's friend has just come round: she is from a very perfect home. I have placed a bet with dh on how long it will be before she tells me something is dusty (it isn't usually long)

SparkleRainbow · 20/01/2012 14:12

Jchoc that is my mantra these days....my house is filthy but I have an interesting life.....would that is was true Wink

Oh Topsy, not what you wanted to hear, but good news about the way your skin is recovering. I too am a secret skin peeler (tmi?), strangely satisfying and can't abide flakey skin Wink

smee have you got your budding scientist on finding an exo planet web site yet, my ds is obsessed by it....was advertised by bbc stargazing live shows, and ds obsessed by those too.....he is so going to be an astrophysicist.

Sometimesiwonder · 20/01/2012 14:12

Topsy - maybe they just think your body has been through enough recently? In which case, they may be right....

jchocchip · 20/01/2012 14:21

I think the problem is the combination of wet weather and a cat with his own cat flap. He comes in soggy and dries his feet on the carpet and makes footprints all over the window cills...
