Good news Jane Smile

Ooh KK, call me an old softy but your Dad's lovely comment made me quite emotional.

it will be such a source of strength that her memories are all good - regrets have a habit of eating away at you for a while.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2011 11:59

yes kk that made my eyes prickle- how lucky to have such a brilliant relationship.
jane glad your skin is better - am sure radox bath will be fine- I was so pleased to return to lovely smelling bath and shower things after rads, and proper soap !

Jane. sorry, missed the question about smellies. I also think it should be fine though I'd keep it quite dilute at first. And keep up with the aqueous

KurriKurri · 06/12/2011 12:18

I'm off into town in a moment to get a few bits and bobs for Christmas presents , and DH has won a £65 amazon voucher so I'll do most of my shopping online.

Mainly I need to return my very overdue library books, and apologise to my hairdresser - I had an appointment while I was away, which naturally I completely forgot about.

I think I'll take it quietly though - I don't want a lot of hassle and fuss this year.

jane - I'm glad your skin is healing, - I think a radox bath will be fine Smile (certainly sounds good to me).

My bowls of hyacinths I potted up, have gone and flowered while I was away, and now they are finished - the buggers - I shall get some more, that'll show them. Grin

cakesandale · 06/12/2011 12:50

God my hyacinths are only just above the surface. And I still haven't potted my mini daffs - I fear that may be too late Sad

topsytinselturner · 06/12/2011 13:26

Afternoon All

I am baaaaaaaack ..
1st treatment done and dusted . Wasn't bad , took an hour . Had a little difficulty lining me up and getting my mould to fit properly .

Anyhow , only complaint is that they have made all my future appointments for 8.30am .
The earliest I can get DD to school is 8am (breakfast club) . Then it's a 15 minute walk to the bus stop , followed by a 20 minute bus ride , followed by another 15 minute walk to the hospital .
You do the math !

The hospital won't let me change the times either . They say they are running at over capacity , and there are no other appointments that I can have .

DH is speaking to his bosses to see if he can start work an hour late every day , so he can drop me in on his way to work . But I can't see them being very happy about it .

Nothing is ever straight forward is it ?

cakesandale · 06/12/2011 13:45

Topsy - Bugger and arse Angry

Sorry to everyone else

jchocchip · 06/12/2011 13:50

Aargh at the 8.30 appointments Topsy. Hope it gets sorted. I'm sure they won't refuse to treat you if youu turn up a little late... Argh at the hyacinths too. I've got some at Mum's but the bulb fibre has disappeared as have the pots...

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2011 13:53

gah - that's a pain topsy
kk - dh wins again ! he is amazing.

OP posts:
topsytinselturner · 06/12/2011 15:10

Aaw kk , that was a lovely thing your Dad said ! Wish my DH was that romantic .

How's your bum today mas ? You do realise that we are going to nag and nag and nag you till you get it looked at don't you ?

My DHs employers are so lovely ! They straight away told him to take what time he needs to get me to hospital for rads , they have been so accomadating . I wish there was a "good employers" place I could report them to . Instead of naming and shaming .
I need some ideas of what to get 2 fairly straight laced middle aged men for a christmas presant ? (Am still talking about DHs bosses here) They deserve something nice after all they have done for us this year .

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2011 15:43

something nice to drink ? how lovely of them (dh's bosses I mean) and that will make things a bit easier for you and getting to rads on time.
Thank you for asking after my bum Xmas Grin !!
I guess you all might have noticed the thread about the Cancer Research campaign thing-about not letting cancer beat you- have never seen a thread where everyone is in agreement.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2011 15:46

roasted chestnuts and hot choc anyone ? am going to make some as a treat for ds after choir rehearsals (and hour and a half after school and he's had a lunchtime practice for the other choir )

OP posts:
topsytinselturner · 06/12/2011 16:00

Yes please to the hot choc and roasted chestnuts , yum !

Yes I did see that Cancer Research post .
It's one of the main things about cancer that bothers me .
I am not being "brave" , I am not "battleing" .
I am getting on with it .
And yes it is damn insulting to think that if this bastard beats me , someone will say "she lost her battle"
I will have "lost" nothing !!!

Rant over Grin

cakesandale · 06/12/2011 16:18

Agreement from me, too!

Seeingstars is in hospital having her intensive chemo - not sure if she said so on here, if she did I missed it, but she has another thread going about hair loss Sad

smee · 06/12/2011 16:24

Kurri, what your dad said has made me get all misty eyed too. How lovely. Sad Good to hear your mum's sort of okay. What's she going to do for Christmas? I'd bet it will be an odd one for all of you.

Topsy, hooray for good employers and for 1 done. Smile

MAS you do know how to treat your DS. Mine usually gets a slice of bread and butter and an apple. Grin

SR I think the weather will be okay tomorrow, so will keep fingers crossed for DS. I will think of you nervously pacing outside.. Smile

Jane hope your bath is extraordinarily lovely. I so looked forward to my first one after rads. Smile

I have been out for a work lunch. Ate at a lovely little Udon (noodles) restaurant. mmm.. Got a friend staying tonight, so I've just raided M&S.

Speaking of which, one of DS's friends rushed up to me this morning and stuffed a card for DS into my hand. It was an M&S one with a gift card inside. I was a bit horrified, as we don't do Christmas presents, but the mum I was walking with said she reckoned it was empty. I checked at the checkout and she was right. Grin

smee · 06/12/2011 16:32

Poor SeeingStars. I will head over when I get a minute and say hello.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2011 16:39

stars if you are lurking am sending much love & thinking of you x
smee arf at empty M&S gift card Xmas Grin

Giving ds nice treats just means that I can have hot choc and chestnuts too ! mind you,he is always starvingly hungry.

topsytinselturner · 06/12/2011 17:35

I was just thinking about stars , if you are lurking hope you are doing well !
I will pop over and find her thread now .

amberlight · 06/12/2011 17:47

Topsy, grr about them and the appointments.

Stars, keeping you in thoughts

Just added my two-penneth to the thread about the 'battle' against cancer. As if we don't have enough to cope with already. Sod battling. We need all the relaxation and enjoyment and togetherness we can muster, not some ruddy war.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 06/12/2011 17:58

I had my appointment today, mammogram, ultrasound and core biopsy ( the gun one!) . They think it is left over infection from the mastitis i had in October and have been prescribed a high dose of Augmentin and am to return next week.
They did find a node that looked, i think they said thickened on the ultrasound,
but she said she wouldn't take the sample from it today and would see what the results were from the breast sample. Dh thinks this is good, but i am now worried sick because of the node.

Also forgot to ask , so hoping someone can advice, how long do i keep the dressing on and when can i shower.

jchocchip · 06/12/2011 18:38

Yay for MrTopsy's lovely bosses. I'm not being brave either Topsy.

Bath was lovely, even tho' ran out of hot water...

Lunch sounds nice smee.

went to waitrose on the bus 'cos no bike. Hope the free book is worth the tortourous journey! Stocked up on mini meals (chicken and fish) and some organic lamb steaks for tea. I must have gone past every other brand of supermarket on the way there/back! Even changed buses in acocks green!

jchocchip · 06/12/2011 18:40

nk glad that is over. It does sound like they think it is an infection, try not to worry too much and lots of treats while you wait for your results.

KurriKurri · 06/12/2011 19:16

hooray for first one out of the way topsy - but grr about early appointments - good on your DH's bosses though, and one advantage of early starts is that you can get on with stuff for the rest of the day without having to work round appointments.

NK - hello Smile - it's natural to feel worried, but the fact that they think it is infection and are treating it is good. I think the ladies who have had biopsies more recently than me will be better advising you over showering etc. - my memory is a bit rubbish on these things.

Smee Grin at empty gift card, that's brilliant.
I invited mum to come to us for Christmas, - and said we would collect her and take her back home. So she's thinking about it, but I think she might opt for a quiet Christmas - without a lot of travelling, so we'll see. She was just very exhausted while I was down - a combination of all the emotion and the to and froing to the hospital I think.

OK just to make you all very Envy - after winning the amazon voucher this morning, this afternoon DH found out he has won an ipod nano Grin - at this rate we'll have Christmas sorted by the end of the week!

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/12/2011 20:05

NK I think you will be fine bathing/showering tomorrow after biopsy. I left the dressing on and wore my bra to bed to keep pressure on it and then took it off in the morning to have a bath- all was fine and dandy. It sounds as thought it all could well be the remains of infection and the node might be just up because of it-fingers crossed -of course am sure you will fret until you know for sure.
kk hooray for dh and his amazing winning abilities Xmas Grin
Ginger wine time now,am knackered-have painted a lot of things today !

OP posts:
smee · 06/12/2011 20:07

Ooh Kurri, your DH's on a bit of a winning streak. About time you had something to smile at in your house. Smile

NK, it's an age since I had a biopsy, but i think you need to wait a few days for the wound to heal. I've found through treatment sitting in a shallow bath is a good way to wash. You can lean forward and do your top half with a sponge. Brilliant that it's looking like an infection. Not that anyone wants an infection, but it's so much better than cancer. Grin

MAS, my DS is always starving too. I dread to think what he'll put away when he's as old as your DS. Shock

Wires crossed somehow, so my friend's staying tomorrow night instead. Quite good in a way as I could do with a bit of a sofa evening. Smile
