I'm so sorry amber, loving thoughts to you and all her family.

Absent friends Wine

ILGC, am so very, very happy and excited to hear about your DD. Made me nearly cry and I don't even know her. What totally brilliant news. Smile Smile

But Amber, that's very sad about your friend. I'm guessing she must have had serious secondaries to go so quickly. Poor woman. I shall raise a glass to her in a bit. Bloody cancer. Sad

Topsy, that dress is gorgeous. Hope you found perfect tights to match. DD will look so grown up. Smile

Figgy, hmm, I reckon hip on the mend and breaking up might not be a coincidence, so medicinal Wine sounds deserved. Glad those numptie men have sorted themselves out too. Smile

Waving to SR, though Shock at the 2 Christmas Cakes and the on-line order. We've only just put the tree up and I haven't even bought the ingredients for the cake.. Blush

Kurri, hope you're out and into hugs tomorrow. Sounds like you need them. It must be very hard now the funeral's over to find some peace with your thoughts. Did you manage to persuade your mother to come and stay?

MAS, I have no advice on teenage boys. Does sound like the school are starting to do their best though, so maybe they'll carry him through. I think you'll need to test the fbs for your mother. Essential to make sure they're the right ones. Grin

Jane, I skim read the thread and through you'd said you'd have a 'row with an orange'. Grin

Been feeling quite festive for the first time. DS and DH went to fetch a tree this morning, so we've been hanging our eccentric and tatty decorations, which I love. Best are some beautiful and mostly broken tree decorations from Krakow, where DH and I spent our last Christmas before DS was born. We've all got our favourites. DS adores a Polar Bear who's lost a paw. Mine's a cranky looking parrot with a Christmas Hat on. He looks so wonderfully hacked off, it always makes me laugh. Grin

Wishing you all a warm and cosy Saturday night. Better go and cook. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2011 22:57

very sad news about your friend amber -p articularly upsetting for you as you have had the same treatment and as you said on fb,unexpected. This time of year makes it even more sad.
smee love the sound of your polish ornaments. Ours are a mixture of things, some wooden things, salt dough cookies decorated at school fair years ago by ds and my dad and mum, a wooden pig given to me by a friend who we've lost touch with (very sorry about that) and some rather crazed battery operated lights.
I have baked spicy biscuits and cranberry and chocolate cookies.

Evening everyone, not been feeling too good over last few days so not visited thread recently. Its such a busy thread with loads going on... so very sorry to hear of your friend Amber, she & her family will be in my prayers tonight. ILGC, what absolutely fantastic, fantastic news.
I had my post surgery appointment on Thursday, grade 2, no lymph involvemnt and clear margins, recommendation is Tamoxifen for 5 years, next review in 12 months, very good news in the circumstances.
Since my appointment I have developed a deep pain in the opposite armpit to my surgery - anyone else have anything similar? it is actually more painful than my surgery side. Taking paracetemol and going to see how it goes tomorrow, think I will ring BC nurse Monday.
Hope everyone has a peaceful, enjoyable Sunday and thinking of all those at the many different stages of treatment, hope things are going well, thank you so much for keeping this thread alive with your updates, as a 'newbie' I can tell you it helps a great deal. Night x

jchocchip · 18/12/2011 07:26

Morning all

Those sound like the best sort of ornaments, smee, glad you are feeling festive Xmas Smile

Baking sounds scrummy, mas.

Summat - Yipee for clear margins and clear nodes. That is really good news. Xmas Grin Anoying about the othe pain, sorry I can't help you there but I'm sure your bc nurse will have a suggestion.

I still haven't done enough cleaning but did go out with dd2 Christmas shopping and ordered the converse for her sister and bought various other pressies including a winter coat I've told dh he is giving to me.... Xmas Smile

Time for Brew and toast I think. then a swim :)

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/12/2011 09:33

summat that is really excellent news - hooray ! The pain is probably damage from the lymph surgery as they do need to rootled about a bit to grab the nodes they need - as I recall the underarm hurt more than the actual breast surgery but do ask bcn for reassurance.
Had anxiety dream last night- usual things but now incorporating ds's teachers/exams - gah !

Figgyroll · 18/12/2011 11:35

Morning all. Anyone fancy a Brew?

Great news summat. Not sure why your opposite armpit should be hurting so much but would definitely ring the nurse tomorrow.

Jane well done on the Christmas shopping yesterday. Enjoy your swim.

MAS, your baking sounds delish. Sorry about the anxiety dream. Hopefully it was a one off.

Smee your decorations sound lovely. They will become heirlooms, I'm sure. I've got a real mix too. DS2 and I made salt dough ones years ago, painted and glittered them and he loves them coming out every year. I made some felt ones too - heart shapes and round ones - and stitched them with an icicle pattern. They cost a small fortune in the shops and (show off emoticon here) mine look just as nice.

Having a quiet Sunday in. I shall bake a Victoria sponge later, read some more of my Jojo Moyes book and just generally relax.

KurriKurri · 18/12/2011 11:51

That is good news summat. Get the pain checked by BCN - just to set your mind at rest, - I know I had a lot of pain on the opposite side to my surgery, - it turned out to be nothing at all but I felt better having the nurse tell me that Smile - remember they really yank both your arms about and over your head when they operate, - so its very common to have aches and pains after major surgery.

Am Envy of your decs Smee. - Ours are basically a shambles, - things that have been randomly bought and made each year - nothing matches, there is no 'colour scheme', but we are going to have a very tiny tree this year, so we'll just put a few of them on it.

Well done on your swimming jane, you energetic woman!

Sorry about the dreams MAS, - I hate those, - you wake up feeling really tired after them. I've been having lots of horrid dreams since dad died, but my sister has as well, so we are presuming that its a normal part of the way your brain processes things.

Scruffy the dog has had her Christmas haircut this morning, and a bath - so she isn't really speaking to me. She did run up to greet DD (who took no part in the torture) and gave me a sort of bitter 'look' over her shoulder as DD fussed her Grin

KurriKurri · 18/12/2011 11:55

hello Figgy - I missed your post. - Quiet Sunday in sounds good. has DS2's college broken up for the holidays yet?, and your DS1 teaches doesn't he - has he finished? - my sister's school is finishing at the end of next week, which seems late, - luckily she only teaches one day now

We have some decs. the children made when they were very small which are basically just lumps of painted salt dough on the end of strings - but they still come out each year Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/12/2011 12:40

duh summat I didn't read it was the opposite side- foolish of me...yes,def. ask bcn to set your mind at rest- maybe you've been over compensating with the 'good' arm ?

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 18/12/2011 12:43

kk dogs do that don't they- our dog Biddy always remembered a wrong doing- she loathed my cousin for a misdemenour and always nipped him.
I think the anxiety dreams are a way of processing stuff too - so kind of healthy- they are very frequent and as you say exhausting (there's always a lot of walking involved in mine)
Have just eaten a cranberry and choc cookie- I think they can be considered health food as they contain fruit and oats

Amber I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I will light a candle for her later. Big hugs to you.

Sorry I have been awol again, am having a mad time here, but dc only have two more days at school, so hopefully all will calm down when they are home, and I can keep a closer eye on ds in particular. Must just dash off and help plumb in my FIL dishwasher which I forced him to buy online and was delivered earlier. No selfish motive honestly, not at all because I didn't fancy washing up in both his and my house over christmas at all! Going to sort out his washing machine when I am there too, so he independent for that as well. Poor dh he thought he was having a quiet day, but I keep shoving plumbing attachments in his hands and telling him to take that too.! Grin

SparkleRainbow · 18/12/2011 14:00

Summat - yeah, congratulations for the good news. Smile

jchocchip · 18/12/2011 14:34

Hope it is straigtforward to plumb in the dishwasher, sparkles. Just been chopping up some wood for kindling with an axe, find it helps Xmas Grin

SparkleRainbow · 18/12/2011 15:21

Kindling chopping....known to be therapeutic....although have regularly hit my own hand with thankfully fairly blunt hatchet!!!! Confused so be careful. Dishwasher in, have left dh to sort out washing machine....he is good.

sandripples · 18/12/2011 15:53

Suammat - that's great - good news for Christmas.

Amber - just want to add my sympathy too, about your friend. As you may know I also lost a friend to BC a few months ago and it was terribly sad.

But lets focus on the good news people have had recently, if we can, while remembering others who have been less fortunate.

Don't be too impressed about my two cakes etc. Only got tree put up yesterday and haven't the energy to decorate the house all in one w/e so will spread it out over the evenings of this week. Just wish I didn't have to work.....

smee · 18/12/2011 17:24

Summat that's excellent news. Huge yeay for you!! Does that mean no Rads? Sounds like it. Smile I have no idea on the ache, but MAS is probably right. I still feel achey under both arms from my mastectomy and that was 2 months ago now. BCN said it's normal, so I've decided not to worry. Definitely call the BCN though. Last thing you need now is some kind of infection over Christmas.

Sparkle, washing machines of every type sounds like the way to go. You have enough on without someone else's mess to clear.

Amber, hope you're okay today. So sad to have lost your friend and a huge jolt about the reality of this bloody disease too.

Jane, am at your fire. I do miss having a real one. Radiators just aren't the same.

SR, ha! I feel a bit better now, as we still have no cake but we are decorated.

Busy weird day here, as I spent this morning at A&E getting a burn checked out. I did it last Tuesday and it's still weeping. Poor DH has gone from laissez faire to oh-my-god since BC diagnosis, so he forced me into the car and drove me to hospital. It is nasty, but I knew it wasn't infected. Sweet of him to cluck over me though. They gave me a proper seaweed dressing, so it should heal faster now. Just back from Brick Lane market. A bit of festive shopping and Beigels warm from the over.. mmmm....

jchocchip · 18/12/2011 18:45

I was holding the blocks up with a stick so my hands were well away after the first few hits and visions of a trip to a+e... Getting annoyed with dh generally and Christmas is a difficult time of year, I do need to chill out a bit!

Been to see Aunty this afternoon - she was eating her tea. They had too many mini chocolate eclairs so they offered me one, yum.

amberlight · 18/12/2011 19:19

Sand, ooops Blush should I not have mentioned it? Genuine question, since I'm autistic and quite capable of putting my foot in things on a regular basis (sometimes literally, too).

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/12/2011 20:05

ouch about burn smee
amber am sure you haven't put any feet in anything
Have wrapped presents today, but run out of labels. It feels so weird not doing any work-I sat at my desk thinking I should be drawing, but there's so much else to do/sort really.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/12/2011 07:26

and now it's morning again !
lots of luck amber with your booster doses - am surer you'll sail through.
Gah- another anxiety dream - it certainly is back to school for me.
