I am in total agony

Yesterday I woke up with pain in my right arm at the top. Saw a pharmacist to ask about pain relief and she felt I had pulled a muscle. Went to bed last night with it covered in deep heat and still in pain and I couldn't lie on it. This morning it is fine but the whole of my left arm round to my breast and back is absolute agony and there is no way I can lift anything with it. Could it be my FM or something else? I am hoping to see an osteopath on Tuesday but I feel like crying it hurts so much. I have so much to do today, I can't be out of action.

Did you ring NHS Direct or do the website thing. I think as soon as breathing is mentioned on the website it would say 999. Could you ring them? Or just ring 999 and get some help?

TheOriginalFAB · 13/11/2011 20:42

The OOH doc was concerned about it being a heart attack but didn't think I was having one. I did on line nhs direct and it said 999. DO i go to bed, ring ooh or nhs dirrect? Sorry for being thick.

no no no. If you are worried that going to A&E or calling 999 would be 'akward' and going to bed will make it all go away well, imagine how even more akward it would be to have to do that in the middle of the night.

NHS direct have said call 999 so you have official 'you aren't a hypocondriac' status!

The NHS is a wonderful institution, we're all proud of it blah de blah (I do say that with no irony, I am proud of it), but it has indoctrinated all of us to be 'no trouble'!!!!

What would you be advising if your friend or your dh was going through the same as you???

ginmakesitallok · 13/11/2011 20:44

I'd call oohs again -they'll have all your history. If you call NhS direct they'll probably just tell you to contact oohs

orienteerer · 13/11/2011 20:45

I may be entirely wrong but if it was me I'd have a nice hot bath, go to bed an sleep on it.

justonemorethread · 13/11/2011 20:45

oops, cross posted there. I meant no no no about going to bed. Don't just go to bed, do something.

tink123 · 13/11/2011 20:47

I am a nurse, and I have seen these symptoms before... It was a DVT leading to a PE. Seek medical advice...

justonemorethread · 13/11/2011 20:48

Have you been on the 'what are you avoiding doing tonight by being on mumsnet thread?'
Ehr, I'm avoiding getting proper medical attention.
This has got to be the worst bit of reality avoiding mumsnetting I've ever seen....
Maybe we should all be advising you to get off mumsnet as well as getting checked out!!!
But of course now we all need to know that you're ok so we are all literally hanging by your thread.

ballstoit · 13/11/2011 20:49

SparklingBrook OOH doc sent an ambulance when I rang...my pulse was 160 when sitting down though!

Conversation went 'I'm not sure if I need to ring but my Dad's blood pressure monitor says my heart rate is one hundred and sixty and I can feel my heart racing'

OOH Doc 'Did you say 116'

Me 'No, 160'

OOH Doc 'Okay, are you at home alone'

Me 'No, my 3 under 5 year old DC are here with me'

OOH Doc 'I'm calling an ambulance for you now, please can you talk to my colleague while I do that, she'll need some details of another adult who can come to care for your DC'

Me 'Erm, okay, so I can't wait to see my GP tomorrow'

OOH Doc 'No.......'

Sorry for the thread derail...FAB 80 is not a problem on it's own. But honestly, ring 999...have done a few times for asthmatic DSS on advice of OOH Doc. The paramedics have always been lovely, and have always needed to come as he's been admitted each time.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2011 20:49

Agree with tink. When I rang 999 for hubby a paramedic came and decided whether an ambulance was necessary.

TheOriginalFAB · 13/11/2011 20:50

I am going to ring the OOH doctors now.

ballstoit · 13/11/2011 20:55

FAB, they will tell you 999 if you say you're having breathing difficulties...just ring 999. Or put your DH on thread so we can tell him to Grin

tink123 · 13/11/2011 20:56

9...........9............9

perfumedlife · 13/11/2011 20:57

I really hope they send a doctor out to you FAB. Don't like the sound of breathing problems although your heart rate is reassuringly normal. Tramadol made my breathing laboured and i had to stop taking it, it is very strong, maybe it's that.

TheOriginalFAB · 13/11/2011 20:58

Someone ringing me back in a minute.

What do I need to pack if I have to go to hospital and htf do I get there as dh won't let me drive.

TheOriginalFAB · 13/11/2011 20:59

sorry for being annoying

I am scared to ring 999. It is a big deal but I have rung the ooh who saw me a few hours ago and will do whatever they say.

OP posts:
tink123 · 13/11/2011 20:59

an ambulance

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2011 21:01

You will go by ambulance. Just take yourself. Nothing else matters.

justonemorethread · 13/11/2011 21:02

Call 999. You are worth it you know! People have been known to call 999 for indigestion (they thought it was heart attack) on Christmas day you know.

ballstoit · 13/11/2011 21:03

Make sure you have cash, phone charger and phone, glasses/contact lenses if you need them and a clean pair of knickers. Get DH to put them in the bag while you ring

999

justonemorethread · 13/11/2011 21:03

Stop apologising.
999 exists for normal people like you and us with no medical training. That's who it exists for.

ballstoit · 13/11/2011 21:04

Please FAB...I'd have died if I'd not rung OOH and they hadn't insisted. I'd rather look silly every day for the rest of my long life than risk it.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2011 21:13
tink123 · 13/11/2011 21:14

i hope so too...

justonemorethread · 13/11/2011 21:17

Yup, hopefully getting yourself sorted out and finally off mumsnet.... We hope to hear your news soon!
