...here we go again

OP posts:
pinkstarlight · 14/11/2011 10:38

topsy...you amaze me how strong you are such a brave question to ask, i really admire you.

jane...eek a frog thank goodness for your dh.

mas...hope all goes well for your dad today.

dd15 was surprisingly chirpy this morning as she had a late night after going to a gig in birmingham, her friends mum took her and 3 friends.my dd is very petite so luckily for her one of her friends was a guy and put her on his shoulders so she could see.she says thats it male friend is coming to every gig with her from now on.poor guy lol

got ds at home he had a virus last week and hes got a terrible cough didnt sleep that well last night and was sick through coughing first thing this morning.looks like we are destined today to start the lost box set.

cakesandale · 14/11/2011 11:00

Topsy, you have made me examine the back of my desk but I am not brave enough to go behind it. Not until David Attenborough arrives to identify species, anyway.

What a hard question to ask - I am in awe. I hope it will bring a better answer than last time.

ILGC - I am glad your dd is doing as well as possible in the circumstances: and I second that you should go with your friend to the party and ignore people who want to make crass or unkind remarks. There is always someone around who can be relied on to have an ill thought-out opinion: don't let them spoil something that could be a nice experience.

I am still trying to catch up....

cakesandale · 14/11/2011 11:04

By the by, dd, who is usually so well behaved and (frankly) swotty, is having a behaviour blip. She is 8. Yesterday she got in a mood when i told her she needed to check one of her answers in her maths homework, and then, because I wouldn't find the rubber for her so she could change her answer, she said she was going to leave it wrong. And I, in a bid to make her take responsibility for her own work and actions, let her do that. So today, her work is going to be marked wrong and she is going to go into meltdown, I know she is Sad

jchocchip · 14/11/2011 11:29

Cakes, maybe dd won't go into meltdown. One wrong answer is not the end of the world, is it? I know dd2's exam papers are designed so that the questions get progressively harder and they are not expected to get the questions at the end. She is 13 now and 85% is a good mark these days.

cakesandale · 14/11/2011 11:37

I hope not, Jane. But she has an irrational hatred of getting things wrong - it's why she hates maths although she is above average at it. You get told things are wrong, whereas with other subjects, there is less of that.

I fully expect there to be trauma over it, But she still expects me to watch her back and catch all her mistakes, and increasingly now she needs to be more self reliant. It's tough being a kid, really, but we all have to learn a few hard lessons. I shall don my hard hat before I attempt the school run Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/11/2011 11:52

argh- hope dd isn't too cross cakes. Ds was cross with me yesterday because I didn't happen to know from memory his own mobile phone number, which he doesn't know Confused - obviously it's my fault
tsk.
Hope ds feels better soon pink
topsy -I think I'd ask too,if it were me, I am of the opinion that knowledge is power, I can deal with what I know-my mind goes mad with 'what ifs' and things I conjure up in my head if I don't know.
All well with dad's eye- he was in first and it took only about 15 mins to make the adjustment- we had a cappuccino and a croissant afterwards in the hospital's Costa. He goes on Wednesday to see the skin people-so hope all will be ok- he seems fine about it.

OP posts:
smee · 14/11/2011 11:58

Ooh Topsy, you are brave and that's just about the behind the desk stuff. Madeira cake sounds essential. Hope speedy broadband's up and running soon. Smile

MAS, hope your dad's okay today. On the face thing, my father had similar - looked terrifying as it sprang up quickly and was very obviously a problem, but was easily removed and he was told in older people not nearly as scary as in younger as they're much slower growing/ don't take hold as quickly. Hope that's true for him too.

Cakes, your DD is streaks ahead of little slacker. If I try and correct things, he says it doesn't matter if he gets a few things wrong as it'll give his teacher something to write on his book. Shock

Just cheered up a grey wet day, but nabbing a Roald Dahl Audiobook of 'Matilda' for £1 from my favourite junk shop. Three CD's and it looks brand new. Perfect Stocking filler, so have officially started Christmas shopping now. Grin

SparkleRainbow · 14/11/2011 11:59

Oh poor dd cake, but they have to go through it sometimes don't they. My dd2 is Sad today too, she refused to kiss me goodbye, because I explained to her that her "neck pain" was not quite the same as ds's (completely made up for attention by the way Wink) Very hard for her to understand why when ds is in pain drs keep fussing around him, and with her she gets a pat on the head.

Hope everyone is ok today. I am pretty down, but still plodding on, trying not to think about things too much, think I shall stick my head in the sand today.

SparkleRainbow · 14/11/2011 11:59

Envy of starting xmas shopping smee. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/11/2011 12:08

I have plain madeira sparkle if that's any comfort.

OP posts:
smee · 14/11/2011 12:08

Waving to Sparkle. Was just wondering how you were. Is DS just home for today? Hope so.

about Christmas shopping.

SparkleRainbow · 14/11/2011 12:13

No ds is in school today, he had to be home last thursday and friday (I had to collect him on thursday as pain got too much). I have sent him in today, and am sitting nervously by the phone waiting for a call.

I have a poorly chicken in a box in my kitchen....and a poorly cat in a kennel in the sittingroom...my life is frankly weird.

Haha I have just remembered I have already bought two scooters and two wooden block stamps for dd1 and ds for xmas.....feeling smug too!

SparkleRainbow · 14/11/2011 12:13

waving to smee.

SparkleRainbow · 14/11/2011 12:13

Yes please MAS....!

smee · 14/11/2011 12:20

Ooh Sparkle, you've out-Christmassed me. Grin Good to hear DS is back at school then, though what with the chicken and the cat you've still got your hands full. Confused

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/11/2011 12:43

I will out-Christmas both of you as I have nearly done it all (online !!) even Celeste is getting 2 lovely collars -I cannot resist- one is sparkly glittery silver.Just a calendar to find for my mum and beers for dh and some chocs and wine for various folk - I just panic if I don't gird myself and order.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 14/11/2011 12:43

poor kitten and chicken Sad

OP posts:
cakesandale · 14/11/2011 12:56

Very, very Envy over all this Xmas shopping. I have bought dd a sweater and two annuals and that is it so far.

MAS, I hope your dad really is OK about the skin thing, they do look alarming but I think they can usually be dealt with pretty painlessly. He could do without it though, i am sure.

Smee - I like ds's style. He may not get top marks but an insouciant (sp? too lazy to check) approach to life is a good thing to cultivate. Dd is going through a very uncharacteristic 'Can't be bothered' phase, which is a bit unappealing TBH but probably long overdue. She'll find life a bit easier if she can relax a bit more.

Sparkles. Try and keep that chin up. Hard when you have so much on your plate though. Fingers crossed for kitten and chicken.

jchocchip · 14/11/2011 12:58

dd left her violin on the floor! she is so in trouble!

Think we will be at home on Christmas day. Will just have to work out how to fit in the rounds and find someone to look after cat for a few days aroind new year.

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/11/2011 13:00

I think dad's face has been a bit sore and not healing up which is why he took himself to the GP who said it should be looked at- he (dad) is always quite calm about things- he made no fuss when he had prostate cancer - he is Mr Stoical.

OP posts:
jchocchip · 14/11/2011 13:02

Don't think have done any Christmas shopping, but with ds at uni, finances haven't settled down yet so budget will be limited this year :) Maybe jumpers for everyone then we can turn the heating down...

SparkleRainbow · 14/11/2011 13:23

Grin at turning heating down, was just considering whether chicken would be better outside as it might be warmer than in here!!!!! Mind you could get off my backside and light the range, but have been busy haunting the phone and inputting finances into computer.

KurriKurri · 14/11/2011 13:35

hello all, sorry to hear about your dad's face MAS, hope they can get it sorted without too much bother. I hope his eye op. went OK as well (it was today yes?)

I'm glad DS was feeling well enough to go to school today Sparkle, - how did DH's presentation go on Friday?

Hope your DS is feeling better soon pink.

Cakes and Smee - I had a perfectionist (DD) and a complete slacker (DS), I don't know which was worse (or better) - I think DD used to drive me slightly more crazy, and DS used to do the same to DH! (DS went through school doing the absolute bare minimum required, until A levels, when he pulled his finger out and did really well)

I'm Envy of Christmas shopping, we are having a budget Christmas this year, but with grown up kids they don't expect much. DD wants an ipod but she's buying it herself, and I'm going to wrap it up so she can open it on Christmas Day Grin
Other than that people are getting home made gifts (whether they want them or not Grin)

waving to topsy and jane, and everyone else esp. those having treatment.

Went to yoga this morning, this afternoon I'm gardening, then trying to get my book club book finished. Love to all.

KurriKurri · 14/11/2011 13:37

Ooh just noticed mention of madiera - yum!

SparkleRainbow · 14/11/2011 13:42

He says the presentation went very well, he had some friendly faces in the audience, who gave him feedback that it was good. He is off to a conference in London today, so I hope some more networking and contacts may come out of that too...it can't hurt. Nothing sorted yet, except he will get a half way decent redundancy package.

Very virtuous Kurri. I have cleaned a bathroom, nursed a kitten and a chicken and done finances. No calories burnt though.....which I need to do, althiough have lost 2lbs in last week, and haven't had a Wine for over two weeks now. I am so desperate for a drink not even missing it Grin
