...here we go again

OP posts:

That sounds fun, smee - the Xmas games and the dormouse activities Grin

Our Xmas Fair is big but the same every flipping year. It needs some good new games but all suggestions fall on deaf ears. It was good just to do a bit and come away (that's how i saw the lonely shoe box though, I happened to be there doing my good turn pre-event). Ho hum.

MAS - I hate turning work down too, you never know when it'll be there again. No point running yourself into the ground, though. They'll come back I am sure. Like me Wink

smee · 28/11/2011 14:55

Cakes, we're quite new to doing such things and are pretty useless at fundraising, but very good at having fun. One school near us has an ice rink this year. Shock

MAS, I think you're working too hard. You have the whole of December to get through yet.

Wonder how Topsy's getting on. Hope she's alright.

cakesandale · 28/11/2011 15:07

Ice rink? Bloody hell!

Got to go to the school in a mo but I'll be back for AMber and Topsy's news later - all is crossed

topsytinselturner · 28/11/2011 16:14

All clear !
Well , not all clear , but no new growth Grin
And lung spots have reduced to what they call "insignificant amounts" !
Still on 3 monthly CT scans , but they are very happy .

Rads haven't signed off on my plan yet , should have apts through in about a week and half .

Panic over !

Driftwood999 · 28/11/2011 16:20

Hi topsytinselturner - so glad that you have got the best results, all things considered, very, very encouraging news. Smile

smee · 28/11/2011 16:20

YEAY AND TRIPLE YEAY !!! Topsy, hooray for you. What a relief. Grin

OneInEight · 28/11/2011 16:37

That is good news Topsy - long may it last.

cakesandale · 28/11/2011 16:40

That is fantastic news Topsy. I am so very relieved, I bet you are glad you have two new cases of wine now, aren't you? Grin Wine all round. I'll pop a cork

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/11/2011 17:15

fab news topsy yay !!! toasted crumpets all round...

OP posts:
amberlight · 28/11/2011 17:15

Topsy, yippppeeeee!!!!

Here, much arrgh re rads. 3 hrs again. turns out they were 1cm out because They Can't Take Away One Number from Another Without a Calculator. 89 minus 12 is too difficult. Shaky, tired, cold, fed up. 17 more to go.

Driftwood999 · 28/11/2011 17:27

Oh amberlight - Shock how do you get to know their stuff ups this stuff? Do they actually admit to it? Poor you, hope your having the appropriate treatment for "Shaky, tired, cold, fed up" Grin

jchocchip · 28/11/2011 17:27

TopsyTinsel that is the best shiney news for the start of advent :) :)

Oh dear at the long rads session Amber, but at least you have started and they should get it right quickly tomorrow...

Done some Christmas shopping this afternoon, so at least I've started it!

smee · 28/11/2011 17:27

Heck, Amber you need more than toasted crumpets for that. Shock Have they promised it will be okay from now on??

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/11/2011 17:36

grrrr amber - I have dry sherry -no wine.

OP posts:
Driftwood999 · 28/11/2011 17:41

Does anyone here attend Exeter hospital?

topsytinselturner · 28/11/2011 17:43

Amber that is just shite ! Can't believe they got it wrong again .
Better luck tomorrow .

Am on first glass of wine .
Lamb cutlets are finishing off in the oven , veggy rice made .
tinsel topsy is a very happy woman tonight Grin
(Despite yet another row with tax credits on the phone this morning . They now owe me 13 weeks of money . All been approved , just sitting on someones desk waiting to have the "process" button pressed . And has been in this same place for the last 6 weeks ! Grrr !)

topsytinselturner · 28/11/2011 17:44

Not me drift , but I know people who live locally to it .
Any questions I can help you with , I will ask my friends ?

Figgyroll · 28/11/2011 19:53

Yayyyy for brilliant news, topsytinselturner. Grin You go right ahead and celebrate, you deserve it. Boo to the tax credits people, hopefully you will get your money before Christmas.

Poor you Amber, nothing is straightforward at your hospital. I hope everything goes much more smoothly tomorrow.

Well done on the Christmas shopping, Jane. I have a list so I've started at least Smile.

Cakes boo to school for not sending off the shoebox. I hope they felt suitably embarrassed. Our school fair is usually very well attended and raises lots of money. All the children are involved in one way or another, it's great fun and even though my boys haven't gone there for years, I always help out if I can.

Smee, sounds like a lovely day. Hope you've warmed up. I usually do 'Bash the Rat' Grin. It's very popular amongst the staff - I wonder why? Smile

jchocchip · 28/11/2011 20:19

How does 'Bash The Rat' work [ignorant emoticon]

Figgyroll · 28/11/2011 20:28

Smee's might be different, but ours is a wooden box with a hole at the top and a slide at the bottom. The rat (ours are knitted) is dropped through the hole, slides out at the speed of knots and has to be bashed on the head and stopped before it reaches the end of the slide. It's very hard to stop it, it travels so fast. Last year it was 50p for 3 goes and we have two of them (courtesy of our local scout group).

amberlight · 28/11/2011 20:49

Driftwood, I advise PCTs, so I know the lingo and listen to what they're saying to each other in there. Chief radiographer v unimpressed with her colleagues.
I don't know if I can do this 17 more times...the sensory stuff is so difficult for me...better have a big talk with them tomorrow...
So sorry that I'm being cr*p at supporting others at the moment Blush

Driftwood999 · 28/11/2011 21:07

amberlight - After seeing the Onc last week, it has dawned on me the benefits of having Radiotherapy. I know it's not going to be a breeze, but I'm committed to it now. So sorry you are having such a rough time, tell me what you mean by "the sensory stuff", I'm guessing just the whole physical experience? You are, just by expressing yourself, a support to others/me. Hus to you, hope you are resting, as others suggest, during rads.

Driftwood999 · 28/11/2011 21:09

amberlight - that was "hugs" to you! & I repeat, please just say it as it is...

amberlight · 28/11/2011 21:43

Sensory processing disorder...often goes with autism. Hypersensitive to sound, touch, flickering light, smell, cold, pressure etc.
Thanks...hugs to everyone else too

jchocchip · 28/11/2011 22:07

Bash the Rat sounds fun.

Amber, I did find that I prefered the lights to be left down low when I was being zapped. Some of them turned them on before they left, but others left the lights down. It did seem daunting at first, but somewhere in the middle I lost count and once I realised that I was over half way it went quickly. Explain how you feel and see if there is anything they can do to help.

Night night all. Going to sleep better than last night, I hope!
