Smee - That sounds like a good day out, also glad to hear you are swimming. How long, roughly before you went back to swimming, after surgery? (of course it depends on the surgery) Feeling quite blue at the moment, being very careful about what I eat as I don't want to put on weight during this period of reduced activity. I'm missing swimming and long walks. Forcing myself do just the daily, necessary stuff and keeping to some sort of routine.

topsytinselturner · 27/11/2011 20:37

You like ?

In honour of first Sunday of Advent .

Is your skin actually broken, Drift? I was a bit swollen below my sentinel scar at my two week appointment but as the incisions had healed well, surgeon said I could swim. Ask if you can swim yet, when you do, take it easy at first and build up gradually. It really helped with my range of motion and lifted my mood too. Some people swim through rads I now discover Envy and I've decided to go back to swimming now I have finished rads as skin isn't actually broken and I'm using the aqueous as barrier cream. Seems ok so far, but more importantly my mood is already better than it was... Hope you can swim soon, I know how badly I miss it when I can't go.

Topsy Tinsel Advent already :) Going to have to do something other than sloe gin tomorrow....

Driftwood999 · 27/11/2011 21:52

topsytinselturner - You shine all over, lovely name, I'm also imagining you on tiptoes Grin jchocchip - thanks, my skin is not broken, all has healed, no infections, just swelling in my armpit. The WLE was deep and the back of the tumour was against the chest wall, close to the arm pit, if you can imagine the breast as a clock, about 4 o'clock. It's the arm pain/numbness that is worrying me. It will be exactly 3 weeks tomorrow and I hope I'm just being impatient.

smee · 27/11/2011 22:01

Ooh hark at festive, Topsy. Grin

Drift, I went first with DS 5 weeks after surgery. My surgeon said so long as the scar was clean/ healed, etc I could go when I wanted to. I ache a lot still, very sore scars and swelling from fluid/ seroma. The gentle stretching of a proper (if gentle) swim, really lifted my mood. So long as you don't overdo it, I'd say it's hugely life affirming. Smile

MAS, will you be in London before February? I have one free London Eye Ticket left, so you could have for DS if you'd like it?

jchocchip · 27/11/2011 22:17

Maybe the depth of the wle and the position explains the extended healing time. I do have occasional numbness down my arm if I sleep on that shoulder but find exercise helps. Maybe the swelling is pressing on nerves?

Been to see Aunty tonight, she is doing well and discharge now planned for Tuesday to nursing home. She is going to miss the other ladies on the ward, they have been sharing a room for weeks! My Mum is home so at least I can speak to her more easily on the phone now. She seems more mentally 'with it' too thank goodness.

Nighty night all, past my bed time :)

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/11/2011 22:36

smee I haven't any plans to go to London with ds over Christmas hols - though I guess we could do a Saturday...no INSET days either, just checked.

topsy- here !

OP posts:
cakesandale · 28/11/2011 09:41

Lighting a candle for good news and chased up rads, topsytinsel. Shame the appointment is lateish, but I am glad you are more positive today. x

MAS - thanks. After Christmas is just fine. I know I have left it bloody late (about a year, I think Blush). But, CAT, I can recommend MAS's pictures, I got one for dd for Christmas last year and it is fab.

Waves to butterflies and everyone else. x

I went in to school on Friday and noticed that dd's shoebox for the Christmas appeal has been left behind. I didn't actually want to do one as I'm not at all sure about the organisation that distributes them, but dd was adamant because the boxes were going to a country where she has a friend. I am pretty irritated. I am going up there later to get it back before dd notices, she would be so upset. I promise I will try to remain polite.

cakesandale · 28/11/2011 09:42

Hi MAS - oh I like Miles Jupp too. He was wasted as Archie the Inventor Grin

amberlight · 28/11/2011 11:44

I hope I'm starting rads today, yes. With any luck, in 3/4 hr time.

Brew available for those in need.

Anyone else's computer on a go-slow with mumsnet? Hmm

cakesandale · 28/11/2011 11:51

Yes, it is.

Keeping everything crossed for you, amber, will be fine I am sure.

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/11/2011 13:23

hope you have been radiated successfully today amber
Am freezing here- waiting for some feedback on roughs -brrrr
School is closed on Wednesday but head of music says ds can go in to work with her on his composition - hope he'll be pleased-for about an hour and a half. I have my 6 monthly check up at the breast clinic but wondering whether the strikes might mean it's cancelled.
Righto, will do some washing up to warm up...

OP posts:
cakesandale · 28/11/2011 13:29

Hope it's not cancelled, MAS, you gear yourself up for these things, don't you? I'd hate to have one shelved Sad

Our school is on strike too - have palmed dd off on my Mum because, Sod's Law, my one meeting this week was scheduled for Wednesday. Good of head of music to give ds some special time. i hope he appreciates it Smile

Got the shoe box back, and no row needed. Phew!

smee · 28/11/2011 13:37

Amber, will wish you working machines that whizz you through and a warm table to lie on.

And Topsy, will be sending clear CT vibes at 2.45. Really hope it's only good news for you xx

MAS, just let me know if you decide to do the Eye. I have the ticket on my noticeboard. I'm sure someone might like it if you don't get there in time.

I have just been on a trip to a garden with DS and his class, so am frozen. I made a nest for a dormouse. v.cute. Smile

smee · 28/11/2011 13:39

Cakes, why didn't they send it then?? Seems a bit useless.

We're on strike on Wednesday too, but so is DH so he can split the day with me.

MAS, I have a back consult on Wednesday, but have heard they're cancelling lots of appointments. Am going to try and call to double check on mine. Might be worth you doing similar to avoid a wasted trip.

jchocchip · 28/11/2011 13:43

Afternoon everyone. Didn't sleep well last night (dh woke me at 3am and I couldn't get back to sleep) Took ds back to uni this morning as he wasn't well yesterday and discovered the aftermath of a party and another student's door kicked in... Ds will be billed for his share of the damage even though he wasn't there - annoying

Hope Topsy and amber get on ok today, I've lit candles in the fireplace.

We've had loads of problems with our broadband this weekend

cakesandale · 28/11/2011 14:04

Student accommodation is always a minefield, Jane, how annoying Angry

Smee - I have NO idea why it didn't go. it looked a bit sad sat there all alone. I have had to bring it back and take it apart pronto, she'd be mortified that all her work was for nothing. And I'd be mortified if it just got left there and plundered for bits and pieces Grin They had no explanation to offer, just apologised sheepishly, and I didn't fancy a row so I left it. It was definitely on time and we handed it to the teacher personally.

it was our Xmas Fair on Saturday - we raised £2,600 Shock It was nice not to be treasurer, I must say. Are you doing one this year? If so you have my sympathies.

I won a bottle of wine at it (hooray!) but it proved totally undrinkable (and I'm not fussy).

Do you have dormice locally, then? How fabulous!

Amber and Topsy - I hope all is going well. Candle still going.....

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/11/2011 14:18

oh cakes poor dd Sad
jane that's really annoying - grrr
smee good idea to ring... Do give the Eye ticket to someone else because if I'm being realistic I probably won't have time to take ds to it before Feb. But thanks v much for the offer.
Have had to turn down a family tree request as it is wanted a bit before Christmas and I think I'll be working flat out - I hate having to do that Sad

OP posts:
smee · 28/11/2011 14:23

Wow, that's a lot. No way will we raise that much. Ours isn't 'tilt he 14th, as we have ours after school rather than at a weekend. Am in charge of Bash the Festive Rat and a Lollipop Lottery. Am still searching for someone to off-load treasurer duties onto.. Hooray for winning wine though.

Dormice weren't real. Sad me and the kids got all excited building nests, then they put sock dormice in and covered them up. At the end of the morning they unearthed them, then took their temperatures to see if our nests had kept them alive or not. (there was a bottle of body temperature water in the sock). Ours lived. Phew..! Smile

Might replace my candle for Topsy and Amber with a bonfire. blinkin' freezing here.. brrr...
