oh dear- dh has thrown his cake away because he says it was too burnt- it smelled lovely in the oven- he gets very cross if things don't work out -he once made custard forgetting the sugar and put it on our puddings and got in such a rage that he chucked the bowls in the bin- we were going to gamely try the sugarless custard too !
I'd've tried the cake gladly...grrrr

What a shame. Life's not perfect. Marsepan and icing cover a multitude of burntish Christmas cakes, I'm sure.

jchocchip · 26/11/2011 19:13

My Gran used to burn currants on purpose for my Aunty because Aunty tucked into burnt cake too enthusiasticly once. Went on for a while and is a legend on three continents :)

smee · 26/11/2011 19:14

Ah no.. I like burnt fruit cake, which tells you a bit about my cooking abilities. My Grandmother was famously bad at baking. She once grated the top of a burnt sponge cake. Grin

cat, MAS has drawn me a fantastic family tree - it's a very lovely gift for my mum and dad for Christmas. MAS, have you a link so she can see?

Jane, really well done on the swim. Does make you feel so much better doesn't it? Smile

Driftwood999 · 26/11/2011 22:14

Figgy - take care to still nurse that cold. jchocchip - congratulations on your swim Envy that is my next mile stone, if I get shot of the walnut seroma in my armpit. smee- I am a competent cook, on the savoury side, but hate baking and for that reason I empathise with your family story about your grandmother grating off the burnt bits always thought that was a rather intelligent idea of mine the sign of a good problem solver Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/11/2011 09:41

I'd've eaten the burnt bits I love burned currants !
smee I can link to my kind dog facebook page...it's on there...

MAS - now don't shout, but can you fit in another picture if I send you the stuff this week? Could be for Christmas but, if that's not possible, for mid january (birthday). Let me know.

Cat - in answer to your question, MAS is a very good illustrator and takes commissions, though she is too self-effacing to tell you that. Go on MAS, give her a link to your stuff!

Topsy - i have wine coming tomorrow too, though only one box Envy

OneinEight I will be thinking of you for Thursday. It'll be fine. I'll light a candle to make sure.

RightTit - i love the name!! Your surgical team sound like they have hit the right note - some members of your family, less so Hmm. Just let it wash over you and try not to engage with their problems with it too much. You have your own to deal with and must put yourself first. Personally I absolutely refused to discuss it - I am not saying this is the right approach, but it worked for me. I still had a few people turn up on my doorstep and cry unexpectedly, which was trying, but in general my approach stopped me having to deal with other people's fears and negativity. Keeping positive has been proved to help your outcome long term, so do whatever you have to do to stay that way. Staying here with us will help Wink x

Hope KK and her family are OK Sad

Love to all. x

cakesandale · 27/11/2011 10:28

I really like Smee's tree. Smee looks pretty chic in her pic Envy

amberlight · 27/11/2011 11:40

Morning all Smile

Brew available for anyone in need.

More herceptin side effects here so another conversation with the onc will have to happen (numbness in fingers and toes). Good job I've seen the research that suggests shorter treatments work as well as the longer ones, just in case.

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/11/2011 11:41

smee is very svelte and chic and her family are all very lovely !
cakes delighted to do a picture for you -realistically would need to is that ok ?be after Christmas though as am a bit swamped.. is that ok ?
cat at cakes' insistence my website is www.kinddogillustration.co.uk (blushes)

Morning all, lovely and sunny here after a rainy start. There is plenty of Brew and toast.

Shame about DHs cake, MAS. I made a date loaf yesterday and left it in a bit too long plus the fruit had sunk to the bottom but DH still declared it a huge success, love him. My Christmas cake was lovely though and all wrapped in foil while I hunt for a shop that sells miniature bottles of brandy so I can dribble it in. Mum always used to give me a bit of her brandy to use and it made me realise yesterday that this Christmas will seem to strange and sad without her. Sad

I realised today in the shower that all the swelling and odd bumps and lumps along my scar have gone done now following radiotherapy. The skin is still looking very dark but it is much flatter and smoother now which is probably why wearing a bra is much more comfortable. In fact there are great big lengths of time that I completely forget I'm wearing a softie whereas only a few weeks ago I was aware of it all the time.

Hope you're all having a restful Sunday. Thinking of KK, her mum and sister.

topsyturner · 27/11/2011 12:44

Afternoon all

Got myself into a bit of a state .
Its been 3 and a half weeks since I had my planning appointment for rads and I haven't had any actually appointments sent through to start yet .
Have managed to convince myself its because something has shown up on my 3 monthly ct (done the week after planning apt , going in for results tomorrow)
And they have decided to put rads on hold till they give me the bad news .

I know its more likely that the nhs has ballsed up in some way , but I can't stop thinking the worst .

Figgyroll · 27/11/2011 13:04

Oh Topsy, I'm sure it's a ballsup, we all know how these things can go wrong when we least want them too. If it's any consolation, I had to wait weeks to hear when the rads would start and then the appointment came through to start almost immediately. I know how hard it is, but please try to put this to the back of your mind - keep busy if you can. We'll all be thinking of you tomorrow. Are you off to mil for Sunday blowout lunch?

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/11/2011 13:44

hugs for topsy- try not to fret-is most likely a balls up as figgy says...xxxx

jchocchip · 27/11/2011 13:52

Hi Topsy, maybe they are taking their time making your mould? Maybe they are saving the price of a stamp and will give you the letter tomorrow. +ve vibes for tomorrow and I will light you a candle for your results.

Glad to hear that your skin is healing, Figgy.

Hope you are not feeling too bad despite the side effects, Amber.

jchocchip · 27/11/2011 14:00

My skin feels no worse today after taking the plunge and going for a swim. Still sore underneath but the mepilex stops it rubbing. Think I did too much though after a month off, my arm was really sore this morning! I'm going to practice left-handed bowling on the wii later. I'm going out with work on Tuesday and don't think I'm up to bowling right-handed!

Driftwood999 · 27/11/2011 15:39

Oh Topsy - it's understandable that you are worried and fed up with the waiting, tomorrow will bring you good news I hope The clinic you attend tomorrow should chase up the Rads appointment, right?

topsyturner · 27/11/2011 16:22

Yes , been to Grannys for lunch
And yes , if everything is ok tomorrow I will get them to chase up my rads appointments .
I keep telling myself it's just a balls up with the appointments desk , but Lady Paranoia (Lady GaGas bigger and uglier sister !) keeps tapping me on the shoulder and whispering evil things in my ear !

Doesn't help that I have had headaches all week and have convinced myself I now have a brain tumour too !
CT wasn't even on my head , was chest , abdo and pelvis ! Grin

Haven't been bowling for ages jane . Don't think I could manage a good swing now ! Enjoy .

Have stripped and remade all the beds , emptied the washer and loaded the dryer , cleared out , re built and lit the fire .
Time for a hot chocolate reward now .
Anyone want a mug ?

jchocchip · 27/11/2011 16:32

Mmmmm thanks Topsy I'd like a Brew too. You've earned yours. Think I will relay the fire, it's so windy here, it feels very cold again. 'spose headaches could be stress related waiting for the results.

I would use the lightweight balls, but my fingers are too big for them, hence the left hand plan.

This is small potatoes compared to what others are going through. 3 weeks post surgery for WLE and SNB, how much pain were you experiencing? Still sore and with a now, thankfully reducing sermoma, yesterday I had what feels like an electrical shot in the soft tissue of my boob twice, (just a momentary jolt) I'm thinking, this is good, it's the nerve damage repairing. More worried about the pain/numbness in my arm.
WLE = Wide Local Excision
SNB = Sentinel Node Biopsy

smee · 27/11/2011 18:39

I have never been called chic ever. Shock

cat, call your BCN tomorrow and ask if she'll look it up on the computer. I did that with mine and she was ever so understanding. They totally get what it's like to have to wait.

Wish I'd thought of saying that before Topsy. Have just given Lady P a swift kick on your behalf. I reckon it's letter lost in the post stuff too. They'll probably want you to start on Tuesday or something daft like that. Smile

Drift, swimming's good - don't delay if you want to go - I have started again and have slight seroma and very stiff too. Felt fantastic if a bit creaky.. Cake grating's a mighty fine solution. I've done it too. Grin

MAS, DS has now hidden your picture, as it's apparently 'too beautiful'. Which of course it is, but he's still not keeping it. Grin

We've been on the London Eye this afternoon. Someone gave us free tickets, so it felt like hopping on a bus. Was a fantastic time of day to go - bright blue skies fading to dusk as we went round.

I blew up the toaster earlier. Can hear lots of huffing coming from the kitchen as DH is trying to fix it and DS is 'helping'. The cat has just come to join me, as it's safer up here.. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/11/2011 19:28

aw thank you cat !
oh smee your ds is lovely - bless him. I bet the Eye was fantastic - ds wants to go -he went when he was about 3 or 4 with me for a friend's birthday but now he wants to see his beloved buildings from high up. I went on it before it was opened as I know the architects Grin (show off emoticon)
