...here we go again

OP posts:
jchocchip · 21/11/2011 07:17

Morning all.

All the best for ilgc's brilliant (87% well done) dd today. And best wishes to those with appointments today - someone is meeting with surgeon, are there any others? Must dash, train to catch!

topsyturner · 21/11/2011 07:45

Morning

Luck and positive vibes to all with appointments today .
ILGC your daughter is amazing !

Got DD off school today , why should the teachers benefit from her lost voice ? Grin

topsyturner · 21/11/2011 07:47

Meant to ask , has anyone had problems with itching ?
Strange question i know .
It's just that I am hellishly itchy , everywhere . My entire body !
No new washing powders or shower gels etc .

smee · 21/11/2011 09:35

I didn't itch, Topsy but it sounds like a classic drug reaction. Could you call your unit and ask. E45 Cream's good for itching. Cheap too. Smile

Cold, foggy, damp here. Hope it's not so gloomy where you all are. Have stacks of work, but will dip in later to have a Brew

cakesandale · 21/11/2011 10:29

Dee - another vote for slapping the cream on from now, and several times a day, too!
ILGC - well done to your dd and good wishes for her chemo.

KK - woohoo! for ds and his dp.

I've only read this page and the last one so sorry if i have missed any big news. I was away all the weekend on family duties so have got way behind.

I am off to chip away at my mound of work but may return later when I have a block....

jchocchip · 21/11/2011 11:59

Time for Brew now! Got up earlier this morning but still ended up running for train. Train was late anyway so I could have dawdled. Only 2 more rads to go now - feels like a celebration will be in order :)

Still haven't found my passport, must have put it in a very safe place this time, aargh. If I find it I'm going to book a few days away with my cousin at the begining of January...

topsyturner · 21/11/2011 13:13

I lost my passport last year , found it in the very back of the understairs cupboard in the very bottom of a bag of old jewellery and bits and bobs !
How the heck it got there I will never know .
And ofcourse it was only found after the date I needed it to travel with .
Grrrrrrrr !

The only meds I am on right now is Citalopram (anti d) smee . I have researched a little and itching is one of the side effects that they tell you to seak immediate medical attention for !
I have been taking them since the begginning of June though , so is it likely to be those ?

Lunch , what shall I have ?
Have taken chicken breasts out of the freezer for dinner , going to make my home made kievs .

jchocchip · 21/11/2011 13:19

Yum Topsy, home made kievs sound good.

After going through bedroom and sorting lots of stuff out that has needed doing for ages, I had another look where it should have been and it was hiding with my birth cert in an envelope for some reason in the tin box. Yipee! Now to see if flight still available...

smee · 21/11/2011 13:40

Ooh, call your BCN or hotline number Topsy. I haven't a clue, but one of the v.few pluses about Cancer is you have top medics to ask at the drop of a hat.

Hope you get your flight, Jane. Smile

KurriKurri · 21/11/2011 13:41

topsy - I have a lot of itching, and I am also on citalopram - I didn't know it was a s/e, but now i think about it, the itching has got less since my dose was lowered recently. Does your itching feel as if it is sort of under the skin, and scratching doesn't help much?

Good luck to ILGC's DD for chemo today, hope it all goes smoothly.

Don't overdo it Cakes, make sure you have plenty of tea breaks, its been scientifically proved you work more effectively if you have frequent breaks Grin

Holiday sound a great plan jane - glad you found your passport, where are you off to?

I've done yoga this morning, it was a bit uncomfortable because my back's a bit achey atm - I don't know whether to do stuff or rest, it only hurts in certain positions.

DeeScent · 21/11/2011 13:42

Haha, you've heard about the keys in the knickers already, but how about putting my wedding ring on the very top of a bookcase (why?). DH regular loses passports, phones, credit cards etc. Gives dd a get-out-of-jail-free card if ever she is careless with valuables.

Topsy - a long shot re the itching - could it be because you've recently had the heating on and perhaps your system is sensitive these days after treatments and drugs to dehyration? This happened to me so I put pots of water onto the radiaators to evaporate to rehydrate rooms.

Also I had a skin itch with a new carpet that had a stain protector on it (was probably beautifully carcinogenic too!).

Could be the Cit if it's got to a build-up stage.

By the way, that Aqueous cream really smells to me of hospital sorry, but, yuk!

Kievs - super-yum!

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/11/2011 14:06

another yum for the kievs...
yes, aqueous is a bit industrial smelling but I stil use it as a moisturiser on my neck and face because it doesn't make me itch ! I also swear by good old vaseline.
Got a letter inviting me to my routine mammogram (the 3 yr one for us elderly ladies) so had to ring and tell them I was being taken care of...
Am going to meditate and then work,work,work...x

OP posts:
smee · 21/11/2011 14:19

I am the only person my team had ever met, who had an allergic reaction to Aqueous Cream. Grin

cakesandale · 21/11/2011 14:34

Ah yes smee, I remember that now. The only person EVER to have an allergic reaction to aqueous Grin

I can't look at the stuff any more. It is a horrid smell. To me it isn't quite hospital as such, just sort of - dreary and sad.

KK- achy joints are horrid. Mine are a bit grim too. I think it's the weather. Cold, damp and just yuk.

I am having lots and LOTS of breaks KK. Having the attention span of a gnat makes sure of that Hmm

DeeScent · 21/11/2011 14:37

LOL at Smee's clain-to-fame!

Cakes - I decided after my first application that it was going to be BINNED at the end of rads. I have some lovely cinnamon smelling hand cream I am compensating with.

cakesandale · 21/11/2011 14:41

Quite right, Dee. Cinnamon hand cream sounds scrummy.

I have wondered if adding a few drops of essential oil and giving it a good stir might be worth a try Not tried it yet, though.

I am mainlining L'Occitane's Peony scented stuff (Pivoine????) at the moment - really light and flowery but also sort of green. Yum.

DeeScent · 21/11/2011 14:50

Mmmmm, peonies sound exotic. I love beautiful scents. I was inhaling the vanilla extract when making cakes this morning Grin

KurriKurri · 21/11/2011 14:57

I think I remember your allergy being on the national news Smee GrinGrin

I'm using L'Occitane atm Cakes, - my skin has gone all crackly because I've had to stop my thyroid medicine in preparation for my radioactive hoohaa on wed.
I love the smell of l'occitane stuff, - am thinking of treating DS's Dp to some fro Christmas.

Would anyone like a poundland chocolate lime sweetie? ('So nasty, they are nice' would be the advertising slogan for them) DD and I are eating them and saying 'mmm these are horrid' then having another one.

  • I'm pretty sure they are low GI Blush
DeeScent · 21/11/2011 14:59

Er, sorry to tell you this, Kurri... Grin

KurriKurri · 21/11/2011 15:02

Oh dear, - well I shared them, so I haven't had too many

cakesandale · 21/11/2011 15:03

Choc limes are always a bit horrid. I'll have one, though - thanks

Crackly skin sounds horrid too. Will you need to take the medication again after zapping, or will this end the palaver?

KurriKurri · 21/11/2011 15:08

I take a half dose, starting five days afterwards, and get tested again in January. It's weird how quickly the symptoms have come back, but it's reassured me that I've made the right choice in having the zapping, - I really don't want to be messing around trying to get the tablets right and stopping and starting them. (Well it's reassured me for today, I may freak out again tomorrow)

DeeScent · 21/11/2011 15:09

Btw, the cakes are for dd's school charity sale (honest)

....although I may have to taste the goods before they go on sale, for quality control purposes...

pinkstarlight · 21/11/2011 15:48

ilgc...wow you must be so proud of your dd.

topsy..my first thought was the itching to do with your medication but when i think about it i was diagnosed with hayfever this year for the first time ever.i wonder if its something to do with your immune system being low that makes you more susceptible to alligies.sounds like a good idea to see your gp.

jane...your nearly done almost time to celebrate.

kurri...that sounds like a good plan,as for chocolate limes yuk.

at the moment im using balneum cream on my skin but im so missing my palmers cocoa butter cream,i also use to use bio oil now and then a friend of mine swears that the recue oil is just as good and they sell it in the pound shop.

kids are back at school so it was quite nice to have the house to myself again and not hear the word "mum" but im sure they will make up for that when they come home from school.

went to see a friend earlier who is feeling really fed up shes just getting over brain surgery for a brain aneurysm, like most of us its given her a real scare and shes terrified its going to come back.think i cheered her up will go and see her again later this week.

i plan to take the dog out for a walk come back have a hot bath and put on my pjs,who cares if its early lol.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/11/2011 16:20

just having a break- ds home from singing lesson soaked- no idea it was raining so hard outside-will make him some hot choc. It says in his singing diary that he needs to do last week's homework, which was to learn the words of a Schubert song (in English) which he has forgotten to do - grrrr
Meant to say- there was an owl outside last night- ds thinks it was a tawny owl- so nice to hear.
