...here we go again

Ahhh remember it so well, it is a lovely time in any young couple's life, remember bringing a coat-stand home on the bus once because it was such a bargain! Then the bus broke down and I was standing by the side of the road with the bloody thing! Still got it 28 years later so certainly was a bargain!

jchocchip · 20/11/2011 11:09

Morning all! New houses are so exciting. Remember rolling around the empty room in our first house, before we had any furniture. Well done to kk's ds and his dp.

Having a lazy day today, still got tail end of cold and boob is a bit swollen and itchy underneath. Will get up now and put dinner in. Ds is home for the day so will visit Aunty while dh drives him back to uni later.

Porridge is a good idea...

topsyturner · 20/11/2011 14:19

Afternoon All

Am at Grannys for Sunday lunch (again !)

Jane keep an eye on the itchy sore boob , and get it looked at if it still gives you problems . (Looked at by a medical professional . Not some random man in the street !)

Going shopping for school socks and school tights shortly .
Its non stop rock and roll with me Grin

KurriKurri · 20/11/2011 14:37

I used to hate all the uniform shopping topsy, so I don't envy you that task. Main problem was DD was so skinny everything fell off her, and her feet are like long bits of string, so shoes didn't fit. Oh the joys of dragging a moaning teenager round shops Grin

I remember the first house DH and I owned, - we moved in 3 weeks before DS was born, - I went into a sort of nesting frenzy trying to get everything sorted for the imminent arrival Smile

How is DD ILGC? - does she have another treatment coming up soon? Lots of love and good thoughts to her Smile

Figgyroll · 20/11/2011 16:11

Afternoon all. Brews ready and there's some fresh banana and walnut cake.

KK, well done to DS and DP on their house. How exciting for them. I remember our first. We were so poor we didn't live in the living room for the first couple of years till we could afford to heat it. We had a 6 inch portable telly perched on a chair while we sat on a hand-me-down sofa in the kitchen diner. Our first Christmas baubles were pingpong balls rolled in glue, then glitter with a bit of cotton attached. Smile The tree was donated by a relative. Mind you, I was 18 and DH was 21 and we were very young to have a mortgage in those days but we had so much fun we didn't mind surviving on beans on toast at the end of the month.

Well done too to the little Topsey's. I hope you're having a lovely day with the inlaws Topsy.

MAS, any Toblerone left or has your research finished? Grin

Jane, definitely get that boob looked at. I laughed at Topsy's comment about not by any old stranger. Smile

Went for a lovely drive out this afternoon, had afternoon tea at some tearooms overlooking the Castle and the Downs. I've slammed the pork in the oven and am keeping fingers crossed for lovely crackling today otherwise I'll have 3 disappointed men in the house. Wink

jchocchip · 20/11/2011 17:34

Decided against flashing boob to random man in the street! I will ask to see someone when I go to rads tomorrow.

Mmmm Brew and cake. There is a little caramel shortcake left here if anyone fancies it- won't be here long, the dcs are attacking it...

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/11/2011 18:19

we have home made chocolate chip cookies- - made by dh -very delicious- I've had 3 - quick, grab some !
how romantic your first house stories are Smile Dh moved into my house (I had filled it with lodgers-they gradually moved out until it was just us two)
My parents bought their first houe when I was 5, it cost about £5k (ludicrously same houses in that road cost near enough £1m) we lived in the kitchen for ages- my room just had a bed in it !
figgy haven't touched the toblerone-yet- need it to draw (it will appear in a drawing is what I mean !!)
jane can you see your bcn once rads are finished -I took my sorry chest to mine and she gave me some very brilliant dressings as the skin was very sore and weeping.

btw- have been in the wonderful world of smee drawing her lovely family today...

smee · 20/11/2011 19:00

I have vaguely fond memories of living in dust for years, as DH rebuilt the house around us. Still got some of it. Grin Lovely to hear DS is moving then, Kurri. I know you like his DP too, which is a huge plus. Is it far away?? Hope not.

Have visions of little Topsy's karatey-ing their way round Belfast choosing socks and of Jane stopping random men to look at her breast. Grin

Amber, GO BACK TO THE SOFA !! I know it's not in your nature, but for once just sit.

Figgy, sounds like a lovely day and evening ahead. I've been veggie for years, but the idea of crackling suddenly seems mmm.. Smile

MAS, feel guilty you were stuck in drawing my family. We went to Hayward to see a lovely video artist's show (Pipilotti Rist). Am sure your DS would really enjoy if you get the chance. Bits of nudity, but nothing risque, though my DS did think one woman with not a lot on looked like his teacher. Am hoping he doesn't burble on to her about it tomorrow. Shock

KurriKurri · 20/11/2011 19:20

Aw - the drawing sounds lovely MAS,, - Smee, MAS did a beautiful card for my DD's graduation, - she was chuffed to bits with it Smile

DS and his DP are only moving five minutes walk from where they live now - which is good because one of their dogs screams and vomits if he has to go in the car!

Figgy - we had a little portable too, - black and white Grin -
It sounds like you had a lovely afternoon, hope the boys enjoy their roast Smile

Its been foggy and damp all day here, so not much done apart from indoor stuff.

I hope they can give you something tomrrow to ease the soreness jane.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/11/2011 21:19

smee I enjoyed drawing today - I had special fun with the cat's cradle (poor cat) - am envious though of your going out to exhibition - that's a real treat. Friend of mine went to the Lost Birds thing- no,the Gone Birds which looks amazing, only on until 23rd. I miss being in London for those things.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/11/2011 21:20

Hi all, Kurri my DD is doing really well, has her next chemo tomorrow. She is amazingly positive and says she feels this will make her a much better doctor. She got 87% on her last exam even though she had surgery and chemo during the 6 week module - as you can tell I am a very proud mama!
I had my check-up last week and the doctors are very concerned about my lymphodema but I can't not work, mainly because I really love it, and that seems to be the only solution. Daily physio is just not compatible with work. The trouble with not being busy as I am sure you all agree is that you have too much time to think. Not good, I had a bit of a meltdown at work last week, it would have been my darling husband's birthday, but if I had been at home the day would have been unbearable.

amberlight · 20/11/2011 21:53

ILGC, blimey your DD is doing well, you're right.
So are you.
Have a hug/ Brew / Wine

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 20/11/2011 22:01

Thanks amber, what I love about this thread is that everyone knows what it is like and can empathise. Plus we all seem to be winos!

KurriKurri · 20/11/2011 22:04

Wow 87%! - what a star she is ILGC. Smile

I'm sorry you had a bad moment at work, - special dates are always so hard when you have lost a loved one. Sad And you are bound to have many ups and downs with all you have been through, have another hug from me xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/11/2011 22:31

and from me too ILGC
What a star your dd is x

OP posts:
smee · 20/11/2011 22:39

Wow for your DD, ILGC. How amazing to do that well. No wonder you're proud. Will be thinking of her tomorrow then. Really don't know how you keep going amidst everything you've been through. What did you decide about the Christmas party? Hope your Lymphodema's not too painful. Sad

MAS, I know I'm a spoilt brat living in London. Takes us half an hour on the bus to get to the SouthBank, so it's ever so easy to see lots. Can't wait to see what you've done. Smile

Amber, are you on the sofa...?

Figgyroll · 20/11/2011 22:47

86% is brilliant, ILGC, your daughter is amazing - and so are you, for having to cope with everything you've been through and still carry on working. I'm sorry you had a tough day at work last week. I hope tomorrows chemo session goes well for your DD.

We're only an hour from London and manage to get up every couple of months. I worked in the City for 20 years before having DC so love going back up.

Off to bed now so night night all. I hope those who are having trouble getting to sleep manage to drift off quickly tonight. Sweet dreams.

DeeScent · 20/11/2011 22:56

ILGC - wow, congratulations to your daughter - surgery and chemo - that's really inspiring (although that gives me no excuses for my upcoming rads!! She's set a high standard.)

Just a quick question for ladies who have been through rads - re the aqueous cream - I've bought a pot and wonder if I should be using it now before rads to moisturise the boob or just start from treatment one. Or is it only really necessary on the patch that will receive the boost? Any thoughts welcome -thanks.

Hoping Shron and Summat are coping okay.

KurriKurri · 20/11/2011 23:00

I would start using it now Dee, - and I'd do the whole area just to keep the skin as moisturised as possible.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/11/2011 23:02

yep, start slapping it on all over from now !

OP posts:
DeeScent · 20/11/2011 23:03

Thank you, Kurri - it's such a big pot anyway, I might as well!

Sweet dreams Figgy and everyone else.

DeeScent · 20/11/2011 23:05

Thanks MAS - off to bathroom for a good slap!
