...here we go again

OP posts:
jchocchip · 19/11/2011 11:45

Yay for surviving the beer festival :)
Today I'm trying to clear the bomb site that is my kitchen and looking for my passport, which I realise is lost. Aargh!

Dd is selling buns at a Christmas Fair so I will go there later. One stall had posh fairy cakes at £1.75. Guides did a quick reprice so theirs were between 30p and 80p...

Driftwood999 · 19/11/2011 13:16

Pink that sounds like such a lot bear and you sound so perky, I hope you have enough help when you need it? You're entitled to have the down feelings and what can you/one do but accept those feelings, don't hide them totally from those around you, and hope for better times which surely must be coming your way. You deserve a badge as so many others do. All I need at the moment is someone to chat to about this seroma and the pain/numbness down my arm. I'm planning on calling the bc nurse on Monday for advice as I just don't think I can go on with it for what seems to me an indefinite period. I also think I'm being a bit negative here because my op was only on 15/11 so not even 2 weeks. I just want totaly honesty so I can prepare. It feels like I'm cracking a walnut in my armpit but not enjoying the fun of the party piece! Figgy, oh the relief you must feel to have a bra that fits! Something to look forward too in a week or two Grin I tried one of my normal bras on yesterday and it just didn't help. I'm broad of back and smallish of Nork (thanks for the term Topsy!) 38B but I'm on my last fasteners and they are now too tight but I have lost weight. I've tried different combos of sizes on in shops but then the cup does not fit. I'm going to look into a bra hook extension, or Heath Robinson something first. DeeScent noticed you are having a flu jab before Rads, is that what they recommend? You are a few weeks ahead of me. Have a good weekend everyone.

pinkstarlight · 19/11/2011 13:35

dee...was very upsetting at the time especially being told they couldnt risk any more chemo for a long time not even at a very low dose.booked in to seeing my gp on tuesday but i already have a repeat prescription for my balneum cream other than put me on another intense course of high dose vitamin b there is nothing they can do but from experience makes no difference.

mas...glad your dads ok.

topsy...hope all goes well for your dc today,by the way i think your friens is right.

soreness seems to have eased quite alot today pheww thank goodness, was told to do the exercises he gave me every day and i should ache for an hour afterwards.if i dont ache im not doing enough and if i ache for more than 2 hours im doing to much.im amazed i never even knew i had a problem with my shoulder.

pinkstarlight · 19/11/2011 13:46

drift..i know how much seromas can get you down i had little choice to get mine drained as it was very big and had pockets under my arm, around the chest then moved high around my collar bone, which was great at first like letting the pressure out of a tyer.but after having it drained a number of times and using extra big long needles and ultra sound entering at my scar to reach the collar bone i was in agony.i would say to anyone if you can hang on do as all that happens is they fill up again.

Driftwood999 · 19/11/2011 14:18

Thanks Pink. X

DeeScent · 19/11/2011 14:36

Pink, you've been through so much there - hope the gp has sympathy and some good suggestions. Glad the soreness is under control; sounds like you have to judge it quite carefully between not doing enough exercise and too much - not so easy?!

Drift, I asked the receptionist at the docs about the flu jab and I think it's the accepted thing that if you are undergoing cancer treatment that you are entitled and it's a good idea as your body is possibly at a low ebb and more vulnerable to infection. Also can you imagine having proper flu and travelling to rads?!!!! Shock

Possibly early days for the seroma but they will drain it if you're suffering. The only thing is, like Pink says, is that it can easily refill so you're back to square one. I thought mine would never go but I think it did in less than three weeks although yours sounds more painful. The bcn will have some good advice hopefully. Pain is such a bloomin' aggravation. I try to occupy myself or at least my mind and then when not concentrating on it it seems to diminish.

Have a nice weekend - we've just been for a lovely country walk, Autumn leaves reflected in a local pond in sunshine - gorgeous! And now hot choc...

smee · 19/11/2011 14:41

You will start to feel better soon, promise. I found it took a good 3 months and you've really been through it with all sorts, so your body's bound to take a while. Hope thumb thing's a blip. Sad

Jane you can keep the orange glow, but am Envy over your Parker. I always wanted one. Could never work out why my brother was allowed one and not me. Hmm Hope cake sale goes well for your DD.

Drift, pain and numbness is sadly normal. Not that it's easy, but it will go down/ fade, just takes a while. Definitely get it checked out though, as you don't want an infection and BC Nurse should be able to tell if it needs draining or not. Hope you're okay. I remember how miserable mine made me. Go have a flu jab. I was definitely told to have one last year before Rads.

MAS, good news on your dad then. I find the frozen thing icky too, but I think it's weird rather than painful. Am v.excited you might be doing my pic. Hope we don't prove too pesky. Smile

I have just been to see Spy Kids in 4D, at our local flee pit. All a bit boggling, as the '4' bit is smells. You have to rub a scratch and sniff card when a number appears on screen. I only managed to get 1 out of 8 to work. Quite pleased it failed, as according to the action one of the smells was a baby's nappy Shock

KurriKurri · 19/11/2011 14:44

Hello all, - Figgy hooray for comfy bras, - when you find one that suits it makes such a difference.

Well done for getting through the beer festival topsy Smile -Good luck to your DC for their gradings.

Drift - I only had a small seroma, but from what I have read about others experience on here they are very uncomfortable, sorry you are being bothered by one Sad - I think phoning the bcn is a good idea, so that they can at least reassure you and give you a timescale for things settling, or arrange draining.

Pink - you have been through such a rough time, and I always think you sound perky, - full of humour and fun -good on you. I'm glad the aches and pains are a bit better today, but getting the exercises right sounds a bit of a balancing act.

Dee Envy of the leaf blower - I think they look great, and we have loads of leaves in the garden (which the dog likes dancing about in Grin)

Been for coffee and a bit of shopping with DS and his DP this morning, which was nice. Housework this afternoon (boo, hiss), think I'll have a Brew first, - can I get one for anyone else?

KurriKurri · 19/11/2011 14:46

Oops x-posted - hello Smee, - scratch and sniff at the movies?, whatever next Did DS enjoy it?

jchocchip · 19/11/2011 16:12

Smee - kk's the one who is going to look like she has eaten readybreak.
Cake sale went well, they raised well over £100.

Scratch and sniff! whatever next ;) My sense of smell is pretty bad at the best of times, and with this cold, I prob wouldn't have got any of them. May go and see about a flu jab, never had one before .

Cat trying to open the fridge, anyone would think we starve that moggy!

Pink - hope your gp can help. Drift, hope the seroma starts to reabsorb soon.

amberlight · 19/11/2011 16:57

£100 for cakes is good. Raised not far off that at church fete this morning running the tombola stall. Then went to a school reunion. I'm now so tired I can't think straight. There is a link between these three things, called Be Sensible For Once In Your Life Amber Hmm

Puts Brew on for those in need of such a thing by this point in the afternoon.

KurriKurri · 19/11/2011 17:03

That's was a good total for the cake sale jane. And well done amber on the tombola, - now for goodness sake sit down and have a rest woman! Grin

Figgyroll · 19/11/2011 17:47

Well done, fund raising ladies. Brilliant!!!! Is the Brew still going, Amber and KK - I've been ironing and it's thirsty work.

I wouldn't like scratch and sniff movies either - I've hardly any sense of smell so just wouldn't get it. I've seen a couple of the Spy Kids movies though and they're quite good action films. DS2 loves them.

Drift, sorry your seroma's giving you gip. I had two and both of them needed draining as they were interfering with my rads planning. The first drainage resulted in an infection - not nice, but the second one, a few weeks later, went smoothly. I havent had a recurrence thank goodness. I hope your BC nurse puts your mind at rest on Monday.

I've made a start on the Christmas shopping. DS2 is at college and has a main tutor, two others and three teaching assistants who help him with his work in different subjects (he has Downs). He adores them all so insisted I buy them all something. Thank goodness for Boots this year and their 3 for 2 offer. Saved quite a bit. Smile At least it's a start. Looking forward to spagbol for dinner (when DH and DS2 get home from footie) and a night in front of the telly.

Hope you're all having a lovely Saturday.

smee · 19/11/2011 17:52

Stay !!

Am impressed by the fundraising. I have done nothing more useful than scratch and sniff so far today and I even failed at that. Confused

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/11/2011 18:11

Hello ! am very sorry to hear about seromas - crikey, I was lucky to escape that ! Well done for fund raising - jane's talk of caramel shortbread thingies made me really want some yesterday.
I have been drawing ideas for smee's picture (she has an adorable family) !

OP posts:
amberlight · 19/11/2011 19:05

There's always Brew

Figgyroll · 19/11/2011 19:35

or Wine Smile

topsyturner · 19/11/2011 20:25

Evening All

We have a new green belt (DD) and a new blue belt (DS) in the family .
DD managed a 3 hour grading session with laryngitis (sp?) , bless her heart she insisted on going ahead with it all .

So I brought her home after that , dosed her up with nurofen and stuck her in bed with Christmas movies .
She is now sitting infront of X Factor , and talking like Marge Simpson Grin

I had a nap this afternoon , am knackered after my night out .

Made yummy steaks for dinner , have chocolate orange puds with custard for afters . But I think it's gonna be a while before I can tackle them .

I see there are some sad people on here this weekend . Empathetic hugs all round . Life is bloody hard sometimes isn't it ?

jchocchip · 19/11/2011 20:35

I think i am going to have to make some more. Closest I got to eating any was to scrape out the saucepan. It was all sold by the time I went back to buy things.

Well done to the mini Topsys.

Amber hope you are recovering from your busy day.

Think I've done too much too - half way through sorting out bedroom and it needs finishing before can get into bed... oops.

Did some shopping and got some more condensed milk and golden syrup :)

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/11/2011 21:16

yum jane !
well done to junior topsy s - poor dd,but brave to do her grading being poorly.

KurriKurri · 20/11/2011 10:13

thank you, - I'm very pleased for them, and they sounded so excited on the phone. It'll be their first place that they've chosen 'together' IYSWIM, - the house they have now was DP's and DS moved in with her. So I think they are looking forward to doing it up together. Smile

I've eaten so much porridge, I'm not sure I can move Grin Got the kettle on for Brew though if anyone wants one. Hope everyone has a good, relaxing Sunday.
