x post drift

i I am here, have been lurking this morning...and cleaning house obviously Blush Dh working from home today, so trying to help him with his presentation that he is giving tomorrow, you never know there may be propesctive employers there....!?

SparkleRainbow · 09/11/2011 14:15

Hi not i ....duh!

amberlight · 09/11/2011 14:22

Can I hide the ironing and polish the dog too??!

You know my consultant told me that No Way was my herceptin responsible for nosebleeds?
I've just found the leaflet from the manufacturer. Side effects include nosebleeds.

GRRRRRR

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/11/2011 14:27

gah,consultants-what do they know !
1in8 - well done - being oestrogen positive is a 'good' thing really, you'll probably be prescribed tamoxifen if you are pre-menopausal.
I can't keep up with you all today- my mind is in overdrive because of trying to fit in my work before Christmas and also trying to sort presents early because I will panic otherwise- I am panicking now in fact.
Am off to meditate before ds gets home

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 09/11/2011 14:44

Do you know amber, every time I had a s/e from herceptin, I was told it couldn't possibly be the herceptin Confused - if they don't take any notice of people when they have s/e's how are they going to build up a proper picture of the drug? Very strange - consultants can be rather inflexible I find!

Grin at Dee, we can link to pictures of pudding porn! (actually that sounds a bit dodgy, - sorry Grin)

Sparkle - good luck for DH with his presentation tomorrow - hope it goes very well for him Smile - well done on the cleaning - I am tring to be organised and multi task - result = I have a lot of half done jobs needing to be finished and I've run out of puff!

MAS - try not to panic, - it will all come right, these things generally do. I am determined not to get into my usually pre-Christmas panic this year Grin

Got a bit muddled over who was asking about what, but re tamoxifen - I've been on it 2 1/2 years now and had some menopausal type side effects initially, hot flushes mainly, but it has calmed down a lot now, and I would say I don't really have any S/E's at all - just the odd ache, but that could be old age! (I had a hysterectomy when I was in my thirties, so obviously wasn't having periods or anything, so can't really comment on any of that side of things.)

DeeScent · 09/11/2011 14:44

I'm going to get Christmas sorted before rads start.

smee · 09/11/2011 14:50

Ooh lots on here today. Can't keep up, but hello to Shron. Really hope you get good news today, but if not we'll be here for you and want to help if we can.

Dee, I scored 8's too. Interesting your lot saying it wasn't that significant. Mine said Tamoxifen would really help against recurrence. Can't remember the stats now, but seem to remember it was quite hefty. Made my decision a lot easier.

1in8, 1st Dec's not too far away. Do you know if you're having chemo after the op or not yet? Ask any and all questions no matter how daft. Smile

Drift, glad to hear you're feeling okay and keeping busy. Smile

G'ah no time. DS's class were doing assembly today, so that biffed out a chunk of work time. Was lovely to go to even if all he did was sit on his hands, miss his cue, then stand up when he should have been sitting down. Grin

Am so behind and it's already nearly pick up time. Waving to all though. Will come back later and catch up if I can. Smile

DeeScent · 09/11/2011 15:17

Aaaw, bless Smee's ds missing his cue! Hope he wasn't upset. That sort of mishap adds to the charm of kiddy productions though, doesn't it?

I think re the tamoxifen that becasue I only have a 1-2% chance of recurrance the drug only gives about 0.3% extra protection, so my decision to stop if SEs feel unbearable isn't too significant. I definitely want to try it though and hope my body copes.

OneInEight · 09/11/2011 16:25

Its the mishaps that make the kids productions fun isn't it? Got one on the tudors coming up but the previous one incorporating fairies and vikings still has me mystified!

Not clear about chemotherapy yet - it was sort of mentioned - but will depend to a large extent on what they find after surgery so didn't seem worth agonizing over now.

topsyturner · 09/11/2011 16:27

Hi All

Had another morning sleep . Then a nice warm bath before picking up DD from school .
Awful wet and windy day here today .

When you have your rads planning appointment is there a lot of nudity involved ? My previous appointments have been quite discrete , they had issued me with the cape thingy and not exposed me much .
Seems a very petty thing to worry about considering all I have been through , but it's playing on my mind .

Haven't defrosted anything for dinner , will have to see what I can make that's quick and easy . I have eggs , so maybe omelettes ?

I am no use with deciphering the medical jargon , I still haven't asked to see mine ! I might ask when I go for my next 3 monthly CT results .
I can't believe that the rads people will be giving me a CT tomorrow , but I will still have to go in for my 3 monthly CT next week . Surely they could use the same scan ?

KurriKurri · 09/11/2011 16:48

2 CT's in 2 weeks does seem slightly bonkers topsy - I'd ask if they can do it all in one. - I don't remember huge amounts of nudity, basically it will be lining up the machines, you'll probably have to have your arm over your head for that on your scar side, - but I don't see why the other side shouldn't be covered if you feel exposed. radiographers are nice folk generally and fairly accommodating Smile

OneInEight - your tumour sounds of a similar type to mine, er+ and her2+ so tamoxifen and you should be offered herceptin. amber has had similar treatment to me, so we will happily talk you through what it all involves when you are ready - you're quite right not to want information overload atm. - Good news is its all quite doable, and nothing to get het up about Smile

Have spent the afternoon alternately taking the dog out for a wee, and mopping up puddles of the floor. Where's all this urine coming from? Am going to have to get her kidneys checked again Sad

amberlight · 09/11/2011 16:48

Christmas is SO unsorted here, that's for sure! If it's not on the internet, people aren't getting it this year!!

Topsy, that's really weird about your CT scans, I agree. Why can't they use the same ones??

KK, yup. So many people report nosebleeds on the support forums and it even lists it in the leaflet but they claim it's not a side effect!! Gah! Trouble is, I take ibuprofen and paracetamol for arthritis, and ibuprofen causes nosebleeds too in some people. So I think it's the combination that's been the problem. Shall stop the ibuprofen and get really creaky for a year Hmm

DeeScent · 09/11/2011 17:57

Kurri, definitely don't Google "pudding porn" Shock

Interesting about your Tamoxifen experience - part of me think I would be quite pleased to lose my periods but it's a bit more complicated than that isn't it, re menopausal symptoms.

jchocchip that's encouraging that you've been okay on Tamoxifen - hopefully I will be the same.

Sparkle, positive vibes for your dh tomorrow.

Topsy, people tend to speak very highly of the rads ladies so hopefully we will both be well looked after by sympathetic bods.

Amber I'm organising Christmas via the internet too - brilliant!

Figgyroll · 09/11/2011 18:25

Evening everyone.

I hope it was good news for Shron today.

Amber, good idea to start your Christmas shopping now if you can and get those cards all written asap - you will have a hectic few weeks in December. Oh, and maybe get a couple of food deliveries too so you won't have to trek around the supermarket. You sound a very organised person, I'm sure you'll have it all under control.

Topsy, when I had my pre-rads planning session they issued me with a shirt type thing that had poppers down the middle, across both shoulders and down the sides. It meant that I could change into it as soon as I got to the rads department (to save on time), then when I got onto the bed they just unpopped the left side, leaving me covered up on the right. I took it home with me every night so it must save the hospital a bit on laundry bills. After my last session I was so glad to stuff it in the 'used gowns' bag - it was a good feeling to get rid of it. Smile

Aww, Smee, I used to love class assemblies. The mistakes are all part of their charm - although I see it from the other side now I'm a teaching assistant. The teachers are mortified when it goes a little awry and think it reflects on them. I try to reassure them from a parents point of view.

MAS, I like to be organised too - I have written out the Christmas cards for the children in my class, have family cards and have a list of things to look out for/buy. I've decided to buy a new tree this year. Ours in 8' tall and is incredibly wide so takes up half the living room. This year I will buy a narrower one. Do you have many commissions for Christmas cards? You really are very talented I'm surprised you're not designing your own to sell in packs. I rather like the ones that the Phoenix Card Co. sell and I think you're more talented than a lot of the artists they use. Have you ever approached them?

Sparkle, I've been cleaning too. I collect Devon pottery and it fills my deep window sill so I've taken everything off (over 100 pieces), polished them and the sill and put everything back. I also washed the conservatory floor. Not very interesting I know but it's the first time I've done both of those things since my diagnosis in February so I feel it's a bit of a turning point in returning to normality. I hope DH's presentation goes stunningly well tomorrow and he's headhunted.

I expect I'll be knackered later from all the cleaning but hopefully it will help me sleep a bit better than I have been. I know a lot of you ladies are having trouble sleeping and I am too. I will try reading at bedtime tonight and maybe a Horlicks too. Someone else mentioned that so it gave me the idea.

Driftwood999 · 09/11/2011 18:48

Figgyroll, I can identify with the cleaning stuff, it makes me feel better on some level to have tackled something like you did today, I'm sure it's a good sign of recovery. Devon pottery, is that the blue and white?

Figgyroll · 09/11/2011 18:59

Hi Drift, no the blue and white comes from Cornwall, I think. The Devon pottery is also known as motto-ware and is in browns, creams, greens and blue - I love it but have stopped collecting now. I have nowhere left to put it (got a couple of boxes in the loft as well as those on display) and the prices have rocketed over the last few years. I inherited a few pieces from my late mil and it started from there.

Driftwood999 · 09/11/2011 19:02

Figgy, that maybe be slipware, I'm going to look it up, sounds interesting.

Driftwood999 · 09/11/2011 19:11

Figgy - Oh yes, just looked at some fun examples, nice to choose an appropriate motto/piece for a present or collection. You are right, the blue & white is cornish. Yours are interesting and clean Smile

jchocchip · 09/11/2011 19:12

Waveto everyone. Machine break down today so a long wait for rads. Just waiting for the train home now. yawn.

topsyturner · 09/11/2011 19:19

Look at this !

www.rubyanded.co.uk/Gifts/Gifts-for-Women/Orchid-Pink-Bow-Ballerina

I want them , not strictly shoes . But still a little bit lovely Grin

KurriKurri · 09/11/2011 19:22

I think I had a piece of that pottery as a child Figgy - it was a little sugar bowl with 'help yoursel' tae sugar' on it IIRC, - I bought it in a charity shop Smile - No idea where it is now!

Hope you get home soon jane - you must be worn out.

Driftwood999 · 09/11/2011 19:39

jchocchip - Feeling for you, hope you're on the train by now and on your way home.

smee · 09/11/2011 20:33

Jane, hope you're home by now. Really boring when the elastic band breaks. Happened to me a few times. Sad

Dee, makes sense now. I suppose all you can do is ask the Oncologists for all the facts, then take a view. Great position to be in though. Smile

Fairies and Vikings?! Haven't had that one yet, OneinEight. Grin I think you're wise to take it your treatment one step at a time. Least you know what's next now though. I'd bet that helps a bit somehow.

Figgy, think you're right about the Teacher - she looked mighty stressed about it all. Daft really as the parents love the slip ups. If it was perfect it wouldn't be nearly as much fun. But stop the cleaning now. You need to rest a bit too you know.

Topsy, step away from the Ballet Slippers and e-the link to your DH. Grin My rads planning was strangely quite fun. Fantastic women who totally made me at ease and I only had to uncover where they intended to blast. Am sure you'll be similar.

Still got work to do, so apologies for missing some, but will you all please stop mentioning the 'C' word. I have my fingers in my ears going 'La, la, la, la, la.' and no that's not a carol.

KurriKurri · 09/11/2011 20:46

Ooh that's a nice site topsy, I want some of these - although the dog might try to worry my feet if I wore them, Grin

topsyturner · 09/11/2011 20:49

Am now trying to decide what to wear tomorrow .
Something that's easy to get out of and back into I suppose .
I never normally bother about what to wear to hospital , and considering all the stuff I have been through I really shouldn't be worried about clothes .
I am just really upset at the thought of baring my lopsided , heavilly scarred chest to strangers .

This will be the first time since my surgery that anyone will have seen me .
And I'm almost crying typing this , but I haven't shown anyone my chest yet .

So I think to myself that if I wear something nice tomorrow at least I will be outwardly confident .

Oh belt up topsy , there are far worse things out there .
