Glad our Scandinavian friends are safe, Drift Wink You sound remarkably perky post-op!

Hi Cakes - hope you're able to be productive on the work front.

Eeeekk! [sledgehammer between eyes emotion] Just had my histology letter (I requested it after clinic discussion) plus rads appointments letter and it's just given me such a wibble. Must be because I'm seeing it all written down in black and white.

Before I Google the numbers, anyone care to interpret:
"ER QS 8, PR QS 8 HER-" status negative".

I've been offered Tamoxifen so want to research it to see if the SEs are worth it. Been told it won't affect my overall survival rate, just tiny recurrance rate.

Ta.

DeeScent · 09/11/2011 11:42

Sorry, that should be HER-2

Driftwood999 · 09/11/2011 12:00

DeeScent -I can only surmise that ER is eostrogen receptive, but the QS may qualify that? Sound like you would not be offered herceptin as you are HER-2 negative. I watch with interest as you are ahead of me. All the best.

Driftwood999 · 09/11/2011 12:01

DeeScent, how long will the interval be, between surgery and beginning rads?

Hi cat64, glad to hear you are having a good moment, walking outside is something I look forward to. Would have ventured outside today but it is raining and grey. Did you have wle and snb? The bruising is coming out and reaches to my ribcage.

amberlight · 09/11/2011 12:17

QS is the "quick score" which ranges between 0 and 8. If I understand it correctly, 8 would mean you are ER positive and would respond to therapies for that. Same for PR.

Hi everyone!

(Note to self - put greeting first! Duh!)

Dee - I think the er 8 and pr 8 show that the lump is strongly receptive to oestrogen and progesterone. I seem to remember that the possible number is 0 to 8. I've started taking Tamoxifen (I'm 45) as I decided that for me the possible benefits were greater than the possible side effects and my gp did say that he would recommend changing to a different drug if I did suffer badly from the side effects.

Well done for your walk cat 64. I'm afraid I decided to have a bath and suddenly it was too late to go to knitting!

Must have lunch and do something before starting the trek to rads!

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/11/2011 12:33

Just back - only short wait today. Booked in for surgery on the first of December. Would prefer if it had been sooner but at least I can plan around that now. Was told I was both Er positive (7) and HER-2 positive but will worry about what that all means after surgery.

jchocchip · 09/11/2011 12:38

wle is wide local excision - lumpectomy

snb is sentinel node biopsy - testing the first lymph nodes in the system under your armpit.

DeeScent · 09/11/2011 12:40

Cat64 my poo was green! glad you enjoyed your walk. My onc has "prescribed 150 mins of exercise every week so am thinking about scenic power walks.

Amber, thanks I didn't know there was a range 0-8 - so I'm top of the scale then Wink (you need a sense of humour with all this rubbish don't you?!)

Jchocchip - that's interesting: would you be able to tell me the name of the alternative drug please? Have you found Tamoxifen okay - any SEs?

DeeScent · 09/11/2011 12:43

oneineight you've got smiliar histology to me. Best wishes for your op. I was just saying to dh over lunch that I detach from this whole business and can't think about it and then I have to face up to it and it really hits me

Going to be having rads right through Christmas then the possible 2 week slump just about for my birthday in January Sad.

Driftwood999 · 09/11/2011 12:47

Sorry for the jargon Blush

DeeScent · 09/11/2011 12:54

Drift the gap between surgery and rads is going to be about 6 weeks (5 weeks to the prelimnary the cat scan) May be a bit different where you are, I'm a bit Envy tha you have only one week till histology results - mine was 15 days!

I think we all end up using the abbreviations after a while.

Dee I'm still on the tamoxifen and I'm ok at the moment no significant side effects - been taking it for about 2 months. I think my gp referred to aromatose inhibitors but I'm not sure. I am sticking with the tamoxifen while I am ok with it.

Time for lunch and a Brew :)

KurriKurri · 09/11/2011 13:00

hello - all - I won't attempt to answer everyone's post - you move too quickly for an old gimmer like me Grin

just wanted to extend very warm welcome to Shron74, and hope everything goes well with your results, and if it doesn't we are here to help you through Smile - Waiting is horrible, and once you know what you are dealing with you can start to get your head round it a bit better.

Pink - sorry to hear about your mum, Sad hope she is OK.

waving and love to everyone else, Smile

Dee - I am going to take your oncs advice about diet and exercise on board. I've done an hour's zumba and an hour's yoga this morning (polishes halo Grin)
and am going to look up some low GI info on the internet.

DD comes home this evening, so I may hide the ironing and polish the dog. Grin

DeeScent · 09/11/2011 13:37

Okay Kurri - together we can look lovingly at the traditional English puddings...from afar!

Well done on the exercise. Your halo looks stunning
