Cakes - Tom and Barbara Goode eat your heart out!

x-posted, hello Kurri. Smile

KurriKurri · 07/11/2011 13:53

Found out this morning that a friend of ours has left her DH over the weekend. They'd been married about as long as we have, but apparently there had been probs. for some time (which they'd kept well hidden) and she'd had enough.

It feels strange when it happens to couples you know.

KurriKurri · 07/11/2011 13:54

hello Smee, I hope you are scouring t'interweb for piraty swimming gear Grin

SparkleRainbow · 07/11/2011 13:59

That happened to a friends of ours earlier this year, we were so surprised, they would have been a couple you would have held up as a good example of a good marriage! Unfortunately a few weeks later he committed suicide, leaving a 29 yr old widow, and a 2 yr old and 6 yr old girls. Sorry Kurri, for thinking of that, I am sure it will not happen to your friends.....didn't mean to be morbid.

Brew anyone

smee · 07/11/2011 14:12

Blimey.. Shock I can't imagine having the energy to ever split up from my DH. Not that I want to, but it must take an awful lot wrong to make you want to up sticks like that.

Kurri, they're making all the pirate accoutrement at school, though DS has mentioned his hat is cardboard. Methinks I sniff a design flaw.. Grin

SparkleRainbow · 07/11/2011 14:14

Grin at idea of soggy pirate hat!

SparkleRainbow · 07/11/2011 14:15

Finally the house has lost its chill as the fires have begun to heat it up, must go out now and collect more wood to keep them going...plus vague nagging feeling I forgot to feed to chickens this morning.....oops. Blush

topsyturner · 07/11/2011 15:24

I want to light a fire too , but have to clean the damn thing out of the last 2 days fires

Pork chops for dinner tonight , maybe with veggie rice .

Wondering how smee is going to waterproof a cardboard pirate hat Grin

KurriKurri · 07/11/2011 15:53

Oh your poor friends Sparkle - that's awful. Sad

Smee - I think there probably was a lot wrong - she had the full support of her teenage DC's, who have gone with her. All very sad, but shows you never really know what goes on in other people's marriages Sad

My internet has been playing up all afternoon - only just got back on Confused So I have made stewed apple ice cream (from a Nigel Slater recipe saw on TV the other day) - its just stewed apples and fresh custard (bought) mixed and frozen - smells good!

topsyturner · 07/11/2011 16:15

Well , you shamed me into it . I cleaned my fire out and have built and lit a new one . It's crackling away nicely .
Also have hoovered the floors and cleaned out my pan drawers , I now have room for my shiney new pans .

DS home from school and swimming lessons with very little trauma thank goodness . So thats another drama averted !

Cat - it makes me angry too, in many ways my dad is lucky he has mum going in each day and making sure he is warm, and has enough to drink (the doctor says he must have a certain amount so he doesn't get dehydrated, mum reckons he's not being given enough, because someone has to sit with him and help him, and unless she's there, it doesn't get done Sad). Also my mum is quite feisty and will stand up for him, but many people are over awed by health care professionals.

It's what used to be called a Cottage Hospital (think they might be community hosps. now) so largely people convalescing, or who need nursing care rather than major medical intervention.

I hate complaining about health care, because I've had excellent care, and I'm very grateful and appreciate how lucky we are to have the NHS. But I think old people are a particularly vulnerable group who often can't stick up for themselves.

amberlight · 07/11/2011 17:29

'afternoon all. Some will have seen the excitements of my day on my fb update. I've seen all the doctors in the UK today I think (OK, I exaggerate, but it can't be that far off). But at least they've now established that my high blood pressure is back to normal (hurrah) and my blood counts are all fine (good) and I am now flu jabbed, and they've cauterised my nose so it can't bleed again (in theory). All a lot for one small aspie.

And my radiotherapy planning is now set back by yet another week, with radiotherapy itself not starting until 22nd November Confused so that means I'll be finishing just before Christmas and it will definitely overlap dh's eye operations. Oh well. As long as we both get fixed.

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/11/2011 17:54

oh that's a bugger amber, but glad you got all the bits done today - fingers crossed for no more nose bleeds.

kk our little hospital in town is a community one- think they have recouperating patients in it-they do things like x rays and ultrasound and blood tests and my consultant comes over to do a breast clinic.

kurri...very sad about your friend just shows you never really know what goes on behind closed doors.that icecream sounds very nice not sure it would make the freezer as i love cold fresh custard far to much.

cat..thats just not on,when i had my op i found myself looking after a senile old lady who was just adorable but a little loud lol. but it wasnt nice to see her being ignored when she wanted to get in to her bed,go to the loo etc

topsy..glad to hear ds is ok.

amber...wow you have had a busy day, heres hoping no more nosebleeds.

had a nice long relaxing snooze on the settee, then the kids came home dd is upstairs blasting her music while she does homework.

ds came home with his loud head on blasting my ears bit hard to take when you first wake up,after making swear i wouldnt tell 2 of his friends mums he told me they had found a hole in the school fence and they had sneaked out at break time. now im left wondering if translated that means he sneaked out to i hope not.

smee · 07/11/2011 19:04

Oh Amber, hope they were all lovely to you. Sounds like no fun at all. Shame about the Rads delay, but needs must and all that.

Pink, am wishing you some peace and quiet from the DC.

Hope Drift's got through okay. Not sure when she's home, does anyone remember her saying?

Heating's finally come on. Hip-hip-hooray, for I only have one jumper on. Smile

jchocchip · 07/11/2011 21:46

Evening all, you've been busy today! I did get to Ilkley to see my friend, she had fallen full height of staircase and judging by photos of bruises she was lucky to come out of it with only a broken arm and chipped nose. She is much better now, one week after the event and her face which had looked like she had been mugged with big black eyes is just a yellow colour. Had a pleasant afternoon at her house before heading to rads.

Bought some little black leather ankle boots - bit boring compared to all the shoe porn on here but will be good for work when I go back...

Waves to lovely people. Like the idea of apple ice cream. sadly my culinary skills will only run to making a horlicks tonight - nighty night ;)

Iamseeingstars · 08/11/2011 00:39

Just a quick pop in to say Hi. Need some sleep so will be brief.

Just wanted to say Hello to everyone and to wish all the people all the best who are having horrible treatment in the next few days.

My treatment finally starts soon, but I have had lots and lots of tests that just keep coming back negative so I think things are good (apart from my blood problems) Got my CT scan report back and there are a few anomolies I am not happy about but they say it is nothing to worry about - uumm we'll see.

You all keep making me smile about the shoes. I havent been to the shops for ages!

Hugs to everyone

topsyturner · 08/11/2011 07:08

Morning All

Have been up half the night again . Seemed to have slipped back into a non sleeping pattern . Might have to curl up on the sofa when the DC go to school .
Think I am probably , subconciously , worrying about rads appointment on Thursday .
Also I have my 3 monthly CT next week . That's the one where they check for any spread , and that's always a worry .

Gaaah , cheer up woman . I am a mardy mare today , ignore me .

butterfliesinmytummy · 08/11/2011 07:21

Hi all

Sorry you're not sleeping Topsy - would a bedtime story about my new shoes help? They have finally arrived here and I'm wearing them (sitting down you understand, walking in them is a slight challenge but they're soooo pretty!) Hope you manage to nap today x

Have been thinking about Drift - went for a swim yesterday (but with the kids so mostly just messing around and not actually swimming). Hope she's fine and back on here soon x

Amber, glad they've solved the nosebleeds and good that rads are over by Xmas x

Stars, all the best for your treatment x

Hope you all have a great day, especially anyone who has appointments today x

topsyturner · 08/11/2011 07:28

Oooh Butterflies , you got them . I am so pleased for you . Are they as gorgeous in real life ? I wouldn't be able to walk in them , but I would be happy to just sit and stroke them Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/11/2011 07:34

butterflies -wow ! - you got them !! (virtual stroking of velvet by MAS)
topsy of course you must be anxious about CT scan and rads -that'd be normal...sorry you aren't sleeping.I should curl up and keep cosy on your sofa, with lots of fbs
Just woken the boy up ('shut up,go away'- charming- dh usually does it but he is lying in because he doesn't have to be in until 10) I wonder if they are going to be working in tents at his office ?
