Just came on here to say hello and found so many are having a terrible time;

ILGC - I can't say anything that will help but am thinking of you. Will your DD get treatment straightaway? Hugs and prayers.

Earth - thank goodness you've come through your experience -it sounds a nightmare.

Others and new people - sorry I only pop on here once a week but I was frquent flyer for a year, so hi from me, and good luck with your treatments. The lady with leukaemia - is there an on-line leakaemia society that would offer a forum for people who've had similar treatment to you? Everyone on here will be great but you might also want contact with people with the same condition?

Hello to everyone. My DD has arrived today so spending time with her over the next few days.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/09/2011 23:08

waves to SR ! Have a lovely time with dd.

Thanks for all the caring comments. This is the best thing about this forum because everyone can empathise with the feelings created by a cancer diagnoses. My baby girl starts treatment on Monday, it will be gruelling chemo and radio but she is a stroppy little madam which I feel will help. She has decided to stay on her course and continue her studies which I think is fab but a little unrealistic but I will support her 100%. I have rented her a flat for next year, she will be treated where she is studying, which is a little more luxurious than the place she was planning on renting. Her two friends will move in with her and I have said I will top up their rent so they don't pay more than they expected. They are just pleased to have a bathroom each!!!!
Thinking of all of you and wishing you well

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/09/2011 08:51

she sounds wonderful ILGC and that's lovely that she has such strong and loving support from you. Will be thinking of her and of you.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 10/09/2011 11:26

She sounds a great girl ILGC, it's lovely that you've been able to rent her somewhere so she can be a as comfortable as possible. I'm sending loads of good thoughts to you all, especially for her treatment on Monday.

SR, - have a great weekend with DD, - has she started her new job yet?

Waves to everyone else for a good relaxing weekend Smile

Figgyroll · 10/09/2011 12:58

Waves back to MAS. Smile

She certainly sounds like a strong girl, ILGC. The flat sounds a lovely idea and it will be reassuring for you knowing she is sharing with friends and they will keep a close eye on her. I've been thinking of you all since yesterday and what rum deal you've been dealt this last year. It's so unfair.

Hello SR, hope you're having a sooper dooper time with your DD.

Did you get your tea and biccies, Topsy.

I've been for an extra long walk with our dawg this morning wearing my new grey wig and it was so funny approaching people who didn't recognise me until I said hello and beamed at them. Everyone seems to like it (or are they just being nice? Grin. It was lovely walking around without all that surplus fluid - no sloshing. Grin

Hope you're all having a lovely Saturday.

Figgyroll · 10/09/2011 13:08

Waves to KK, too. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/09/2011 13:51

figgy -have seen your fb profile pic and it looks lovely- very chic !

OP posts:
topsyturner · 10/09/2011 15:18

Even better than tea and biccies , DH has taken me out for lunch .
Am waiting for my meal now . That will save me cooking tonight .

I saw the FB pics too figgy . Your new wig is lovely .
I still can't wear mine , get far too hot .

pinkstarlight · 10/09/2011 15:50

topsy.. i use to lose my voice and have bad headaches if i was slightly neutrophenic, wonder how your blood is.

earth..must have been so scarey for your family i know when i had my op i went down at 3.30pm and still hadnt returned by 11pm,in reality i was fine but when i first came round i had breathing problems not that i could remember but the doctor diagnosed me as having a chest infection and ordered other tests because my heart was racing.my family had to deal with snappy nurses who would only tell them there had been complications.

kurri...wow fainting hope your ok. glad to hear your mum has support and with a bit of luck your dad will threaten to shoot them lol.

sparkle.. im another one suggesting you get a second oppinion thats really not bloody good enough.

figgy..not surprised you lost 3ib i cant believe they left you so long before draining you, i bet your feeling so much better for that.

lottie..glad to hear everything is ok and now at least your minds at rest.

ILGC...bless your daughter she sounds a strong determined character and pleased that you managed to find your dd somewhere better to live (know all about uni digs having a daughter at uni)just wanted to wish her all the luck for next week.

went and had my seroma drained again yesterday feel so much better for it,heres hoping it starts slowing down soon.had a funny turn yesterday suddenly went dizzy, had a terrible hot flush, sudden headache and felt sick it passed but no idea what that was about.

its such a nice day here today very very windy but a loverly warm wind, been sitting in the garden chatting enjoying it.

topsyturner · 10/09/2011 16:34

Oooh pink , doesn't sound good , your funny turn . Take it easy for the rest of the day !

And I shant be happy if I am neutrophenic , I am meant to be having chemo on wednesday . If my bloods are down on Monday it will get delayed .
Ah well , what happens , happens .
I think if I have chemo this wednesday then I will be due for another course on my birthday , so maybe a delay wouldn't be a bad thing Grin

Hubby and DC have taken pig/dog out for walkies .
I am enjoying the peace and quiet .

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/09/2011 17:39

oh pink- funny turn isn't v nice - take care and rest.
topsy- hope whatever the best outcome for having chemo comes to pass,if that makes any sense.
Have sorted out loads of stuff for charity shop - lots of jewellery, hair things, bangles and then went through all of ds's stuff- masses of clothes there- am quite exhausted . The bags are really heavy and there's nowhere to hide them. Still got my stuff to do.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 10/09/2011 17:49

I bet your wig looks fab Figgy, great that the sloshing has stopped Grin

Pink, - the dizzy turn doesn't sound fun Sad - perhaps it was something to do with the hot flush - they are the devil's own work!

topsy, hope you are feeling a it better today and resting up like a good girl Grin

Well done MAS - I need a good sort out too, I'll have a go tomorrow since you've inspired me Smile

Everyone in world that I know decided to phone me today, - I have done almost nothing, I'd finish on the phone to one person, and another would ring straight away. Nice to hear from them all but.....grrr Grin

SparkleRainbow · 10/09/2011 18:58

I should be finishing off dinner....bad mother Grin but they are watching a film, and have been filled up with Fat Boy Snacks.

Pink - you take care, your funny turn doesn't sound good.

Kurri - you fainting is not good either!

ILGC you are a super mum to an amazing girl. I will be thinking of her on Monday. Smile She sounds like a fighter which has to be good.

SR have fun with your DD.

Lottie Grin at breaking the m,achine, I hope you are feeling better now that is over.

Some good news here...very surprising, Ds's disabled blue badge arrived in the post today, only three days after I posted it, which seems amazing in tiself, never mind the fact that they just issued one without the normal fight I have to give. I think it might be because I wrote on the form that the LA are paying for 1 to 1 support, PDSS and combined LA and NHS funding....so they didn't even bother to argue with themselves. That should make getting him to the hospital easier, and maybe cheaper...the small things can make a big difference.

KurriKurri · 10/09/2011 19:24

Hurray for blue badge Sparkle Smile I wish you hadn't mentioned FBS though

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/09/2011 19:30

hooray for blue badge sparkle ! FBS- we haven't spoken of those for ages ! I had a few cracker things watching Strictly and will have some crisps later before supper (and Wine natch)
KK - clearing out is very refreshing though I sometimes get upset at some things going -I have various items of clothing of ds's ferretted away as reminders of babyhood and little boyhood Grin I have an adorable pair of dungarees with cats on which he wore when he was tiny and the first little teeny things I bought him in baby Gap -sigh.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 10/09/2011 19:41

I had my dinner in front of the TV while watching Strictly, I made a sort of big puff pastry shell and filled it with roasted veg. it was yum, and for pud damsons, blackberries and creme fraiche also yum. maybe not so good for my waistline though - I'll have to do a long walk tomorrow!

I know what you mean about baby clothes, I kept a pair of DS's baby dungarees - they were blue with flowers all over - very hippyish Grin I couldn't bear to part with them.

Figgyroll · 10/09/2011 22:53

Great news re Blue Badge, Sparkles. We had one for several years for DS2 but he's not eligible now. Confused

I love taking bags of stuff to charity shops - always come home with a few books though. DS1 has been today and bought lots of books for his Year 5 class - apparently the books in his book box at school are dire and he's thrown a load out. He's got loads of good ones for between 20p and 40p.

Your dinner sounds yummy, KK. I had a Waitrose curry for one - DH and DS2 were at football today.

pinkstarlight · 10/09/2011 23:04

topsy..they use to make a big deal over my blood, make me have it taken again, debate then still let me go ahead with the chemo.

mas...you sound like you have been very busy.aww at you coming across baby things, cant believe sometimes how fast time has gone.

sparkle...good news that you got your blue badge quickly and without any problems.

kurri...you might be right about the hot flush my face was dripping .forgot all about strictly shame wanted to watch as harry judd is doing it, met him once he is a real sweetheart so friendly and had loads of time to chat and is way much better looking in real life has the most amazing eyes.sigh.

had a real chilling day in a quiet house ,just what i needed and a nice doze on the settee.bliss

KurriKurri · 10/09/2011 23:24

Pink - Strictly is repeated tomorrow afternoon Smile - Harry Judd did look very sweet. It was only an introductory programme though - just pairing them up with their partners, it doesn't start properly for 3 weeks.

Waitrose curry is good too figgy, - I like their mushroom risotto, I have it as a treat when everyone is out, because the others don't like it Grin

night night all x

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/09/2011 09:37

he was very sweet wasn't he,and kind of nervous ! (I haven't a clue about things like McFly !)

OP posts:
pinkstarlight · 11/09/2011 15:42

mas...with having a mcfly obsessed 15 year old dd we have been to see them live a few times must admit really enjoyed watching them live they put on a great show and yes im one of the embarrising mums dancing away.we met him and danny who is also really nice, but harry was so sweet with my daughter posed for pics then called her back and asked if she would like more pictures taken with him he also told her he loved her bless him.

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/09/2011 19:53

Waving to all. No time this weekend. Been a blur of one thing after another. All very social and lovely, but am a bit in need of another weekend to recover iyswim.

ILGC, brilliantly practical idea to get the flat for DD. Must be a huge help to know she has such good friends to support her too. How far away from where she's studying are you? Hope it's not a schlep. Will be thinking of you both tomorrow.

Lottie, YEAY and YEAY again!! So pleased you're clear. Smile

Kurri, Pink, Topsy no more fainting and such like please. We need a positive, healthy week this week, so I am banning all ailments/ side effects and lurgies.

  • Kurri, what happened with your mum's neighbour and the tree?? Hope your sis managed to steer it towards a good solution.

Figgy, how much fluid?! Blimey. Hope it slows down soon. Mine was nowhere near that bad, and was uncomfortable, so yours must be extraordinary. Sad

Hope you're feeling okay-ish Earth and the bruising's gone down.

Got to go and get some food ready, so am waving to MAS, Cakes, SR and all others. Remember, no lurgies, SE or any other nasties this week. 'tis the law. Grin

smee · 11/09/2011 19:59

Ooh, just noticed MAS's post. Topsy, really good luck with tomorrow. Hope you get the best of news. Smile
