Might have to look on iPlayer. Got a friend staying tonight, so it might be a bit rude to watch cooking rather than actually feed him. Grin

KurriKurri · 20/09/2011 17:04

I expect it feels pretty overwhelming at the moment Earth, when you keep getting new things thrown at you. But it does sound good that chest wall is clear. As the others have said, not everyone feels sick on chemo, and for those that do, they are usually very prompt in sorting you out. There are side effects, but they can generally give you something to help with different ones.

Was £450 what your car cost MAS Shock we don't need those sort of nasty surprises.
I haven't got over Jason being kicked out of GBBO yet Sad I don't know who I want to win now, - possibly that slightly mad woman who makes huge pies and experiments with stuff. (Mary-Ann I think she's called)

Amber, get back on the sofa you irrepressible woman. Grin

Hope DS came home with plenty of cash from the BOE Smee, optimistic lad Grin
Forgot to answer your question about DD, - she hasn't heard anything yet from the sorting job, she's looking at one on a mushroom farm, but she hates mushrooms, and is not sure she can face working with them Grin

Munch sounds lovely topsy, I love Thai food.

KurriKurri · 20/09/2011 17:05

munch? ha - lunch obviously ,

amberlight · 20/09/2011 17:29

It is true. I confess all. I went to work. It was me. I was bad. I am trying to be good but it's so hard!!

But now I'm back on the sofa and contemplating what to cook for tea. And whether I can persuade ds and his mates to cook it for me. And what the result of that would be Shock

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2011 17:37

naughty amber..
yes £££ for the car Sad
Mary Anne is the most inventive, interesting cook i think..though I do like Janet. Holly is just a bit too desperate to win.

dh's brother once worked in a chicken factory - eeeewww
dh worked behind the bar at the Miner's Welfare and loathed it.
i once worked as a home help -some of the filth was unbelievable (didn't have ocd then!!) One dear old man had compacted crumbs like a carpet on his floor. Hope dd gets the post job- that sounds nice -I would be wondering about all the mail and where it was going etc...

OP posts:
smee · 20/09/2011 17:56

I have a friend who worked in a chicken factory too. Definitely eeeewww. Many moons ago, I was sacked from Spud-u-Like. Involved accidental dropping of large vat of sour cheese and chives all over the rather glum manager and hysterical laughter; somehow I just couldn't stop. Blush

Kurri, mushrooms sounds not like her ideal then. Has she stopped lifting the dog? Grin

Amber, demand that they cook for you. Shout BREAST CANCER loudly and threaten to show them your scars if they refuse. Grin

DS has no cash from BofE, but a gold pen, a badge and a postcard, so he's happy. Smile

amberlight · 20/09/2011 18:02

Smee, that'd certainly get them moving!! Shock Grin

smee · 20/09/2011 18:24
Grin
topsyturner · 20/09/2011 18:32

Aaagh Dagnammit !
Just remembered I have to go to a curiculum meeting for DS at 7.30 .
Sigh .
Didn't make dinner either .
Feeling decidedly unmotivated this evening .
It is allowed to have a "meh" moment every so often isn't it ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2011 18:35

course you are allowed topsy

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 20/09/2011 19:15

Definitely allowed topsy, hope the meeting goes well, and you don't feel too tired afterwards.

Chicken factory would a disgusting job I imagine. Mushrooms wouldn't bother me though Grin DD does seem to have given up dog lifting for the time being (much to the dog's relief Grin)

We keep having little power cuts here, - I think there's a storm brewing.

I've just managed to finish The Millstone by M. Drabble for my book club tomorrow (first meeting for me), I can't quite decide what I feel about it, - but that probably means it's a good book for discussion.

cupcaked · 20/09/2011 22:13

Earth, I second all that has been said about chemo. The worst thing about it was the anticipation. Once you have your first one, it's just head down and get on with it, and it is done before you know it. Anti sickness tablets are very effective these days. So try not to worry too much, tho I know that is easier said than done.

Topsy, ditto with the sore veins and they definitely need to change veins next time or u will end up scarred like I was. If that is the cancer centre in Belfast they really should know better. What p is your son in? I have one in p5 and I have his curriculum meeting on Thursday. It is the time of year for them, I guess! Oldest son is filling in UCAS forms which makes me feel very old :(

I am starting at a new book club soon and have topic the book and do the hostessing. Am not very sure what is involved. Anyone got a nice easy short interesting book they could recommend? Doesn't sound like The Millstone did it for you, KK!

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2011 22:22

cupcaked- we usually have plenty of crisps and wine at our bookgroups. The person who chooses the book usually hosts and leads the discussion/asks questions, though it can all be very informal. Am now trying desperately to think of a recent book I liked - I think To Kill a Mockingbird was fab- lots to talk about there.

OP posts:
topsyturner · 20/09/2011 22:23

cupcaked - tonights was for DS who has just started Grammar school . But I also have one for DD on Thursday , who is in P5 .
Are we going to be at the same school as each other ? Nodding sagely and discussing fruit shoots , pom bears and "nice ham" ???

Wouldn't surprise me , this whole country is like a village Grin

topsyturner · 20/09/2011 22:31

I read , a lot . But I always feel like my selection of books isn't worthy enough . I read for pleasure , not for education .
Hence my book shelves look like a "how to" guide for serial killers Grin
Love a good thriller , not too hot on chick lit .

Have cheered up since earlier . Could be to do with the empty chocolate wrapper beside me .
I was browsing song lyrics on the interweb earlier , and decided to make a play list for my funeral .
Before you all shout at me , it's not as bad as it sounds Grin
I had a close friend die just over a year ago (so well before my diagnosis) and I remember listening to the music at her funeral and thinking she would have hated her DHs choices . And I told my DH that if he picked any bloody Celine Dionne for me that I would come back and haunt him !
So even though I was quite enjoying myself by induldging in a bit of morbidity , it kind of saddened me a bit .

If anyone is interested I would like Rainy Night in SoHo by The Pogues .

KurriKurri · 20/09/2011 22:45

CC - The Millstone is a short quick read, and I didn't dislike it, it was interesting and quite thought provoking, but I'm not sure if I liked any of the characters Grin
I'll let you know tomorrow what they pick for next month.

topsy - there was a thriller mentioned on the book thread the other day called ''The Black House' by Peter May, - it sounded good. I quite like the Shetland ones by Ann Cleeves ( detective called Jimmy Perez), my main reading matter is thrillers, - nowt wrong with that Grin

Funeral song - I'm having Watching The Wheels Go Round, John Lennon, 'cos its all about giving up the rat race and spending time on the simple, important things in life.

I love the Pogues - I was listening on You Tube the other day to Shane McGowan singing Maggie May by Rod Stewart - he starts it 'Fuck off Maggie, I think I've got something to say to you....' Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2011 22:49

I often think of funeral songs ! My mum wants Aaron Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man.

OP posts:
topsyturner · 20/09/2011 22:50

Aah , gotta love Shane don't you ?
The man has the soul of a poet Grin
Rainy Night in SoHo was the first dance at our wedding .

< scuttles off to have a look on Amazon for kks book reccomendation >

topsyturner · 20/09/2011 22:53

Oh thank goodness mas , was thinking there might be a huge hammering at my front door cos mn had sent the Samaritans round to stage an intervention Grin

You and kk have made me feel a lot better about my morbidness !

cupcaked · 20/09/2011 23:20

I think it's only natural and a healthy enough thing to think of, doesn't mean you intend needing them soon. Wouldn't scare my family with that sort of talk just now tho!

Thanks for the book club thoughts. I am much more thriller or crime fiction too, do not like chick lit either. To kill a mocking bird was brill, read it ages ago. Doesn't have to be a new release or anything current does it?

Topsy, we daren't talk schools as everyone will think N Ireland just has a main street! (But my big boys are at MCB and my little one's school is about half a mile from it..)

POM bears? Read it first as porn bears, scratched head a bit at that :o Tho none the wiser now! Will look out for them on Thurs nite.

pinkstarlight · 21/09/2011 00:03

earth...thats great news about the chest wall,if its any consolation chemo flies by really fast i found waiting for the chemo to start terrifying so no wonder your feeling apprehensive.

mas...how much!!!phewww

amber..your so naughty

smee..ha ha bet your glad you got that manager .

topsy...im sure we have all thought about our funeral song at some point but must admit i like the idea of the shane mcgowan song,i can just imagine at my funeral peoples shocked faces lol. my dads song was m people "search for the hero" its funny because when i hear that it always lifts my spirits.

kurri...ooh you belong to a book club, quite fancy joining one of those.

am i mad im sat waiting for the cat to come in as i dont want to leave her out in the rain, thing is she thinks its funny to charge round the garden because she knows i want her to come in.honestly you would think im talking about a kitten but shes almost 12.

off to my radiotheraphy planning appointment first thing in the morning,so pleased the treatment is nearly all over.just think im going to have hair, nails and hopefully energy by christmas.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2011 07:41

oh my message went...
Was saying that I think it's fine to do older books for book group- we've had Wuthering Heights (didn't like) and i chose Cold Comfort Farm once.
Notes from an Exhibition is a good book (Patrick Gale - really like him)

Celeste wilfully stays out looking for frogs -try to get her in as it gets darker-usually have to rattle the katzinis -she comes in for me,but not dh or ds.
Lots of good luck today for rads planning pink - nearly done !

OP posts:
topsyturner · 21/09/2011 08:18

cupcaked - but NI does only have 1 main street , and everybody is related to each other Grin
It is blardy spooky though isn't it , the way everybody knows someone who knows you in this town ? Can't get away with anything Grin
I am not a native born , am a Londoner by birth . But DH is a Belfast boy , and they all have to come home to their Mammys at some point don't they ?
So it always amazes me everytime I meet someone new here that they can connect to DH or his family in less than 2 moves !
DS goes to a Grammar on the Ravenhill Road , and DD goes to a junior off Saintfield road .
Think I have deduced your 2 (dons deerstalker and lights up pipe) . If your junior is the one I think it is , then DH went there . Unless it's the all girls prep down the road , then whoops , DH definitely didn't go there

No more funeral planning today ladies . (although I have to let it be known that there are to be no carnations as floral tributes . They share a special corner of my room 101 along with Celine !)

Very blustery here , but still dry .
Think I will have a lazy pj day and catch up on some tv I sky+ .
Watched GBBO last night mas . Some magnificent croquembouche eh ? Line of the programme from Sue Perkins ? "30 minutes till your croque is in my bouche" . Love her !

Yikes , my posts are getting longer and longer . Maybe I should start a blog instead to off load my rambling ................

topsyturner · 21/09/2011 08:19

pink - good luck for todays appointment .
