I'd love a tea too, thanks Amber. Smile I'm knackered after work this morning. I had to hunt down some bags of clay and our art room is on the third floor or school - by my fourth visit I was huffing and puffing. Luckily the rest of the morning was mostly spent sitting.

Love those earrings, MAS. I'm going to go for the more dangly styles rather than my safe gold studs especially as my hair is so short now. (Although it seems to be growing quite quickly at the moment).

Cakes, your specs sound fab. I wish I could experiment with colour - I just have a black pair and a brown pair (although they are 'designer' styles Grin) Sorry your lunch was a disaster - has the taste gone yet?

Topsy, don't forget - wine counts as a one-a-day too Grin

I'm another one watching Downton Abbey. Am I the other only with a terrible urge to utter the words 'Master Bates' whenever Mr. Bates is mentioned? No? Just me being juvenile then Blush Did you think it was odd that the officer chap on the front line got 'home leave' right in the middle of raging battles and carnage? Did that really happen in the trenches during the war?

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2011 16:47

oh yum topsy..can I come ?
Poor dd Cakes -sweet of her.
Car is staying overnight in car hospital so I have the shiny car until tomorrow- it has a tiny bit of fuel in,must put £5 of diesel in tomorrow in order to get back to the garage.

OP posts:
janemacer · 19/09/2011 16:57

Lindt chocolate - my favourite! Maybe virtual chocolate is all I should have, ever. I have a serious amount of weight to lose... Eyes,- oh no yet another thing to worry about. Haven't had mine tested for about 3 years...

janemacer · 19/09/2011 16:59

Silly road works mean there is no water in the taps in our road. Jacket spuds for tea instead of boiled, and sweetcorn instead of carrots then...

cakesandale · 19/09/2011 17:10

all your tea efforts sound lovely to me! It's pasta bake here with leftover chicken from last night. And I have become very tight with gas and electricity so I am simultaneously cooking some gammon mow for later in the week. I know it's tight but specs are pricey!

hope you don't really have to put diesel in the shiny car MAS. Isn't there a downhill route back to the garage if you keep going left or something?

Wine counts as one of your five a day? Oh happy day!!! Grin

smee · 19/09/2011 17:50

Lindt, mmmm.... No sign of any chocolate here - I knew there was something missing. Madness subsiding though the cat's looking a bit odd. He's been 'helping' the builders paint, and is sporting some rather funky stripes. Hmm

Builders are painting the outside or our house. We were shamed into it by the Housing Association who own lots of the houses on our road and did them all a few months ago. Ours really was shoddy and I banned DH from doing it, but we're now even more broke. Sad

Lovely earrings, MAS. Really like those. What other sites do you use on-line? I didn't know that one for starters.

Again too much to catch up on properly, but Kurri, hope your wrist feels better soon and GP has a plan for it which doesn't involve anti-i's.

Amber, I stapled you to the sofa woman!

Janemacer, wishing you water soon!

Figgy, I am ever so impressed that you manage to work at a school all day. I worked throughout, but was at home so it was much easier.

Earth, mighty glad that the fluid's calming. Hope it continues. Smile

Cakes, your daughter's very sweet - how kind of her to try at least. How's she getting on with the little thug in her class? Glasses sound excellent + what's wrong with stern? Grin

Tea here is vegetable couscous tagine type thing. DS already moaning! I think he'd like your house, Topsy. Poor boy doesn't get much meat as DH and I are both veggie.

smee · 19/09/2011 17:53

Yawn filled question for anyone who might know such things, but what do you insure your house contents for? I think we're under-insured at £30,000? DH thinks it's fine - he probably has a point as a fair amount of our furniture was found in skips, or handed down, but still. Any wisdom welcomed!

KurriKurri · 19/09/2011 18:02

How sweet DD is Cakes, - I think new girl might spend a lot of time crying if she's always so rude.

Pain about the water Jane, hope it returns soon.

House painting sounds quite a big job Smee, at least they are outside not in.

All these dinners sound lovely, we are having macaroni cheese (yes, I know, you lot can only dream of such luxury Grin)

Apparently I have the concisely named 'De Quervain's Tenosynovitis', I've got some gel to rub in (which the chemist won't have in until tomorrow when the stage coach rolls in) and if its not better in 2 weeks I got to make an appointment with Dr W who will stick needles in me ' because its a bit fiddly and he's been trained in orthopedics' Shock

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2011 18:26

excellent name KK - oh I do hope the gel works so you don't need pins stuick in (is it a voodoo doctor ?) Our house outside was painted about 4 years ago (white) and is starting to look a bit tatty (though not as tatty as next door) We had the most lovely decorator who has also done our hall and landing -he was painting it when I had my dx and was so sweet.
We do the easy painting bits to save money !
Supper tonight is scrambled eggs with cheese on toasted bagels and salad.
Smee- Plumo has lovely stuff but bloody expensive (earrings were in the sale !)I find loads of nice jewellery things on folksy or etsy. If you look on my pinterest site I've posted lots of things I've discovered. I don't wear much jewellery- usually earrings,a couple of silver rings (plain) and my wedding ring and a gold vermeuil (sp?) lotus ring - and I am very fond of friendship bracelets

KurriKurri · 19/09/2011 18:44

Oh I like the idea of pinterest, - it looks fun. So glad to see you have Harry The Dirty Dog on there -it was a major favourite with both my children Smile

Not a voodoo doctor (At least I hope not !), I'm OK with needles so not too worried if it comes to that.

amberlight · 19/09/2011 19:29

Smee, I have been almost good today, honest Grin
Household insurance - absolutel minimum is £50k to be honest, unless you're living in a studio flat.

smee · 19/09/2011 19:43

My Kurri, you do so like to be different. What on earth is De Quervain's thingy? Confused

MAS, I want your supper!! I could never do that as my rather contrary male folk don't like eggs. Thanks for link - I will mooch round. On first glance it looks like I'll want at least half of it. Grin

We do most house things ourselves too. DH is very good at it, I'm more gung-ho (!), but the painting would have taken years if we'd done it. They're nearly done and strangely have realised I will miss them! Hated having them round at first, as scaff's front and back and you never knew which window they'd peer into. They're a trio of Poles - very friendly father, son and another who is rather taciturn, but beautifully named (Raphael). They have eaten the entire biscuit barrel several times over, trashed our teeny garden and educated DS into the ways of climbing scaffold (heck!). They make me laugh though and are good to natter to over coffee. DH thinks it's an expensive way to find someone for me to talk to. Grin

topsyturner · 19/09/2011 19:48

Fnar Fnar at Master Bates . Would have joined in earlier but didn't want to sound imature .............. Grin

amber has not been good today , I have it under good authority that she left her sofa today ! < Not so secret facebook stalker >

I too am loving mas pinterest posts . You always like such lovely things .

kk - now that sounds like a great name ! A friend and I have a running game where we have to think of the most bizarre sounding illnesses and pretend we have them . Bit silly , but heh , I have Cancer and she has MS , so we gotta get the giggles where we can Grin

Is the water back on jane ? Will have to drink wine or beer instead of Brew for the rest of the evening I think . Everyone knows you shouldn't use tap water for at least 24 hours after a supply interruption . Grin

Dinner was lovely , even if I do say so myself . I made up some garlic herby butter for the veg , cos Cancer sufferers require extra fat and calories .
I am sure I read that somewhere Grin

DH is definitely after something , either that or he is morphing into a Feeder ! He came home from work today with chocolate trifle .
Doc Martin and chocolate trifle , what more could a girl want ?

smee · 19/09/2011 19:51

x-posted Amber - thanks for that. Good to hear I don't need the staple gun and I will delight in telling DH he's wrong. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2011 19:55

The contents insurance thing- I think we probably undervalue the amount of stuff we have/would need to replace -we did try to work it out recently, can't remember what we decided on.
Pinterest is fun -it's a good way of recording things you like, I think also if you pick from the etsy or folksy shops it gives the person who designed them a bit of free advertising !
Hope you have water by now jane !

Its an inflammation of the tendon sheath Smee,

My Uncle was Polish, we absolutely adored him as children, he was such fun, and he used to bring us fabulous presents back from his travels (he was a courier(of the travel agent variety, not drugs!)

topsy - I freely donate my silly named disease for the purposes of your game Grin

Talking of ridiculous games, if DD and I think the other one has said something stupid, we wave our arms from side to side, rolling our eyes, snapping our fingers and shouting 'sarcastic crab' Grin - come to think of it, that's probably how I hurt my hand!

We also have another game called 'two old men in the street' - but I'll spare you the details!

topsyturner · 19/09/2011 20:16

Hahahahaaa ! Sarcastic Crab , would pay good money to hear you explain that one to your GP Grin

amberlight · 19/09/2011 20:18

Stalked on FB? Shock
Well I never! Grin

janemacer · 19/09/2011 20:25

We have water! Nice men came and mended the water main - broken as the new gas main was being put in. Came back into the house to the sound of running water - dd had not turned tap off when no water came out... And we are on a meter :)

Smee - hope your cat is ok. Ours likes to help with art homework and has had yellow and green paws...

smee · 19/09/2011 21:44

Yeay for water! Yes thanks, janemacer, Cat very much likes his stripes. He is a dope - he's been following them up and down the scaffolding and sitting next to them watching as they paint. Smile

Bows in deference to Kurri. How very impressive. Grin I like the sound of your game. Did DD get her post job?

topsyturner · 20/09/2011 09:09

Morning All

Sunny day here today , much better than yesterdays constant rain and fog (yes fog !)
DC are both at school . Pig/Dog is upside down in his bed .
All is well with topsys world .

Plans for the day ?
Today I shall be a Lady Who Lunches . My very good friend will be coming to pick me up later and I think we will be dining on Thai food .

Chemo question of the day .
The arm that I have my chemo in is constantly sore . Not very sore , but more tender I would say . It's not tender in any specific area , more wrist to elbow . It is tender to the touch and if I have to stretch my arm to reach out for something , it is quite twingy .
Normal or Freak of Nature ? Grin

cakesandale · 20/09/2011 09:27

Ooh ooh I know the answer to this on, topsy

It is likely to be the veins reacting to the chemo as it goes in and getting hard and not very flexible. Tell them at your next chemo because they should probably try for a different vein. It lasts for a few months from memory, but it does stop being tender (not sure if it ever becomes much of a vein again though, TBH Hmm

Iamseeingstars · 20/09/2011 09:32

Great to hear your water is back on.

Topsy, have a fantastic day with your friends.

cakesandale · 20/09/2011 09:36

smee - thanks for asking, dd and the thuglet in her class seem to be avoiding each other mostly at the mo, which is fine by me. There was a minor incident where said thuglet started shoving and acting up a bit aggressively, but the teacher saw her and made her move somewhere else. Interestingly, the socially challenged new girl has made at least a temporary pairing with the thug, so I think we have her measure already Hmm. How's ds doing with the thuglet in his class?

I am envious of your decorators, both for their social value and for the nice shiny new house. I painted our office door at the weekend: I don't think it's my forte. It looks OK, apart from the midge that got stuck in the paint and died right in the middle of the main panel. I shall have to give it another coat Angry

We are also broke. I think dd's many classes aren't helping - swimming, football, tae kwon do (plus all the gradings -she's going for a green belt next week) and now guitar - it all adds up to very light pockets Sad

KK - that is a very posh sounding affliction. I hope the gel stuff works. Is there a known cause (apart from sarcastic crabbing, of course)?

Enjoy your lunch topsy, and have a good day, all.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2011 10:11

have a lovely lunch topsy (envious)
Grey and cold here- am waiting for man to ring about the car...took dh for a spin in the courtesy car yesterday evening -he put £10 worth of diesel in so I'll make it back to the garage, though I thought it a little excessive.
Hope everyone else is fine and dandy.
Don't forget GBBO tonight - puddings !!
