Incidentally, I heard the other day that it is vital to get your eyes tested every year if you have had chemo and/or tamoxifen as both can cause eye problems. May be worth bearing in mind

topsyturner · 19/09/2011 14:11

Yes , apparently chemo affects the eyes . I think (could be wrong though) that you can get free eye tests when undergoing chemo .
And the opticians say you have to keep coming back every time you notice a difference in your vision as it can change a lot during treatment .
I have noticed that I have started squinting a certain things recently , so I really must get my eyes checked again .

Do you just sometimes feel that you can't be arsed with having yet another part of your body poked at by a medical professional ?

cakesandale · 19/09/2011 14:16

Oh yes, absolutely - and I can't be arsed to stick my hand in my pocket again either and there's no point because it's empty

KurriKurri · 19/09/2011 14:21

Hello all, MN seems to have changed all my settings over night, so I'm trying to get it all back to the way I like it. Not quite there yet!

Earth - what a rotten time you are having at the moment. I'm not surprised you feel fed up and tearful. But it good that you had a leak free night, maybe it has started to settle down, fingers crossed for you.

Good luck at work Figgy, - sorry about the quiz, my DH is the type who would want to complain too Grin

topsy - ketchup def. one of your five a day, as is chocolate with raisins in it, a fruit salad chews, and foam bananas Grin.

Glasses sound nice Cakes, - I didn't know about yearly eye tests, I must be due one soon, although my sight is roughly normal for distance stuff now, - I was very short sighted but old age long sightedness has made me not need glasses except for computer. last time I failed the field of vision test twice in a row, but they said it was OK Confused

MAS, just as well to cancel the smear, you don't want to have to go through it all twice because the sample is no good. School text books are hideously expensive aren't they?

CC - I saw Downton Abbey, I'd missed about half of the last series, but I picked it up and really enjoyed it. DD is a big fan. I love Mr Bates Smile

waving to everyone else hope all is well. I went to yoga this morning, then did a market research thing - I had to eat some pretty disgusting ice cream, and answer questions 'What did you like about this IC?' - 'Nothing it was foul'
I got £3 worth of Love to shop vouchers

cakesandale · 19/09/2011 14:32

That field of vision thing is odd, isn't it? I think mine wasn't entirely satisfactory judging from the mumbling but they didn't take any action - also Confused

Downton Abbey is just my kind of thing for a Sunday night - looks nice and not too taxing. Mr Bates is good, especially in the hat that makes his ears stick out Grin I think Matthew has lovely eyes too

How will you spend your winnings then?

cakesandale · 19/09/2011 14:34

You can get an enormous quantity of Haribo for £3

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2011 14:42

I rather like Mr Bates
Tamoxifen can cause eye probs (oh joy)- cataracts I think- and is not good for contact lens wearers. I get mine tested every other year I think (for sight) but have lens checks every 6 months (if I remember) I'm on an opticians scheme thing,so you get the 2 appointments included.
Your specs sound lovely Cakes- I do like glasses but feel more myself in my lenses.
I got some heavenly presents - my red shoes from dh and my Jo Malone lime, basil & mandarin cologne which I had as an early bday present, chocolates ! and a cute panda case for my phone (from ds) My mum and dad gave me some French silver earrings -with hamsa symbols -will link to them...and a Boden fairisle cardy- sweet ! And they asked a friend of mine to make me a big Celeste out of fabric ! it's fabulous ! She also made me a mini one from her. I had soap and notebooks (love notebooks) too. Very spoiled and lucky.

I can't decide, - its not quite enough for a continental holiday, but Haribo sounds like the next best thing Grin I can spend it in Boots, HMV, Waterstones, Homebase (as if!) New Look and a few other places I've forgotten. DD and I have a girly shopping day planned this week so I can go wild Grin

smee · 19/09/2011 14:47

Waah, can't keep up!! Sorry not to post to all. House is mad - full of builders, cats (ours keeps bringing in his mates!) and a small boy who reckons he's ill (not convinced). I have a mountain of work, which I am failing to do. Grrr....

Just to say, I had eye problems on chemo too, but when I had them tested a few months back my prescription hadn't changed. Smile

I will try and keep up from now. Waving to all though and hoping all those on treatment aren't too bad. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2011 14:47

here
Ds and I had to taste smoothies once- we got a voucher and some sweeties..

That sounds a great birthday MAS, - I love the idea of a fabric Celeste Smile

DH's birthday is coming up soon, he has no clue what he wants. Hmm

cakesandale · 19/09/2011 14:52

Well that's the boost the domestic economy has been looking for, then. The shops in rural Norfolk will be leading the way Grin

Ah yes, MAS I had forgotten the shoes and the very gorgeous sounding perfume. With everything else it does add up to a very nice lot of pressies.

I am not a glasses person at all, but I am having a lot of trouble with dry eyes when I wear lenses. Am going to try some of that stuff you spray on your lids it is supposed to be fab.... I look a bit severe in glasses, it has to be said Hmm The doorman at our leisure centre asked me if I am a teacher because, he said, 'You look like someone who tells people what to do' Grin

cakesandale · 19/09/2011 14:55

Ooh I like the earrings as well Smile

Smee - sounds grim.

KK - men never know what they want. If pushed, my dh normally wants another blue shirt Hmm

KurriKurri · 19/09/2011 15:04

I love those ear rings MAS Smile

Sounds hectic Smee, what are you having done to the house? (I'm sure you've said, but I have the memory of a goldfish - sorry!)

DH always wants very dull stuff for his birthday too. He doesn't really read novels, just science text books, He's not interested in clothes. Ho hum. he was muttering something about a coffee machine the other day, so might go for that.

amberlight · 19/09/2011 15:04

Oooo good pressies, MAS! Smile

Seem to have Brew and some Lindt choc here. Anyone want a virtual one?

cakesandale · 19/09/2011 15:09

Tea for me, please. Still feeling too peaky from my vile lunch to risk chocolate. It truly was that foul.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2011 15:13

meee ! (please amber)
I wore my specs to the dentist once and he asked me if I'd been working that morning because I looked studious...
Let me know how that eye spray is Cakes -am curious. Coffee machine sounds a good present ! Dh and my dad are easy to buy for - clothes and books, beer or wine ! And dad loves L'Occitane shower stuff,or Floris balm.
I once had to buy my brother several yards of sailing rope which wasn't the most exciting thing, but he was pleased.

amberlight · 19/09/2011 15:27

I use that eye spray thingy and it's great, but I don't have contacts.

KurriKurri · 19/09/2011 15:36

Did someone say tea? How are you feeling today amber, not too bad I hope Smile

I'm off to see the GP about my wrist soon, - fed up of it hurting, I know s/he'll only give me anti inflamms which will make me sick but don't really know what else to do.

amberlight · 19/09/2011 15:49

Yup, not bad thanks apart from being at home with a cough virus thingy. Operation not giving me problems at the moment.

Hope they do something more useful for your wrist than giving you things that make you feel sick...

topsyturner · 19/09/2011 16:07

Nice earrings mas .

Yes , that's why I wear glasses < peers over top of lenses studiously and also with a coquettish flourish >
Everybody comments on how intelligent I look whilst wearing my glasses Grin

topsyturner · 19/09/2011 16:09

amber ???? Have you managed to unravel the duct tape again and escape the sofa ? Grin

amberlight · 19/09/2011 16:15

I have! Grin

cakesandale · 19/09/2011 16:39

Hope he sorts out the wrist, KK.

dd says there is a new girl in her class today. She was crying so dd asked her if she'd like to play with her at playtime. Apparently she said 'Er No' in that withering way spiteful little kids have. Sad I think she may have a bit to learn about making a good first impression Grin

topsyturner · 19/09/2011 16:43

Aaw , what a lovely thing for your DD to have said . Pity the grumpy girl threw it back in her face ! It's certainly a novel way of making friends Grin

Someone motivate me to get my backside off the laptop and get dinner started please .
Todays offerings are lamb cutlets (aaw the poor wee tasty lambkins) , little roastie potatoes , courgettes (from Grannys garden) and baby sweetcorns .
