Feedthegoat and essexgirl, glad you are both feeling a little but better.

I feel awful at the moment, but period due anytime now and I am always awful then. I got quite down again thinking that this medication isnt working but I am going to be patient and see what I am like after my period.

I've had a rubbish weekend feeling awful. Went out yesterday to town but had to come home after an hour, it was too much to deal with it while the shops were so busy.

My DP does the shopping mainly too, I sometimes go with him if I am not feeling too bad but won't go on my own yet.

hollygolightlyandcat · 01/08/2011 13:42

Glad to hear some of you are feeling a little better.
RTAC sorry you are feeling awful again, its horrible isnt it. Ive been really ill recently, struggling to get out of bed as the dizziness is so bad.

Ive decided I need to go back to ENT to try to get some answers, I just feel that whenever I start to improve I have another attack which sets me back. At the moment I feel like Ive gone back 6 months in my recovery.

I have the same problem in supermarkets as everyone else. I think its the lights. I tend to be ok if I have both hands on the shopping trolley for balance or am in the wheelchair. I'm generally a lot better out in natural light.

michglas · 01/08/2011 13:48

Feedthegoat, my vertigo was certainly worse when we stayed in a caravan so i don't do it now. For me i now recognise the early warning signs so hardly ever get a vertigo attack now. My warnings are tiredness, heat, and hunger. The following makes me feel unstable, so I don't do them - standing on edge of swimming pool, esculators, standing still on stairs amongst a few other things.

My cause of vertigo is migraines and i have really good medication for that. Additionally, I have a brain cyst which sits where my right hand balance centre should be, so it is easy for me to feel off balance so i don't do the things that are going to make me feel unstable.

RichTeaAreCrap · 01/08/2011 17:58

What medication do you take for the megraines michglas? Does it stop the dizziness for you?

Holly, so sorry to hear you have had a setback. You should push for another ENT appointment, I agree. It is awful when you start to feel better and then it all happens again.

I don't get vertigo attacks as such, I just get dizzy/lightheaded but tend to have it almost all of the time.

essexgirl31 · 06/08/2011 07:14

Hi all,

Hope you are all as well as can be. Had a good few days overall - not feeling surreal and out of my head all the time but have had some pretty dizzy moments. They have only lasted seconds though. Had an admin day in the office on Thursday - sitting at the computer for most of the day is hard. I think everything I do is hard!!

Have good weekends

RichTeaAreCrap · 06/08/2011 09:48

Hi everyone, not been a great week for me. Infact its been hell. Had lots of stress but also had my period and been so dizzy. I got really down about it mid week and spent a night in tears, just so frustrated that I couldn't feel normal and do normal things.

I am still taking the medication and my period has finished now, so I am hoping that I start to have a few good days. Just so sick of it and also all the head/neck pressure that seems to come with it.

Essexgirl, I have to take a lot of breaks from the pc, it does make it harder when you have to stare at a screen all day. Glad your dizzy moments didn't last too long.

Hope everyone else is feeling better and has dizzy free weekends.

essexgirl31 · 06/08/2011 18:56

RTAC - you poor thing. Fingers crossed you get your good few days. It is so miserable isn't it? Normality is the thing I crave. Nothing more just that.

I try to take breaks - it was one of those stupid busy days that meant I was tied to it more than usual.

Grockle · 07/08/2011 00:56

Hello all -I lost this thread & had to search for you!

I've been fairly ok recently but am having a few brief wooshy spells several times a day. I can cope with those because I feel ok thecrest of the time. I know tiredness makes it worse for me. I'd never linked it to my period but have mine now so it could well be related.

I have my ENT appointment in 10 days so need to think about what to tell him.

RichTeaAreCrap · 15/08/2011 11:53

Hi all

I hope you have all been ok. I am still dizzy. The last couple of days were not quite as bad, but last week was not good. Still on the medication so lets hope it works.

Good luck with the ENT appointment Grockle.

essexgirl31 · 15/08/2011 13:14

Hi all,

I am not too bad at the moment. The exercises are really helping. Still up and down though which my physio said is normal

Good luck from me too Grockle

Grockle · 15/08/2011 16:28

Hello...Am glad you've both been managing.

I Just got back from ENT. was strange - he barked questions at me, scrawled on his pad, shoved a bit of paper at me then. Into his dictaphone, dictated a letter to my GP saying I have hearing loss, menieres attacks and am being sent for an MRI to rule out anything else. He didnt actually tell ME any of that. I feel quite scared now and cross that I didn't ask him to explain to me.

Dizziness bearable, tinnitus horrible

essexgirl31 · 15/08/2011 20:34

Hi Grockle,

Will he be seeing you again? I think an MRI is a pretty routine thing when you have had dizziness. Perhaps you could go back to your GP in a couple of weeks when the letter from your Consultant gets there - your GP should be able to reassure you and explain it all I feel cross your behalf - dizziness is so hard. It is such a struggle and to come away feeling rubbish isn't fair. It was the 2nd ENT Dr that I saw that has really helped and been interested. The first was one was nice but discharged me pretty quick with no follow up.

Such a rotten thing we are all going through

Grockle · 16/08/2011 09:15

I'm nOt sure if he'll see me again. He told my GP it was menieres & to prescribe serc so I guess we'll see what happens then. I was so taken aback by the way he didn't speak to me or explain anything that I forgot to ask! I want to know how bad the hearing loss is, how I can reduce the Tinnitus, what to expect etc.

Grockle · 16/08/2011 09:40

And also, now I'm feeling very guilty and concernced as DS was diagnosed with hearing loss about 3 months ago. I had no idea I had it too - is it genetic? Has he got it from me? They say he has glue ear but could it be related to me? I know nothing and am all in a flap!

RichTeaAreCrap · 16/08/2011 11:31

Hi Grockle, that is awful that he didn't explain everything to you. My 1st ENT appointment was similar and the last one wasn't great either, I felt like they just wanted me out of the room as quickly as possible. They have no idea how bad dizziness is and how we need reassuring that they are treating it properly and want to understand what they plan to do.

I had an MRI too, essexgirl is right, its quite routine.

I agree, go to your GP and ask them to explain everything to you when they get the letter back. I have been on Serc - they didn't work for me, but mine isn't ear related. They are supposed to be very good so hopefully they will bring you some relief.

I don't know if hearing loss is genetic so can't help you there - again, ask your GP.

They are awful when they don't speak to you and explain things, makes me so cross.

Grockle · 16/08/2011 12:08

Thank you for the reassurance. I know nothing is different really, I just didn't expect to hear what I did and am very cross at the way I was treated - it wasn't bad, just rude really. I'm quite feisty usually but I felt like a small child & shuffled out of the room when I was dismissed rather than saying, 'Um, excuse me - could you please explain everything you just told your dictaphone about me?' Oh well, will chat to GP. I seem to spend a lot of time there bt haven't been for about 6 weeks so I think my dr will be wondering where I am Blush. Time for another chat Grin

Interestingly, for the 1st time in weeks, I was very dizzy last night. Am sure it is a coincidence that it followed my ENT appointment but sort of made me laugh.

Hope everyone else is ok.

essexgirl31 · 16/08/2011 21:13

He did not treat you well at all. It makes me cross too.

I feel really lucky with my 2nd ENT Dr - I wish you all could see him!

Stress really contributes to my dizziness. I hope it has gone for you today. Have you started thhe Serc yet?

javo · 19/08/2011 11:09

Hi- not been on for a while .
Grockle - how horrid - my last ENT was like this too. I waited 2 hours past my appointment time to see him - spent 3 minutes with him and was dismissed like a troublesome child - I felt like crying but was also really angry. They have no idea!!

As RichTea said MRI's are fairly routine, although because of the cost lots of ENT's are not always doing them now. I was very reassured when mine was fine because I had really worried about brain tumours etc and so it set my mind at ease.

Serc is usually prescribed for about 3 months - need to take it that long for it to work. It's an antihistimine and I think it makes the blood flow faster and can help balance out disturbances in the inner ear for some people.

Surprised you don't have 6 month follow up hearing - thought they needed to track that. With Menieres your hearing (usually in one ear) deteriorates over time a bit more than normal. I was told I had menieres for 13 years but apparently have had Mav all along as my hearing was deteriorating when it was monitoired in the first few years (I was then discharged but got rereferral 1 1/2 years ago) but is now within the bottom of the normal range for my age.

My first ENT was nice but I think that's because I saw him privately initially (as you had to wait 6 months for na appointment on the NHs back then in London).

Lots of people on dizzy forums rate this guy - he has an NHS clinic and lots of private sessions around the South East. May see him myself if things get bad again

Apologies - long post

Grockle · 22/08/2011 07:31

That's infuriating, javo. At least I was seen in time -to the second!

Hope everyone is ok ATM & feeling rested & 'normal' . I'm off the the states firca week. Last yr i went 4 weeks and spent 1 of those in bed feeling horribly dizzy, sick & unwell. I don't have time for that so am hoping not to feel too jetlagged.

javo · 25/08/2011 18:24

Hope you have a lovely time an dthat the palne does not affect you too much

RichTeaAreCrap · 25/08/2011 21:54

Have a great time Grockle, hope you feel well while you are away.

I am away for the weekend and hoping that the shitty dizziness I have had today fades and quick!!

essexgirl31 · 26/08/2011 06:19

Have a good time away Grockle and you too richtea.

Rough week for me. It is such a rollercoaster still.

Grockle · 28/08/2011 12:58

Hope you have a good time, richTea.

Flying was ok for me & I've not had a bad week - quite a bit of 'wooshiness' & feeling tingly & spaced out but nothing worse. My tinnitus has been present with a vengeance - I can't distinguish between the constant buzz of the cicadas & the noise in my head. I actually think tinnitus is the thing I want to get on top of. I was wondering about something like reflexology?

Hope everyone has a calm & peaceful bank holiday

essexgirl31 · 01/09/2011 20:17

Hi all,

Hope you are all as well as can be.

I saw my ENT Dr today. He is pleased I am doing better but did say my recovery will take a year to 18months. The good bits will get longer and the bad times shorter as time goes on. I am hoping the time started when I started physio 4 months ago!!

I have had a bad 2 weeks but it is reassuring to know this is part of the recovery

Grockle · 01/09/2011 22:17

What good news, Essex. I'm so pleased for you. Is recovery permanent?
