Deepbreath so sorry you are suffering too have you tried sturgeon? it can be usefull on a bad day on occasion . What else are they going to try with you now are you under a consultant?
JJgirl glad you feel better Im told migraine can be constant.
Tryingtoleave Yes Im told migraine can cause vertigo I started off with a spell now and then years ago but progressed to this I think from a virus and just never went away I wish I had pushed the doctors more when I was getting mild attacks as I wouldnt have got this bad probably. I would say try a anti migraine med such as pizotifen, propranolol or amitriptyline and see if they stop and then you would know its migraine.
Im seeing a neuro soon and I just hope he knows what to try next as Im really pissed off with it now as you can tell .

Sturgeon does absolutely nothing for me.
Would be great to know what the VM drug was shitmagnet. Stemitil has not been any help for me either.

rockinhippy · 29/05/2011 09:36

I get it too, but have only recently realised it can be down to migraine, nuro diagnosed me with chronic migraine & did mention a lot of my other symptoms, such as intermittent colour blindness can actually be down to migraine & not M.E. as I've previously been led to believe - mine does come & go, but is always there to a lesser degree IYSWIM, can't offer much in the way of advice as regards drugs etc, as I just don't tolerate them well & therefore can't take any but basics, so wouldn't know if any can help with this particular symptom.

I did want to add though - just incase - have you heard of/looked into MDDS info here might be worth reading up on

Also - I don't yet know how relevant it is, but after YEARS of migraine & sinus problems & more recently recurring neck lymph gland infections - & all the scans & tests that go along with it - I had a flare up of the gland infection when I had my routine ENT check up - I mentioned it to my ENT Dr by way of excusing the fact I wasn't very together - he took a great interest & organised a more indepth CT scan that had previously been done

It showed up a tiny pocket of infection embedded in my jaw bone, a bit of root/nerve left over from a wisdom tooth extraction when I was only about 19/20 - he did say its not his area of expertise, but he feels sure that its actually the true source of a lot of my problems, including recurring sinus infections, headaches, vertigo & now these lymph gland flare ups - I've had it for over 20 years with no previous answers - I have a referral to another hospital dept for surgery to remove it - pretty hopeful it will be live changing, so it might be something worth baring in mind if you've had any dental work on the run up to your problems starting

Also I've found acupuncture can help a lot, as can MLD - good luck

rockinhippy · 29/05/2011 10:13

PS, I should have added - I find wearing the Seaband sea sickness bands can be a big help too

sweetness86 · 29/05/2011 10:47

hi Rock
Ive searched MDDS im pretty sure its not that i havent travelled and i feel like im moving internally rather than my surroundings IYKWIM. Glad something helps you .

I hope all the dizzy ladies are feeling ok. I've had a bad day - went out for the day to visit my dad. I ended up slumped on the sofa all day with bad dizziness. Oh how I wish this would go.

sweetness86 · 30/05/2011 20:24

I really feel for you sweetness86, vertigo and dizziness is absolutely horrendous.

I posted about labyrinthitis a while ago, it's very similar to vertigo.

here's my thread

You might find something useful in it. I hope you get some relief soon.

deepbreath · 30/05/2011 23:18

Hi sweetness, I haven't tried Sturgeon. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I am trying to limit my screen time to see if it helps me. The neurologist thinks that I have a neuro condition of some kind, I was already seeing him and just told him that the dizziness was getting worse. I don't know if this dizziness is part of that condition or something else (I can do without extras like this though!)

I hope that you all have a better day tomorrow. I could do with one too, half term break and not being able to go far isn't great.

Thank you rockinhippy for the Seabands info.

RichTeaAreCrap · 31/05/2011 10:45

Hi MrBloom, has your labyrinthitis cleared up now? I hope you are feeling better.

I have felt awful all weekend with this dizziness - not been able to do a thing. I noticed that diazepan helped me sleep without too much room spin the other night, but I dont want to take that on a regular basis.

I hope you all have a better day today, and wish I could offer some help with how to stop it - I would do anything to get rid of it.

sweetness86 · 01/06/2011 07:36

sorry you had a bad day , how are you now ?

OP posts:
RichTeaAreCrap · 01/06/2011 13:06

How are you feeling today>

sweetness86 · 01/06/2011 14:49

RichTeaAreCrap · 01/06/2011 16:13

that is really strange you say that sweetness - mine is always so much worse when my period is due. I wonder what it is that makes that happen?

sweetness86 · 02/06/2011 07:46

It could be I know I ALWAYS get worse when due on or on my period. I think its to extra fluid and it builds up in the inner ear or migraine in the form of vertigo but its defo a lot to do with hormones Im not due for about 2 weeks and I feel better again but I know it will get worse once my period is due again . There must be something we can take to help though .

OP posts:
RichTeaAreCrap · 02/06/2011 10:50

well I have had an awful week with it and my period is due at the weekend so that makes sense.

paddypoopants · 02/06/2011 11:16

Sorry I havn't had time to read all the posts. I have had chronic dizzines for the last ten years. It started with an ear infection and a series of misdiagnoses and bad interventions from GPs and specialists lead it to becoming a lot worse. They didn't do half of the tests other people here have had. They just said it was damage done to my ear by the virus. I lost 3 years of my life really. It was dreadful but the doctors did an MRI said there was nothing serious and just put up with it. For ages one GP kept saying it was pyschological until I pointed out that when they gave me the superstrong steroid drops I improved instantly.
I eventually came off the steroid sprays they had given me for sinus problems and I slowly began to get better. I just accepted there was not going to be a miracle cure and I just had to move on.
I think ignoring it and getting on with things helped - I sort of trained my brain to shut off the worst of the symptoms and adapted. Now I only get dizzy every so often. The worst offenders are certain kinds of lights, travel (obviously) and hormones- the week before my period is dreadful. I used to know when I was getting an attack as I would get a panic attack out of the blue and then the symptoms would come on soon after. At first I thought the panic attack was causing them but then I realised my body was reacting to the first signs of the dizziness.
Interestingly I discovered that my GP had seen 2 other people who had the same initial ear infection at the exactly same time as me and they had ended up with long term symptoms- so he thought it was a particular virus that had caused it.
It's comforting to see other people with this (sorry)- GP's just don't seem to realise how debilitating and depressing it can be. I found friends thought I was some sort of malingerer because I didn't have a proper disease. Rubbish thing is I can't drink it's like russian roulette whether the first glass will set the worls spinning again. No more hangovers mind.
I hope you all feel better soon.

sweetness86 · 02/06/2011 19:37

Thanks Paddy even though you still get dizziness your post gives me hope things can get better . Ive had a better day again Im defo blaming hormones for a lot of my symptoms so am going to turn to some sort of medication as soon as im due on and see if I can dampen down the episdode maybe :/ my ear is very bad at the mo though full and blocking and ringing drives me mad but rather that than the bad dizziness !

jjgirl · 03/06/2011 12:46

the only treatment i had was loads of sumatriptan for the actual migraines and i went to verstibular rehabilitation with a physio for over a year. the physio did not work because the migraines could not be controlled. i now have the migraines under control as well as the vertigo. very busy being a single parent working full time so have not had time to pursue further treatment as i feel i can cope for the time being.

RichTeaAreCrap · 03/06/2011 18:17

i already take sumatriptan when I get a migraine. I get really dizzy without any head pain too though. JJgirl, do you mean you took the tabs even without a full migraine, just with dizziness?

I am off to the dizzy clinic in a couple of weeks so really hoping i get some answers, this is genuinely awful.

paddypoopants · 03/06/2011 18:33

Ooh there's me coming over all 'dizziness is under control' and I got a really bad day today - probably cos its hot. I find anything outwith the norm sets me off- too hot, too cold, too tired, sick etc. It's interesting what you're all saying about migraines as I get them as well - a few with auras but generally without. The doctors put my headaches down to sinusitis but I eventually realised they were migraine type headaches caused by hormones and weather pressure. I can predict thunderstorms and heavy rain - I am a witch.

sweetness86 · 04/06/2011 07:02

Yes its defo hormones I can feel today might be bad but just worked out Im in middle of cycle so a surge of hormones again!
So sick of it though just feel like ripping off my own head GRRRRRRRRRRR

I am due my period today - went to bed last night dizzy and woke up this morning feeling like the room was moving. Hate this. I hope it eases off a bit and gives me a day off today.
