Hi mumofjust1,

I definately felt nauseous when mine started and have done on and off.

My friend had bpv and was given some exercises which worked within days.

How long have you had vertigo for?

Grockle · 25/01/2012 19:36

I often have nausea and have permanent tinnitus - mine is high pitched squealing in one ear with loud shorter bursts of lower pitched sounds throughout the day. Very distracting.

Hope you feel better soon.

mumofjust1 · 25/01/2012 21:22

Hi Essex and Grockle Grin

I had my first bout about 6 months ago, and this bout for just under 2 weeks Sad it's horrible. I'm actually in bed now as the nausea is so bad.

In between I had some minor episodes of dizziness, nothing that lasted too long or really impacted on me day to day.

It's driving me mad. I find I'm dizzy when I get up, then a take a stemetil and it eases. Then I'm ok until 3ish, but get worse towards the evening.

Do either of you ever feel like the floor is moving beneath your feet?

aristocat · 25/01/2012 23:01

Hi ladies, sorry to see you all still so dizzy - I am still waiting for my MRI results, it has been 5wks and 1 day now Hmm since the scan.

Just a quick update, sorry to post and run, I will be back tomorrow [bsmile]

MrsDobalina · 25/01/2012 23:15

Hello please may I join? I just saw this thread! I've had vertigo for about 2 or 3 years now and the attacks are now monthly. My GP just diagnosed me with BPV.

I wonder if I could ask a question - does anyone else find alcohol makes it worse? I haven't been drinking anything much really since I first had it cos of pregnancy and bf but have noticed if I drink more than a couple of glasses in the evening it seems to trigger the vertigo and nausea in the morning. Is that normal or co-incidence?

I'm sorry so many of you have this awful thing. Out of all the nasty but non life threatening things I've ever had, this one is the pits.

aristocat · 25/01/2012 23:29

MrsD i have been tee-total for 18months so didnt drink anyway when my vertigo started (Aug 2011). Sorry I am not much help for you, hopefully someone will be along tomorrow.

essexgirl31 · 26/01/2012 07:07

Hi MrsD. Welcome. Sorry you are here but pleased you have found us.

Alcohol makes my dizziness much worse. I can just about handle one glass of wine. My ENT Dr told me to avoid alcohol especially red wine. He also told me to avoid caffiene and cheese. I now only have one cup of tea a day. The cheese fight is not as successful - but I have cut down.

You are right it really is the pits.

Aristocat I hope you get your results soon. I think if there was anything wrong you would know by now. Still horrible waiting though.

MrsDobalina · 26/01/2012 18:15

Oh no SadSad. Thank you essexgirl. I knew that was probably the case as I felt so awful and dizzy after drinking so little. I kept trying to kid myself but it's hard to pretend the room spinning is a hangover . I'll have a good read of this thread and see if I can find any other good coping tips

sweetness86 · 27/01/2012 22:46

Hi

Just to let you know I am in the new house now but was awful and dizzy for a about one week after its all calmed again now which is a relief.

MrsDobalina drinking actually triggered my dizziness to start full swing I really wouldn't do it to yourself. I still miss it though what can we do for shits and giggles now eh?!

mumo if you have BPV please look up the epley manoeuvre and the Brandt Daroff exercises they should sort it out for you and if it still persists ask for a refferal off the GP. Tinnitus is very common Ive had it for years so think something has been wrong for a while. Its a sign of inner ear damage and BPV does not cause tinnitus more like menieres disease. With menieres you get hours of non stop vertigo head movement makes noo difference to the dizziness really.

Grockle I wouldn't rue out MAV maybe check the Migraine associated vertigo forum its quite good for knowledge on the condition but is an American site mainly but I have made some UK friends on there but its quite informative take a look anyway. Knowledge is power as they say.

Has anyone heard of a Brain stem evoked test to try an work out causes of dizziness? I've recently heard of this and would love to have one done I think it tests out what triggers your dizziness and to check whether its coming from your brain rather than your ears. I know a few dizzy friends who have had it done so may ask for this in future.

Sorry for long winded post just wanted to reply to newbies and oldies Night everyone hope yu have a dizzy free weekend :)

sweeteness thank you. Bit depressing though. I'm going to look up those exercises too

Grockle · 31/01/2012 20:57

Welcome MrsD. Sorry you have to join us. Alcohol doesn't make much of a difference but I very rarely drink anyway. I avoided caffiene too and that didn't make it bettervirgi

Any news aristocat?

aristocat · 01/02/2012 13:16

Just popping back in quickly, my hard drive died on the laptop and I couldn't get here unless I used the iPod but its so difficult to write more than a few words with that.
Anyway I phoned the hospital again and there is a letter in the post to me Hmm - consultants secretary said 6 wks was a normal time to wait!

I have done the B-D exercises too and they are OK, you need to be aware that they will make you dizzy but its the repetition that helps.

javo · 02/02/2012 10:07

Sweetness - really interesting about the brain stem test - never heard of it, but will investigate - thanks

My teens were watching Home and Away yesterday and a surfer girl nearly drowned in it because she had Menieres! - first time I've ever heard it mentioned in a TV programme.

Aristocrat - agree -Exercises really do help your body compensate - even though they make you feel foul.

If you think you have MAV then the migraine diet does help (though not a cure)when things are bad - especially cutting out caffeine and alcohol.

Hope everyone not feeling too awful - off to google about the brain test.

aristocat · 02/02/2012 18:22

Ladies, I bring good news Smile my MRI scan on brain and ears has come back with a normal result!

However I am still getting dizzy sometimes so will have some questions for the consultant when I see him. Anyone else had this?

RichTeaAreCrap · 02/02/2012 19:13

Hi Ladies, hope you are all having a better time at the moment. The brain stem test sounds interesting, wish I could convince my GP to refer me for it.

Aristocat, great news about your MRI results. Yes it has happened to me - my results came back normal too but I was still dizzy. There have been times when I have even thought the person reviewing it has missed something - completely irrational I know!!

Anyway, I have had brain scan, all balance tests etc and they were all clear so I was diagnosed with MAV.

javo · 02/02/2012 20:00

happy for you aristocrat.
Same here - my MRI was clear too -They only noticed some sinus congestion apparently. However, although I was still dizzy it was such a relief to know that nothing really "serious" was wrong.

Grockle · 03/02/2012 19:17

Yay, good news Smile Although it is frustrating still have the symptoms and not knowing what is causing the problem.

mumofjust1 · 07/02/2012 17:17

Just thought I'd pop in and see how everyone is feeling Smile

I am suffering with vertigo again - feeling lousy. Do any of you get a "buzzing" sensation in your head when you feel dizzy?
I was just at Tesco and came over dizzy, felt like I was going to fall over Sad luckily Dh was with me and I had to grab onto him. As my head was spinning, I got a buzzing sensation - it was horrible, the top of my head felt kind of light.

I started feeling nauseous about half an hour before the dizziness started, and still feel sick and shaky now.

Does this ring a bell with any of you? Does it sound like true vertigo? Also, the stemetil isn't helping much - is there anything else I can ask for? Can I ask to be referred? Don't think my Gp is very interested to be honest Sad

Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance x

Grockle · 07/02/2012 17:55

Oh, that sounds horrible. I don't have buzzing, just constant loud tinnitus. My ENT dr put me on Betahistine (Serc) and took me off Stemetil. I still have Buccastem (buccal version of stemetil) but it's for emergencies only. The registrar said your body needs to go through feeling sick and dizzy for it to know you've had vertigo and so that it can help itself recover. Or something Confused

aristocat · 18/02/2012 21:12

Hope everyone is well and I have good news ..... my dizziness has gone Shock I have seen the consultant and he did the lying on the bed test again (head/neck off the end in his hands) and there was no dizziness at all and it has steadily got less and less over the last few weeks/days.

I am quite amazed TBH and I have been discharged but if it returns to call the consultant asap. He did say that there might be a problem with my neck that has made me dizzy.

Best wishes to everyone and I hope you are all OK Smile

RichTeaAreCrap · 19/02/2012 13:19

aristocat, that is brilliant news, so pleased that it has gone for you.

What do you think has been the cure?

Mine is certainly still there, I get it everyday to some extent. I feel pressure building in my neck and jaw and get lightheaded. I have been reading about some homeapathic remedy called Vertigo heel that is meant to be good. I ordered it off Amazon and am now waiting for it to arrive. I will let you all know how it is when I have tried it.

essexgirl31 · 20/02/2012 10:31

Aristocat - what fab fab fab news. Well done you. So pleased for you. I hope you never get it again

RTAC - let me know if it helps.

I am not too bad at the moment. I don't have it all the time but do get horrid episodes. I am still doing my exercises.

aristocat · 20/02/2012 11:44

thanks essex and RichTea so sorry that some on here have had this awful dizziness for years Sad mine lasted 6 months and it seemed like forever.

::crosses fingers:: that it has gone for good.

best wishes to all of you mwah mwah x

Grockle · 20/02/2012 21:56

Great news, aristocat.

Mine's not been bad - a couple of minor bouts of vertigo but only lasted an hour or so each time and didn't leave me feeling sea sick for days. Hope everyone else is ok.
