princesspeahead · 10/11/2005 14:10

I'm so glad you are there, that he is on anti-bs and is being looked after.

I was very worried there for a minute!

give him a big hug from all of us x

Blu · 10/11/2005 14:12

And thank you to any MN-ers who are there and helping her

moondog · 10/11/2005 14:14

Phew! Thank God.
Sister's baby had meningitis at two weeks.
Luckily they started treatment straight away before diagnosis confirmed.
It was touch and go for a while.

Horrible nightmare,the whole thing.

Nearly 2 and just fine now.

Bugsy2 · 10/11/2005 14:44

Just seen this. Hope TS's little ds is improving still. My ds had viral meningitus which isn't anything like so serious - but still scared the pants off me.
Best wishes to TS.

CountessDracula · 10/11/2005 14:49

God how awful, glad things seem to be stabilising. Big hugs to her xxx

lucycinco · 10/11/2005 14:59

How terrible, best wishes to you both

Amyjade · 10/11/2005 15:15

So glad it's good news.x

The rash is usually the last sign of meningicoccal meningitis and is often linked with organ failure so he would be obviously ill by now.
Remember though that my Dd had no rash or other obvious symptoms stiff neck, headache etc, mainly because at 19 months she couldn't tell me but with Pneumococcal meningitis there is no rash so is very hard to diagnose.

We all know when a child is very ill just go with your instincts not what the doctor tells you.

sunchowder · 10/11/2005 15:55

Sending my thoughts to you for extra-speedy recovery!

Enid · 10/11/2005 16:27

hope ts gets lots of rest after this, it must have been a shock

ts, if you are anything like me, it wont sink in until about Monday then I'll feel miserable.

Hope everything goes on improving x E

Blossomhill · 10/11/2005 16:37

So sorry to hear this

I hope you have got my text and that ds is feeling better. Lots of love B xxx

fullmoonfiend · 10/11/2005 18:30

TS, I know it will prob be some time before (if) you get to ready any of these messages but just want to add huge healing hugs to you and your family at this worrying time.
My ds had meningicoccal meningitis 3 yrs ago (and recovered fully) but I have been in tears reading this and I still get flashbacks to what was a dreadful time. I want to add to what others have said, to all parents out there - trust your instincts. My ds did not have 'classic' symptoms and indeed, a doctor paid a house call and said it was flu. But I felt very strongly that my ds was behaving very abnormally to 'flu' and several hours later we were so concerned we took him to out of hours GP and A and E. During the 15 minute journey his symptoms worsened considerably. He spent 3 weeks in hosp and my mother was told at one point that he was prob not going to make it. Luckily, he was fine. But if we had not trusted our instincts it could have been very different. My heart goes out to anyone out there whose family has been affected by this illness.
May I just add that we were greatly helped at the time and afterwards by the 24-hour free helpline offered by the Meningitis Research Foundation (Freefone 080 8800 3344) who listened to me tirelessly and provided much-needed advice and answers to 'silly questions' when the hospital couldn't always help.

Springchicken · 10/11/2005 20:08

So so so pleased TS. great to hear DS is looking up a bit

I have just been on the phone to NHS Direct, DD has lots of symptoms (but no rash) and after reading this this morning decieded to ring straight away, got put straight through to a nurse who spent about 15 mins on the phone to me doing lots of different tests and checks. She thinks it is probably an ear infection from the description I have given her and the results of the tests we done. On Call doctor is due to be calling us back within the hour.

Janh · 10/11/2005 20:20

Just had a call from TS, they are home!

The doctors are fairly baffled, but as the rash has stopped spreading and DS is not ill (apart from the painful legs) they thought he & TS would be better off going home. He has oral antibiotics and she's been given a direct number to ring in case he does become ill overnight - she plans to put him in her bed so she can keep an eye on him.

She's not planning to log on for a bit as she needs to wind down first but may be on later.

Phew!

SC, sorry to hear about DD, hope it's nothing serious, and fmf, thanks for your post. This kind of thing seems to be more common than we might think.

ruty · 10/11/2005 20:31

good news. hope all's ok for you SC.

Springchicken · 10/11/2005 20:33

Great news Janh. Please pass on all of our wishes to TS.
Which mumsnetters ended up helping out int he end?

DD is fast asleep now, know it;s not ideal but she was absolutely exhausted. Keeping a
very close eye on her though.

LIZS · 10/11/2005 20:51

TS, very relieved for you that all seems well. Thanks for the update again Janh.

kid · 10/11/2005 20:57

Glad to hear that he is back home.

Looking at those pictues on the link reminded me of when DD was 11 months old and had the rash. Our Dr told us to get straight to the hospital where blood was taken, we were kept in overnight and DD was checked every hour. By the morning, the rash was no worse, she hadn't deteriorated and the blood tests were clear so they sent us home with their phone number and strict instructions to get straight back if anymore rash or symptoms appeared. It was a very scary 24 hours.

Elibean · 10/11/2005 21:12

So relieved to hear DS is home, hope you all have a reasonable night's rest....and that things continue to improve tomorrow. Springchicken, hope DD feels better fast and all is well.

Miaou · 10/11/2005 21:25

Glad to hear it janh. Hope he continues to get better
