Toothache · 10/11/2005 11:46

Thinking of you and your family. Sounds promising though that he is not appearing to be really ill. Hopefully he has the less aggressive form. So worrying and so frightening.

DelGirl · 10/11/2005 11:48

thanks for the update Janh. Thinking of you all xxx

MrsSpoon · 10/11/2005 11:52
Sad
Springchicken · 10/11/2005 11:53

I wondered that too Marina. Hope TS isn't dealing with all of this on her own

LadyTophamHatt · 10/11/2005 11:53

Blimey, only just seen this.

Finger crossed for everything ST.

Blu · 10/11/2005 11:53

afaik, the rash is caused by scepticemia, which is one of the effects of Meningitis, but it can also be caused by lots of other things.

Don't they have to do a lumbar puncture to diagnose Meningitis?

Oh, SB, you are in my thoughts.

HRHQoQ · 10/11/2005 11:53

oh cr*p was out this morning adn only just got - hope things are looking up now

LIZS · 10/11/2005 11:55

Willow2 · 10/11/2005 12:27

Not the update I was hoping for - but at least they will have started him on meds good and early. Fingers firmly crossed and thinking of you.

dejags · 10/11/2005 12:27

So sorry to catch up and see news not better....but also glad they are in the right place, and SURE they will have started DS on meds. Thinking of TS and family lots. xxC

Elibean · 10/11/2005 12:38

Also, thanks to those of you who've had this awful experience for posting details...I will scream blue murder and throw things before I let anyone minimize these kinds of symptoms if DD ever gets them. Soo grateful for the info, so sorry others had to go there to get it. xxC

aloha · 10/11/2005 12:39

You really don't need this do you S B? So sorry. What a worrying time.

crazydazy · 10/11/2005 12:39

It just beggars belief why children are sent home from A&E when there is clearly something wrong!!!!!

Happy - your friend's little girl had a rash too - WTF!!!!! and I really do feel for her!!!

OMG, why aren't they more careful?

BudaBabe · 10/11/2005 12:44

What I don't understand is why they don't just err on the side of caution and give the antibiotics anyway. If it is NOT meningitis and they give the antibiotics will it harm the child? Does anyone know?

Janh · 10/11/2005 12:51

Just had a phone call - the rash appears to have stabilised, which is good, and DS is still the same - his legs hurt but he isn't ill. He has an antibiotic drip and that makes his hand ache a bit, but it's looking less and less like meningitis so TS is hoping they might be able to go home at some point today.

He got some sleep last night but she didn't, so she is shattered, but she is OK for help atm and says thank you all for your concern and thoughts

LIZS · 10/11/2005 12:55

Thanks for the update Janh. Sounds more positive. Hope she can get home to rest soon.

ruty · 10/11/2005 12:55

glad it is good news.

BadgerBadger · 10/11/2005 12:57

Hi TS, I hope you and DS are doing ok.

I wanted to let you know that my sister made a full recovery from meningitis.

When she became ill, we dithered for some hours before even contacting the GP, unsure of whether her symptoms were that of a bug or something more serious. She was vomiting and complained of a headache initially, when she eventually became delerious we contacted the GP and were sent to A+E.

A lumber puncture suggested meningitis, she then developed a rash, which to be honest looked like little more than three flea bites on her upper thigh!

She was admitted to a quarrantine room, put on IV anti-biotics and 10 days later returned home absolutely fine. It was an awful week or so for us but she didn't seem to realise what all the fuss had been about, enjoyed the lounging around and felt a bit bored! Ignorance is bliss.

(Meanwhile, the rest of us had to take antibiotic tablets which turned our pee to lucozade orange. If your DS is diagnosed with meningitis, you may well be given similar.)

Thinking positive thoughts for you all xx

Nightynight · 10/11/2005 12:59
