Hello quitters.

I'm off to see the nurse next week to see about trying Champix. I've smoked for 20 years now :(

Does anyone know whether you can take them if you're on antidepressants?

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 14/09/2011 16:12

Not sure about the ADs I'm afraid. I am now day two of being a non smoker. I honestly can't say I miss it and I have smoked for 35 years. 34 on red Marlboro.

I've just had a quick shufty at the instructions. It looks as if you can't. One of the side effects is depressive thought and suicidal ideations.
Have a chat to your GP would be my advice. Good luck.

I tried Champix myself but had to come off it after about 3 weeks for many of the reasons mentioned already. All started well but insomnia kicked in, then the moods started and it was becoming increasingly difficult to motivate myself at all....in hindsight I was very depressed. I have no experience of depression at all prior to starting on Champix. Eventually I was physically ill as well and had my anti-smoking DP begging me to stop the pills. For once I listened to him and most symptoms stopped immediately!

I have had friends use this very successfully but just be aware that it can react negatively to some? Good luck!!

I actually read a few more of the side effects and think i'll go to my GP. I've got a really horrible cold that 's caused green grollys that I can blow bubbles with. It appears also that an uncommon side effect is a chest infection, I can feel one brewing now Sad [feels rough]

Olifin · 15/09/2011 09:29

Oh dear rips, that sounds a bit grim :( Could it be a side-effect of stopping smoking though, rather than the drugs? I know a lot of people say that stopping can cause colds etc as the body starts clearing out the lungs and so on.

Thanks for the info re ADs...will speak to GP. I really want to stop smoking but not at the expense of my MH.

Well done on your quitting so far; great going :)

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 15/09/2011 09:46

Feeling a bit better this morning, cold seems to be subsiding and I think the chestiness is my lungs thanking them for not smoking.
My cessation man will be really pleased. Today we have something to talk about other than the One show. It is rare to meet someone who likes it as much as me.
Fingers crossed for you Olifin, it really is a wonder drug. So far anyway.

Smoked for 20 years, 20 ish a day.
Never tried to quit before but planned to have my little fella.
Took Champix for 8 weeks. Felt was ok to not complete the full 3 month course. Not smoked since- 2 1/2 years now.

May i bump this thread rather than start a new one?
Day 1 ..... Bizarrely Excited!

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 26/09/2011 15:10

Day 12 (or13) of no cigs. Very effective and loving my Champix.

MCDL · 27/10/2011 10:43

Hi all, back on the cigs .... Very dissapointed. Will try again soon, dunno if will do the champix again although they worked for several months ..... How are all the earlier poster doing. Are you all still off the cigs ....

I am bar two that I slipped up on. IMO, it's better to give in and slyly steal one off your DHs friend than go and buy a whole packet.
It was a fail, but it happened last weekend and I haven't been tempted since.
