Hi all, back on the champix since yesterday, was finding it too difficult, much easier again now .. do they really work or is it all in your head .?

That is pretty strange as I have done the same.
2 weeks ago I cut down to just half a blue tablet twice a day as I was suffering a lot of nausea. Then Friday and Saturday I forgot to take the champix so I just decided to stop them...but like you MCDL I was craving so much yesterday. I spent most of the day fantasising about smoking.
Then in the evening, about 8pm I took a full blue champix and within about an hour I felt much better. Today I am back to my normal happy self and glad to be a non-smoker... So I am deffo staying with the champix!
Also I must add that I am back on full dose and so far had no sickness whatsoever.

coco68 · 05/04/2011 09:30

Was told by my Doctor who has made a long study into Champix that pills really do work but on the mind not the body (as with substitutes). but he stressed that a full time of 12 weeks is needed. Hope you are all ok wherever you are!! lol

flyby10 · 05/04/2011 11:55

HI All,

Well, I haven't taken anything since last Wednesday but I have those tablets attached to me wherever I go because I am taking no risks!! I'm in week 5 of not smoking and I am really feeling like a non smoker. I have definietly gone through some emotional roller coasters...week 3 being the worse. Week 1 and 2...easy...so elated that I had gone more than 3 days without smoking! Week 3 found everyone very ..I mean VERY annoying, felt very aggressive, low and although I wasnt craving really missed the fags. Week 4 started picking up again feeling better...still bit unfocused and the champix made me very woosey and out of sorts so weened them down to none.
However...they are a miracle drug because I never thought I would or want to give up smoking and I have!!! But I know if I had a puff I think would like it so I am taking no chances. I will be popping one at the mere sign of weakness. I'm not going through all this again.
It is now for me a lifestyle change. I am much calmer. Not rushing stuff. Not constantly trying to get out that back dooor for a reward....which is a nonsense... fags are not a reward...not very rewarding when my kids could end up bed bathing me cause I have lung cancer...yes if nothing else this a harsh thought that sticks in my head when I think about a little sneaky puff!!!
Sorry if that was a bit much on a TUesday ladies but it sounds like we all have children or grandchildren.....how awful for them to see us have a cancer that we could do a massive thing to cut the risks.
My husband & I watched his mother die of lung cancer. We were in our 30's and it was so so awful.(I can not believe it has taken us 5 years to give up after seeing it- but we have now and she would be proud!) but I don't want my babies(4 and 5yrs) to see what we saw.
Cricky....what an essay!!! ;-)

coco68 · 05/04/2011 18:40

Hello flybe, sounds like your both doing well, it is such a lovely time for you with your children at 4 and 5 years, I do remember although I now have G-
Children older than yours. My life seems so much easier without fags, and the cost is stupid, I remember saying to my sister I'm stopping when they get to £2.00 Huh!!! now years later having tried every known method to stop this WORKS.

MCDL · 06/04/2011 17:25

Hi to you all ..... Taking .5mg twice a day. seems to be working for me, but the vivid dreams are back .....

Six weeks today since I last smoked!
Still going strong...still on the champix, full dose.
Had just one hard day in the last week (when I temporarily stopped the champix). Other than that I have been absolutely fine.

flyby10 · 11/04/2011 09:58

Morning all. Nearly 6 weeks for me and have been off the champix for over a week now...but keeping it close by!
Occasionally feel like I need something(i supose taht is code for a fag!) but it passes.
Husband still on the tablets...can't handle a full dose though. Is still having a few bad days though. He is on week 4 now...so I hope it will pass for him because I remember two weeks ago I was really feeling low and was missing fags...so glad that has passed.
I have watched couple of things on tv where people are smoking..its not that I want to have one...it just seems weird I did it I think. I still like the smell of it...well fresh smell...not stale damp STINK!! But still doesn't make me want one.

So far I have not read a forum on giving up smoking where everyone has stayed given up!....but not us ladies...we have all done it! Well done us...may our lungs be clearer! x

coco68 · 12/04/2011 09:44

good morning all from very sunny Hertfordshire. One month of not smoking feels amazing, I do have my last pack in a drawer but have not been tempted YET. Was advised to do this by a friend who gave up decades ago she said she felt safer knowing they were there!!.Hope all goes well for everyone lol

nanatothree · 12/04/2011 19:44

Well done coco58 for not smoking the pack you have in a drawer. I had half a pack when I was two weeks not smoking, but they had to go couldn't have them lurking waiting for a weak moment.(confess I smoked them) Much more focused now there isn't any around at all. Too much temptation for me if I knew they were there IYSWIM.

coco68 · 13/04/2011 10:46

Hello nanatothree, beat you by one 4 G.c. I so loved that IYSWIM I looked
it up, as you see I'm very new to this, I gave up using Champix and still do
but what happens when I stop them !!! lol

nanatothree · 13/04/2011 21:28

Hello coco68, I am new to this too. Wanted to give up smoking and was looking at this and everyone said how good it was. Had tried patches etc but when you stop them the urge to smoke is still there. Asked the doc what he thought and he gave me them no problem. Did tell me to take the full lot for 3months, the last pack is like the first 1mg and 0,5mg and you end by taking the final week of 0.5mg dose. Like the first week but in reverse. By that time I should be so out of the habit of smoking I won't miss it.
Must admit this has been the easiest way to stop - I was true addict could not imagine being Not smoking after smoking most of my life. Have 1month left to take of Champix and I am going to take them all to give me the best chance. No stopping early for me or it might give me the excuse to start again. No am taking the lot and am determined to do it this time.!!

coco68 · 17/04/2011 12:34

Hello nanatothree, I stopped around 10 days after you,am doing exactly the same as you. Do you have VERY weird drreams? My weight is the same so far .I was a true addict too from an early age when it was fashionable to smoke,I can even remember my midwife after 1st saying what do you want first a cup of tea or a ciggy!!!!!!! I have found it easy to stop also having tried EVERYTHING else. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are
lol.
Hope all of you ladies are still doing well too.

nanatothree · 20/04/2011 19:38

Hi Coco68, I am still not smoking and I am amazed at myself. Still taking the Champix and yes they do give me dreams and I tend to wake up a couple of times, but it is worth it. After a lifetime, like you coco, I am so surprised at trying something that didn't make me crave a cig. Couldn't tolerate any in the house so now I think to myself there isn't any so don't bother thinking about it!
I am going to take full three months just to make sure but find it easier the longer I go, still think I wouldn't mind one now and again but turn my brain away from the thought and go and do something else.
Cannot go back to smoking because of health and couldn't afford the cost so am determined to do it. And don't want to explain to my grandchildren why I smoke!! Keep going coco.

flyby10 · 21/04/2011 10:32

me too ...7 weeks tomorrow and 6 weeks for hubby.

Both of the champix as it made us feel bit odd but I'm not going back! It has been easy to stop...defo cos of Champix...but mentally for both of us been....tough.
We still miss it but are determined not to have to go through this again. I think it would be very difficult to find another time when we were both as determined as the other.
Everyone ...well done. I have to say my main reason for this is the same as you nanaofthree.....for the kids...I didn't want to explain why we did it either or them to watch me die early. That is my main main reason. I know they say do it for yourself...but sometimes its not enough...dam does fags...who ever invented them should have been shot!
Hope all goes well over the weekend. Be strong ladies

MCDL · 23/04/2011 10:48

Hello ladies... Off the chapmpix now n off cigs think bout 3 months now. Finding it more difficult off the champix but the benefits outway the drawbacks by millions. Very fit again, swimming 3/4 times a week. Put on some weight but loosing it again now. Enjoying the beautiful sunshine and been off cigs. Going for a small op on me knee where anesthetic is involved sometime in next few months, looking forward to going under without all the precautions they take when u are a smoker. Heading off to portugal for a five day break on Monday with the money saved from not smoking...

We are all doing great. Keep it up girls ..

MCDL · 16/05/2011 16:04

Hi ladies, how are we all doing, slipping a bit having the odd cig .... Not good, am on the slippery slope to going back on them ...

OP posts:
flyby10 · 17/05/2011 10:33

Hi All,

Am still non smoker and no slips. Am scared if I do thats it...back to square one!
Honest truth... I have felt pretty moody these last couple of weeks...maybe reality is hitting home and I am realising that I really have given up and cant go back. It's not like I crave them. I just find I have nothing to turn to when excited or stressed...I mean I still like a few glasses of wine but it doesn't have the same effect as a fag and obviously not something you would do first thing in the morning! LOL...
I think it's nearly 3 mths for me so maybe its that 3 days 3 weeks 3 months thing going on?
I have thought about having a drag though...I am hoping I wont succumb!
MCDL - you were my guru.....dont go back...you will have to hide from the kids again...bla bla bla!!

coco68 · 18/05/2011 09:59

Hi Ladies, Yes MCDL you were doing sooo well, please please try. Wonder how nanatothree is?
Im doing fine on my last week now of Champix and feeling strong. I was so happy and proud of all of you, keep at it for us as well as yourselves.

nanatothree · 19/05/2011 19:39

Hi all, Still smoke free. Have no Champix left so seem to have more of the thought of smoking but not giving in. Its a very quick thought like sitting in the sun in my lunch hour from work when I definately would have some. Or maybe when bored to tears! But... have not given in and to have my grown up son and daughter say they were so proud of me well.... you just can't give in after that can you?

DeepThoughts · 19/05/2011 22:45

Still smoke free here.
I still think of smoking sometimes...mainly when I am hungry or if I have not enjoyed my last meal ha ha, I don't know why food is a massive factor for me. I wont say its been easy, i have had bad days where i find myself fantasising about smoking. There is no way I am going to have even one puff of a cigarette (I was even offered one a couple of weeks ago) Id be afraid that I would want the rest of the packet. I would hate to have to go through them first few weeks again.
I have been off the champix for about 3 weeks, so I actually feel like my old self again.
One thing that I cannot understand is my sleeping pattern since stopping smoking. I started taking an afternoon nap soon after stopping (I blamed the champix for this). But the tireness has continued, I even go to sleep much earlier in the evening...often before 12pm. It isn't so much of a problem as I feel well rested ha ha.

coco68 · 21/05/2011 17:31

I am having the same problem as Deep thoughts with feeling tired alot more and also going to bed earlier. I have 6 more days on 1mg daily, I do still get yearnings for a smoke but knowing how very much I am saving is spurring me on. I dont have young kids or even very young grand kids and have always been healthy ,for me it was purely financial plus knowing I was in the minority still smoking.

Are you all finding a constant hunger, and like me indulging, maybe it's really wanting to smoke instead.

No giving up though ,it's all been very trying and now the end is in sight,I think i'm expecting some sort of miracle to happen when the Champix are gone and I will still not need nicotine!!!!!!

ThatsNotYours · 21/05/2011 21:58

Tried Champix in December 2008. Quit Jan 09. Not smoked since! X

manticlimactic · 23/05/2011 16:50

I'm just about to set off to the Stop smoking clinic. Wish me luck. Smile

20 a day + smoker here. Need to quit.

My friend has stopped on Champix, she started on them A week ago. We went out on Saturday and she tried to have a ciggy she took one drag and was gipping for an hour!

coco68 · 24/05/2011 15:33

manticlimatic. Good luck. the Champix are brilliant, few days more and the 12 week course is over. Have no desire at all now, just be a bit careful of a sweet food craving, choc, biscuits etc..as the weight will go on fast.
I was advised to try boiled fruit sweets which do help.

lol
