Hi, anybody try this or know anybody who has.

pipsqueak · 28/02/2011 23:24

i gave up about 2 year ago after using cchampix . had smoked for 25 years Blush no ill effects at all . definitely go for it. good luck !!

flyby10 · 01/03/2011 10:27

I'm on day 7. so tomorrow I start two tablets twice a day.
I am hoping this is the real extra push for me to say which day I will quit.
I am still smoking 6 or 7 a day and I agree it is very much the habit and I am putting them out half way through and feeling very disappointed I bothered. It's like smoking silk cut with loads and loads of holes in them!!
I am still thinking about smoking, I supose I am just aware that 'it's time'!! I do feel a little short tempered and that I'm missing out. Husband starts his tonight so yesterday watching him go in and out was a bit annoying and am slightly getting off on the smell of him....LOL...he doesn't smell of a disppointed fag!!!! LOL LOL.

I think it will help when he is on champix as well.

So...today's conclusion...am smoking less, nervous about quit day...little moody but not out of control, dreams bit strange, feel bit flat but still scrapping every last emotion together to be positive and think of all the benefits...I mean lets face it there isn't one single benefit to smoke is there?!

MCDL · 01/03/2011 13:36

Not one single benefit ..... Didnt get a chance to buy more pills yet today ... not craving cigs ...

OP posts:
flyby10 · 01/03/2011 14:19

only smoking 2 fags so far today...normally had about 6 or 7.
Too be fair not really craving them...just habit that I keep thinking about popping out for one.

DeepThoughts · 02/03/2011 09:49

I am on day 2 after stopping, yesterday wasn't too bad at all, I am confident that because of the champix any urges are completely in my mind.
What I did before stopping was master my 2 'important ciggies' morning, and after my evening meal. So whilst I was nearing my stop date I put off these two just for an hour or so to prove to myself that I could do it.
Then when I finally chose to stop It was because I actually knew tht I didn't 'need' them, I just wanted them.

Well today feels pretty good so far, didn't have a single urge this morning and actually felt relaxed whilst getting ds ready for school.

I think the fact I had cut back so much on e champix has made the whole process much easier.I have 2 more packs of champix now for the next four weeks, and believe me I will not miss a single tablet. I thought I would never be able to stop.

One thing I have found hard was like I felt I needed to replace the figs with something else, dh bought me lot of chewing gum, it did help, but there was still seeming to be an empty feeling. This seems to be passing already...

Good luck flyby, you will know when the time is right for you. I actually stopped on day13 of champix.

flyby10 · 02/03/2011 12:15

day 8- on two twice a day.

Depeserately trying to be positive but not cocky...had half a fag on the way to work and have truely not wanted one since...at all since I took the two tablets. I would have found some excuse to get out for one or two....or three!!

I want to say sod it ...might make today my quit day..but don't want to jump the gun...might feel different later today.

Keep you posted

MCDL · 02/03/2011 13:42

Hi flyby.. u will know when the time is right ... I just picked a day it was day 8. Thru cigs into the fire in front of dp .. have not touched one since.. Did not go and get another repeat of tablets yet so managing well without them... 2 weeks tomorrow off the cigs ... The pills were making me really tired and nausea, broken sleep.

Well done to all .. we are doing great ..

MCDL · 02/03/2011 13:44

Can Champix be bought from Boots or does it have to be prescribed by your GP?

MCDL · 02/03/2011 15:01

Hi I have had to get it prescribed by GP in Ireland but may be different in the UK ...

Aaargh at vivid Champix dreams! Blush Blush

I had THE most embarassing one this morning - fell asleep for 15 minutes after the alarm went off (oh shit!) and meanwhile....

Lets just say it involved one of my fellow students who is err, 30 years younger than me... Blush Blush

It left me feeling all peculiar for hours, and I had to sit next to him during a 9.00am lecture this morning.

Please tell me they don't get any worse?

MrsFlittersnoop · 02/03/2011 19:05

Good news is - went 10 hours today between fags - only 2 so far!

Start the full dose on Friday and am aiming to quit completely next Monday when I'm back at Uni. I'll then have 3 days mostly out of the house and away from temptation. DH is doing really well on the Champix too - down from 40+ roll-ups per day to just 2 or 3.

DeepThoughts · 02/03/2011 19:54

Lol at the vivid Champix dreams!
Mine seemed to be a blessing for me this morning.
I was dreaming that I was smoking again, I wasn't enjoying it and I was feeling really bad at myself for relapsing. I woke up and briefly felt so sad, but then felt wonderful when I realised it was a dream....as it's only my 2nd morning after stopping I was amazed that I didn't even crave my morning cig at all.
Mcdl - its the popping away from ds that has made me want to stop, and me trying to make excuses for going out the back, taking out the dog, getting the washing etc... At 20+ a day that's a lot of wandering into the garden, tutut. Also I worked out that if I smoked for say 5 mins a cig and had 20 a day thaen thats 1 hour 40 mins a day smoking. Can you beleive it...madness now when I think about it.
I have been working out all these crazy numbers to give me a positive frame of mind, it helps so much!

I got mine prescribed by the doctor, but she said I had to see a stop smoking nurse first. The nurse did a consultation to ensure I wasn't prone to depression etc as doctors do not like prescribing them to patients with depression.

flyby10 · 03/03/2011 10:46

Check in from me - On day 9 and yesterday had half a fag in morning and half fag in the evening which to be honest i almost pushed myself to have.
Again today had not in half a fag this morning.
So stupid and quite cross I bothered. Tonight I am going to chuck fags out because if I hadn't had any then I wouldn't have smoked for sure. Yesterday I had no cravings at all.So those half fags are total rebellin...trying to test Chmapix!.. I know tis last bit is where you need that bit of will power.
Deep thoughts - totally agree...the amount of times I have stood out in the rain..pretending to let dogs out..washing..check back gate is shut is crazy!
I had mad dreams like you as well. Woke up thought I stank and I mean stank of fags...it was horrible.
I am going to try tomorrow as my actually quit day!
Never thought I'd try that on a Friday..before the weekend! Excuses excuses..but I think/hope I'm ready for new non smoking life.

MCDL · 03/03/2011 11:35

40 today, small celebrations last night, did not smoke although tempted .. Have not had a chance to go get more champix ... Think am ok without ... Thinking less and less bout them everyday goes by ...

Happy Birthday MCDL,

well... on that tick list before you are 40...you can tick off giving up smoking!!
WELL DONE YOU!! I hope I am right behind you.

Quick question...what the hell is going on with the bloated tummy thing? That started last night...really uncomfortable! Anyone had that? Small price to pay I know and I will happily carry on with it if it makes me give up but normally have very flat tummy...I look 6 mths preggers!...Am defo not! LOL

DeepThoughts · 03/03/2011 19:30

Happy Birthday MCDL and here's to a very Happy, Healthy future! :)

Its been 3 and a half days since I smoked and It gets easier and easier!
Here is what I have noticed so far...I love my tea and now whenever I get a craving to smoke I quickie replace it with the idea of a nice hot cup of tea ha ha and its starting to work well now.
I am sleeping loads afternoon nap and a little more that usual at night, I'm not sure if that is my body detoxing or a side effect from the champix...whatever it is it is helping anyway.
I thought the morning cigarette was going to be the worst but so far I only craved that on the first morning. This is a bit gross but my tongue is now looking lovely pink and natural, it didn't before.
Overall I feel so much more relaxed, almost tranquillised, I know I will never smoke again and cant believe how long I did it for.

Flyby10 - no bloated tummy here (well no more than usual). Are you eating more maybe..with not smoking as much?
I nomally get bloated if I eat too much bread or pastries ha ha

MCDL · 03/03/2011 23:00

Thank u for the birthday wishes..

Flyby your day is any day now... DeepThoughts sounds like you are there .... , had a friend around this evening she was smoking was tempted.. if was still on the champix would not have been ... Still un decided whether of not it was a good idea to stop them but they were making me feel very nausea and was not sleeping right on them ....

Off tomorrow and looking forward to swim with dd when collect her from school .... good nite to all ..

Today is the day!
Yesterday after two puffs in the morning I had nothing. I am astonished. Husband was out last night so thought I might be bit sneaky but just didn't want one so I didn't and I had 2 glasses of wine!
Did think about having a few puffs this morning but it passed so quickly it was not an issue.
Desperately trying not to get to confident. But it seems a bit too easy.
I agree Deep thoughts...feel very calm and tranquillised. I can't believe I will never smoke again either.
I also cant believe I have choose FRiday as a quit day. That will be monumental in the diary!!!
Husband is noticing effects as well. He doesn't start double dose til next Tuesday though so I will be interested in his progress as well. Been smoking since he was 12. So 25 yrs.
I have also put £20 in saving account ready for a holiday...cos thats what I have saved already this week. I will probably be sick with embarassment when I see next FRidays savings if I am still not smoking!Which I am determined to do.

MCDL · 05/03/2011 11:44

Fantastic Flyby .....

I have had cravings, did take a drag out of my mother cig to see if was missing anything it was so disgusting, so went got more champix yesterday.. spoke to the pharmacist, and am taking .5mg twice a day now, he feels this is sufficient to keep the cravings away ... Had vivid dreams back last night and very bad night sleep ...

OP posts:
flyby10 · 05/03/2011 17:46

I did quit properly yesterday. Last puff was Thursday at 8am. Been really really really ok until... this afternoon and had that horrible 'missing it' feeling.
This is where the will power cuts in.

It will cos the great news with champix is... No hit of the fag... It tastes pants! So no point giving up.

Another reason to tough it out is my parents are up next weekend and it would be so so rewarding to not be smoking! They are constantly on at us to give up.how great to surprise them. Should be to grumpy by then.. I am very slightly short tempered!

Think I'll just get early night and tuck another non smoking day under my belt!! Lol

MrsFlittersnoop · 05/03/2011 21:44

Stopped smoking completely yesterday. Am now taking full dose - 2 x 1mg per day. Feel quite rough for about an hour after each tablet - queasy, spaced out and woozy, with occasional bad headaches. Have also been v. irritable .

DH has also just stopped smoking completely. We had a ridiculous shouting match at lunchtime today (over the correct way to boil an egg FFS!) which resulted in DS (14) yelling at us to shut up because we were acting like children Blush.

The side effects are certainly outweighed by the benefits though. After being quite a heavy smoker for 30 years I have no fag cravings at all! Have also lost my appetite (Grin) and oddly enough, my normally excessive tea consumption has decreased dramatically too. Anyone else getting dehydrated?

MCDL · 06/03/2011 11:25

Yes dehydrated also .. no interest in tea, drinking fizzy water, gallons of the stuff ....

TheVisitor · 06/03/2011 11:31

My last cigarette was 9th March 2010 thanks to Champix. I've not looked back and find the smell of fags absolutely disgusting. My skin is clear and bright, my sinuses have cleared, I sleep better and I can walk up hills without getting out of breath. Keep going, all, it's so worth it.

flyby10 · 07/03/2011 09:36

Morning All,

Well am still non smoker but have been bit short tempered and if honest truth have missed it abit. It is always around teatime. Probably when the kids...bless them seem to be at their most annoying!Seems to be 'no 5 minutes off time' anymore if you know what I mean!
I am due on at the weekend so bit of PMT is probably in the mix there somewhere.

I think I will be ok. On day 5 now so can not go backwards now. This is the longest I have ever gone!

Anyone got any advice. Does this bit pass quickly. Is it just a weekend thing? Or is this where the will power really has to come into play?

Tablets make me feel pretty zapped out and sick as well. I eat with them so heaven knows what I'd be like if I had them on an empty stomach!

Anyone else had tricky weekend?
