to be honest i'm still confused as to why he can't eat solids - is something physical stopping him or do they think it's purely psychological/aversion stuff? sounds like it's used to stop reflux and to stop excessive vomiting which would be good. maybe with it all settled down he would be in a more comfortable position to then be able to focus on getting onto solids and confidence with food?

i'll shut up now.

do you think there should be an age limit then?

I have showered, DD is fed and dressed.

Need to pop to Tesco later to get dinner - no idea what.

Mouse, not ignoring the issues with Nemo's surgery, I just don't feel like I know enough to have an opinion. From your link it looks like a positive thing, but I don't live your life.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 24/11/2010 14:34

stay stopped dubs! opportunity might not come along again. hope you get some sleep.

sorry mouse - guess i'm looking at the positive angles because you said you were worrying about the negatives so i auto went for balance. i'm also desperate to hope there is a way to a better life for you and nemo x

bitter i saw and then completely forgot that you picked up the faraway tree books - thank you! will give you cash when i see you. have ordered stuff from that place you recommended for stocking fillers too.

Mouseface · 24/11/2010 14:42

SAf - I don't think that there should be ANY limits depending on circumstance. I think each case should be treated as individual.

Re the eating - Nemo has severe sensory feeding disorder.

Again, something that I don't know that much about. Some theories are it would imporve without his feeding tube in his face.

It's not linked to his cleft palate so it is assumed (not by me) that it is a psychological block. No proof of that of course.

Let's move on now, you must all be bored of Nemo. Smile

Dubs - glad you went to school today and enjoyed it. Sorry that you are still not better lovely xx

Bitter - no worries. xx

ok but just wanted to pass these on in case you hadn't seen them, quite good info from bupa here and info re: children

now i'll shhhh. not bored at all but don't want to stress you out.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 24/11/2010 14:52

ok, little bit more moaning i'm afraid - i feel sick and like the only thing that will fix it is eating, feel better as i'm eating then start feeling sick again.

doing my head in!

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 24/11/2010 14:54

Peppermint tea or ginger biscuits saf. Or suck on polos.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 24/11/2010 14:58

last one sorry mouse

Mouseface · 24/11/2010 15:12

Thank you Saf xxxx

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 24/11/2010 15:50

ok i've managed to clean and hoover downstairs. might give myself permission to collapse for a bit now.

anotherbrickinthewall · 24/11/2010 15:52

my quick thoughts re:nemo - I may be projecting but you sound as if you don't feel 100% convinced that the medics know what's behind the feeding issues - so that in turn affects how much faith you can have if they do recommend an op. maybe you need a second opinion (e.g from GOSH who have a sensory feeding problems type clinic).

but I will shut up xxx

Mouseface · 24/11/2010 16:01

Not at all Brickie - no shutting up required. Smile

The problem that I face time and time again, is that all of his heathcare proffs have an opinion about things that are not their area, if that makes sense?

So his community pysch has an opinion re his eating, his gastro doc an opinion about his cleft and so on.

So I am the one who constantly gets conflicting advice/options.

He has a SALT that specialises in feeding disorders but she says I am doing everything I should be so has backed off, clearly feeling as though there is nothing she can do.

More often than not, as you have all said recently, because I am more than happy and capable of plodding along, caring for Nemo myself full-time etc...... people just assume that I always am.

They leave me to it. It's not until I hit a blip and ask for help/advice etc that anyone thinks to 'check'.

Sorry. Waffling.

have been snoozing on sofa with mole chops. Why are we all so knackered? God come January I'm going to be dead if I have to be up all night and then at work Sad

Sky plused jk will put on in a tick.

Bitter - totaly forgot this the other day but while watching some programe on the Seven Sins - Gluttony, they were talking about children that 'raid the fridge' they said they might have an abnormality in their one gene, lectin i think it was called Confused just suddenly wondered if ds had a lectin (whatever the hell that is) deficiency? Yes, I'm about a good a doctor as Gillian McKeith Grin

mousey = yes makes complete sense - what you want is someone who says - actually I see a child like nemo several times and day, and often x/y/z helps with them, and this is what is likely to be happening. problem is of course it's easy for me to say - get a second opinion - but even if you got a referral on, there would be the inevitable delay factor...

brian - leptin I think you mean?

double - yes I know - if I don't answer the door that means bog off!

Mouseface · 24/11/2010 16:43

Exactly Brickie. Tick tock tick tock..... weeks, days and bloody months waiting to see people. Do you know we've been waiting 6 months to have his eyes tested for Stickler Syndrome.

'Nemo is on the waiting list' is what we get told. So our hands are tied most of the time.

Anyway, how is DS?

OP posts:
SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 24/11/2010 16:53

and lectin deficiency is associated with frequent unexplained miscarriage bitter!

interesting.

hmm wonder if leptin is something different will look

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 24/11/2010 16:56

hmm leptin associated with thyroid.

out of curiousity bitter, with the dc's being small and not gaining weight in chart fashion did they ever look at their thyroids?

tangent sorry.

leptin deficiency is usually associated with obesity though and both of bitter's dc's are very, very wee.

MittzyBittzyTeenyWeeny · 24/11/2010 17:06

Hello, completely useless today Hmm And now DD is very weepy and emotional so am doin lots of TLC type stuff

Back later if I can xx

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 24/11/2010 17:07

Back from hell tesco.

Never had their thyroids checked, but although they didn't fit the charts it was obvious they both put all their growth into growing up not out.

They have my build and their fathers height.

Might be worth looking into, although (fingers crossed) DS is growing out of it as Pops Grows into it.

Dubs, hope you feel better soon x

BrianAndHisBalls · 24/11/2010 17:30

can't remember whether lectin or leptin i was half asleep when i watched it. Just thought it was interesting because they mentioned taking from the fridge in particular and knowing the size of that tiramisiu i thought maybe there could be an underlying cause. There again probably not, probably just something they go through then grow out of!

dubs - stop skiving. Its time for 3 in a bed! yay!

BrianAndHisBalls · 24/11/2010 17:31

miitz - feeling your pain Sad dd1 was like that yesterday and today dp has come super grumpy.

I can't catch up today... Sad

But is DS not doing so good Bitter?

The problem I think with my DD is very low level bullying. There is a girl that is alternatively possessive with, and mean to her and yet wants to be friends. DD can't cope and tries to play with easier people and this girl tries even harder. She burst into tears over something tonight which just isn't like her..

But she is my birthday girl tomorrow so Smile lots of hugs and cuddles and treats.

Off to tackle a mountain of homework and entertain my baby girl Smile
