It's mostly my hand that got burned, but I am trying to be positive about it because: a) it was my left hand and I am right-handed and b) it actually doesn't hurt too much anymore (as long as I don't bump it). There were many amusing people at the A&E.

As for the job, I completely hated it anyway, so it's nice to know I won't be there forever (just 3 more months!). I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do though. I don't want to be an IT contractor (which is the obvious move), and I really hate working full time. There doesn't seem to be much out there for part time/job share situations.

I kind of wonder if we could afford for me to stay home during the day and take DS out of nursery, but I suppose it would be even harder to get back in to a job after a few years off (and I went back because the maternity money ran out, so I need to make at least £500/month just to cover bills). I don't even know if I'm eligible for anything like jobseekers allowance if I don't find something before the contract is up.

arrgghhhh. DH is nagging that it is time for bed. I guess I will go, I'm not going to find a job tonight! Any suggestions on where to look gratefully received. I've worked in the NHS so long I've forgotten what else is out there.

Jaq - well done on getting out walking tonight.

Portia - is your bro normally a twat? I got a bit worried reading the replies before your post that it was your DP you were talking about, as that's not like you at all!1

Mousey - sorry you've been having a tough time with pukey mini mouse, hope you got some sleep last night.

Yank, hope your arm has been ok overnight, not too painful. v sorry about the job. fixed term contracts also v. precarious at my workplace too.

TotalChaos · 13/07/2010 07:33

Yank - re:job suggestions - presumably you wouldn't want to commute to Manc or Liv? and how attached are you to staying at your current professional type level - just wondering if an evening shop/bar job might be worth considering if you avoid nursery fees. other thing to take into account is tax credits (don't know if you get those), and how much that is likely to help in both short term and longer term.

Lizzylou · 13/07/2010 07:37

Good morning all

Yank, so sorry about the job and also your burn, hope it's OK today.

Jaq, well done on the walking, brilliant that you can see an improvement in your fitness already. Have a lovely day today.

Portia, your brother was out of order, hope you get to see the studio soon

Glad your DD's play was good Mouse, I love things like that. Like Double I always cry.

Went to gym last night, then got back to DH stressing massively. He'd had a bad day at work and was stressed about that then was trying to find details of our travel insurance and couldn't. I came in, looked at the screen and it was right in front of me! He is such a stresshead at the moment, can't cope with work + trying to prepare for a holiday anyway other than his parent's caravan. So I'll have to do it all I suppose

I hope everyone is well and happy this morning.
How are you Total?

TotalChaos · 13/07/2010 07:50

fine Lizzy, ta. am "looking forward" to my worst day of the work week - several hours solid phoning (appointment reminders). as you know I don't enjoy the phone at all!

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 13/07/2010 07:58

Morning

Yank, so sorry about your arm, but your job was making you so stressed and poorly perhaps it will turn out to be a blessing in disguise in the long run?

Jaq, brilliant that you can fell a difference in your fitness already.

I have been rubbish the past few days, must step it up a gear - I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks - eek!

And I am yet to get an outfit - must trawl the online stores later.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 13/07/2010 08:05

Morning everyone.

Yank sorry about your arm and your job.

Portia your brother is definitely being a knob. He needs to be reminded that whilst he is a tenant in dp's home you are a guest with a genuine right to walk in as and when you want, as you have dp's permission.

Even the wii's against me now. Make that six pounds to lose into and eight pounds. Damnit.

And I've got a job interview tomorrow, first in years. I don't want to tell anyone in rl but I'm really quite terrified.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 13/07/2010 08:13

Morning Crunchy, sorry I haven't really spoken to you yet, apart to always comment on your christmas name on 'amusing MN names' threads

Good Luck with the interview

wastingaway · 13/07/2010 08:13

Morning!

Bitter, I've got a wedding in a few weeks too. I'm hoping there's some good sales on. No idea what to wear though.

Ooh Total, don't envy you that.

Whereabouts are you going Lizzy?

Lovely Yank, definitely a situation to look on the bright side of I'd say. Someone told me that having a foot in to the NHS gave you opportunities as you've got the experience, but there's a big range of types of work.
Hope your hand is feeling better today.

It's dry atm, thank goodness, stopping in yesterday morning got me and DS wound up tight.

wastingaway · 13/07/2010 08:15

Hello Crunchy.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 13/07/2010 08:16

That's ok bitter I realise I have crashed the thread somewhat, and expect scorn and rejection

Thanks for the luck, I might need it.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 13/07/2010 08:17

Hello wa

It's dry here too so far, we got drenched yesterday, I hope it stays like this.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 13/07/2010 08:30

Right, off to take the little ones to nursery, hope you all have a nice morning.

TrillianAstra · 13/07/2010 08:30

Morning all. Tea?

Fingers crossed this will be a good motivation to get something that fits better Yank - you hated it there anyway but it's hard to make yourself leave. Now you know that fate has decided you must do something else, whether that is a fulltime job or just something to make ends meet so you can spend more time with DS.

Alicetheinvisible · 13/07/2010 08:33

Morning

Grey here but still quite warm. I need it to rain otherwise either the horses or us will starve come the winter!

Gigi - have a fab day!

Jaq - well done

Yank - i always say things happen for a reason. I know that is not much comfort at the moment, but it may mean that you get to spend more time with ds. Would bar work suit you? I used to love working in the country pubs (good exercise too) I know you are qualified to do a certain job (unlike me) but just wondered if it would help bridge the gap for a bit. Hope your arm is ok

Wasting - more water, less caffeine!

Big hello to everyone else

bellavita · 13/07/2010 08:35

Morning

How is your arm this morning? I am sorry about your job.

Crunchy, what is this job interview you speak about? We need details please..... A year ago this week, I went for my first proper interview in a long time and I got the job. Receptionist part time, term time, in a secondary school and I love it. Just be your normal self and try and relax.

Bitter, do you know what sort of outfit/dress you want?

Lizzy, try not to stress. Holiday stuff is left to me too and I get all

Mouse, did you get any sleep lovely? How is that gorgeous boy of yours today?

Sends love and nice vibes to Jet and Norma.

Jaq, hope enjoy your day out.

Bella, I want a pretty dress, not thought much further than that! Pobably somethiong with a slightly retro feel? Oh, and some Fuck-off heels. And Spanx probably!

Thinking MadMen- esque.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 13/07/2010 08:42

Right, School run, back later.

bellavita · 13/07/2010 08:46

Arm and job was to Yank (doh)

Bitter, my friend has just bought a lovely dress from Mint Velvet for a wedding. It is the kind of dress that she can dress up with heels but then also wear on holiday with fit flops. Mint Velvet do online too. Phase Eight clothes are lovely, or what about Monsoon?

OP posts:
bellavita · 13/07/2010 09:04

Biiter - what about this?

this is lovely too

I love this

this is nice

Alicetheinvisible · 13/07/2010 09:08

Love that red dress!

wastingaway · 13/07/2010 09:12

Ooh, they're lovely! I love the grey one. Bella, you have impeccable taste.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 13/07/2010 09:12

Ooh, Bella - you're good.

Like the first one but not keen on the satiny material.

I can't wear maxi dresses, they make me look about 4 foot tall, rather than my normal statuesque 5 foot 3

Love love LOVE the red bow dress - spot on. But it's out of stock!

Not keen on ruffles, but a pretty colour.

It's going to be a long day, isn't it

bellavita · 13/07/2010 09:22

any good?
