...even though I'm not remotely left wing? I think he was treated appallingly by the Labour Party.

He supports Palestine and always has.
He stands up to the mud slinging dished out by extremists.

Glad he won!

I mean... if Islington wants him as their representative they are welcome to him. I think he's a dim ideologically fuddled antisemitic piece of trash.

This

hopscotcher · 05/07/2024 13:52

YANBU, I enjoyed seeing it happen.

ProfessorPeppy · 05/07/2024 13:53

YABU.

Corbyn is a self-serving, vain man. He isn’t interested in winning hearts and minds, he only speaks to people he agrees with on topics of interest to him. Labour got rid of him because he’s an anti-Semite.

He’s also partially responsible for Brexit.

Hoppinggreen · 05/07/2024 11:39

Well I am neither jewish nor from Islington so I don't care either way.

We should all care about antisemitism.

you don’t have to be Jewish to not want someone who calls an Islamist terror group his ‘friends’ and was found (by an independent review) to be at the heart of a party plagued by division and discrimination.

First they came for the [insert here] etc etc.

Anyone who voted for JC suggests to me they’re happy to turn a blind eye to his anti semitism and I think that makes them complicit.

By ‘extremists’ do you mean ‘people who do not tolerate racism and hatred’ ?

Yanbu. He's a hard working politician who actually listens to his constiuents concerns. I think he "gets" the ordinary man and woman on the street, not like the totally out of touch Sunak and a lot of Tories. I also think he's a prinicipled man who has the integrity to stand by what he believes in.

This ☝️

Scout2016 · 05/07/2024 14:02

I know it's comparing apples with oranges to an extent but in terms of votes Labour got fewer this time than under Corbyn. Seems like Tories lost votes rather than Labour winning, and last time some of the brexit bunch stood down to avoid splitting the vote.

piscofrisco · 05/07/2024 14:12

There was never much wrong about him tbh. And he's a great constituency MP. He was fucked over by the Media for the most part and he never recovered.

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 05/07/2024 14:21

OpizpuHeuvHiyo · 05/07/2024 11:46

Yanbu. It will ve a good thing to have at least one genuinely socialist MP.

This, 100%

Sussurations · 05/07/2024 14:25

he really wasn’t cut out for leadership, and he’s antisemitic. It took me a while to realise that he really was, as I didn’t want to believe it. I hope his constituents have voted for him because he’s a good constituency MP. I must say I think it shows a lot of brass neck to stand against your own party, and I don’t agree that he was treated badly by Labour or Starmer, but he has been elected fair and square, as he was for the Labour leadership position.

Aaron95 · 05/07/2024 14:56

DinnaeFashYersel · 05/07/2024 13:46

Hideous and odious man who was responsible for condemning us to extra years of Tory government.

I'm really disappointed he won but at least he's not labour's problem anymore and he can get to fuck.

How do you come to that conclusion? He got more votes in both elections than Starmer just got.

Jimblebells · 05/07/2024 15:29

SkippysEar · 05/07/2024 13:46

He hates everyone equally.

No that's incorrect. He is quite fond of Putin, hamas and Iran. Other other than that though you are correct.

Aaron95 · 05/07/2024 14:56

BUT HE DIDN’T WIN.
Whether you get 10% or 100% of the votes, it doesn’t matter. He never campaigned nor fought in a way that meant Labour had a chance of getting enough seats to take parliament. Number of votes means very little in the UK voting system.

Anyway, with bit of luck he’s entering his Biden era and this is the very last time Magic Grandpa gets the gong.

Veryangryboy · 05/07/2024 15:43

YABU, he's a tankie and an anti-Semite.

blackcherryconserve · 05/07/2024 15:51

Aaron95 · 05/07/2024 11:33

Labour got less votes (both total and %age) yesterday than they did in the 2017 election when Jeremey Corbyn was leader.

I think you are missing our the massive election loss of 2019 when he was leader.

My thoughts exactly.

ThatMauveSnake · 05/07/2024 15:55

I was initially excited when Corbyn won the leadership but ultimately came to the conclusion that the anti-semitism claims were valid.

The book foreword, the “no sense of English irony” comment, defending that mural…

Explanations are always offered but if I wouldn’t accept it from Trump, Farage or whoever, then I’m not going to accept it from the leader of my preferred party either.

blackcherryconserve · 05/07/2024 16:02

TryingToSeeTheFunnySide · 05/07/2024 13:32

Funnily enough, I watched that yesterday! On the run up to the exit poll, to get me in a political mood. I wish his critics would watch it with an open mind.
JC is not, not ever had been, or ever will be, an anti-semite. The opposite. He's spent his life fighting racism. It was a completely deliberate smear campaign. It was such a terrible thing they did to such a good and honourable man 😔

He is an antisemite. That is racism.

decionsdecisions62 · 05/07/2024 16:04

Can someone just tell us exactly what he has done or said that has him labelled as anti- Semitic?

As far as I can see from that document it's still not bloody clear exactly how JC is anti semitic? Except maybe it needs to polish up its complaints procedures!

blackcherryconserve · 05/07/2024 15:51

It was hard to miss. But my point is that Starmer has not won this election. Labour only won because the Tory vote was split with Reform.

grumpypedestrian · 05/07/2024 16:10

YANBU. It was the highlight of the election for me.

No other MP continues to fight for social justice when they lose an election, he genuinely cares.

The anti semitism accusations are tired lies now and it’s sad to see people still believing this.

He’s calling for a Gaze ceasefire while Starmer continues to support it.

That’s because he wasn’t anti semitic as people claim. It was a distraction tactic during his campaign.

Likesomemorecash · 05/07/2024 16:13

I'm pleased for his constituents. He does that job incredibly well.

Mouswife · 05/07/2024 16:13

yabu.
