...even though I'm not remotely left wing? I think he was treated appallingly by the Labour Party.

Another one delighted for Jeremy - he's a marvellous man.

I mean... if Islington wants him as their representative they are welcome to him. I think he's a dim ideologically fuddled antisemitic piece of trash.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

TryingToSeeTheFunnySide · 05/07/2024 12:15

YADNBU! I'm overjoyed he won his seat. I am left-wing, and I love the guy.
He was indeed treated appallingly. Deliberately smeared, and accused of the very thing he's always opposed.
He's a truly good man.
I'm hoping the right of the Labour Party have learnt from this, and from Green gains, how much they've alienated those of us on the left.
Go JC!

Icanttakethisanymore · 05/07/2024 12:17

I'm glad too and I was no fan of Corbyn as the Labour leader. I think he is a good constituency MP and I think it's good to have views from the left represented in parliament.

This. The level of Jew hate in the uk is horrifying

Marvelo · 05/07/2024 12:20

He's really popular locally and is a great constituency MP.

MissyB1 · 05/07/2024 12:03

Could you elaborate on that? As in the exact views he holds that are anti semitic, and your evidence for that?

Here's your starter for ten:

And this is my personal favourite:

I do think that there are good constituency MPs who are effective in representing their areas and getting stuff done. Where I live (not Islington), some of our local councillors are of this ilk, and I see the good that they do and vote for them again and again because I have seen the positive impact they make locally. It may be that at play with Corbyn for all I know. Here's hoping.

Can someone explain briefly what happened between JC and the Labour party? I was out of the country at the time is all happened and wasn't following along with UK politics.

There was an investigation into antisemitism in the labour party (looking at the period when JC was leader) which was published after Starmer had taken over. It was pretty damning. JC didn't entirely accept the findings and instead argued that claims of antisemitism under his leadership had been exaggerated. Starmer suspended JC to disputing the findings of the report and he was later expelled. This enabled Starmer to show the country that the labour party had changed under his leadership and to make a clean break from all the claims of antisemitism that had dogged the party under JC.

cupcaske123 · 05/07/2024 12:31

Under Starmer is was found that Jewish members of the Labour Party are almost 13 times more likely to be expelled for supporting proscribed left-wing groups than non-Jewish members.

Jewish Voice for Labour (JVL) also said that Jewish members of the party were six times more likely to come under investigation for antisemitism than non-Jews.

My daughter is 23 and absolutely love JC. She was so happy he got his seat

I found this documentary worth watching. Obviously it has a clear slant in Jeremy's favour but I don't think all the members they interview can be conspiracy loons, they seem reasonable grass roots Labour supporters who had been putting the shift in for years and were horrified by how things unfolded. And I believe some of what the film alledges to have happened in terms of internal sabotage. It's by Platform Films and called OH, Jeremy Corbyn - The Big Lie in case the link doesn't work.

'Oh, Jeremy Corbyn - The Big Lie'

This is the story of the rise and fall of Jeremy Corbyn and the forces that brought him down. The film was launched in January 2023. Despite huge establishme...

Funnily enough, I watched that yesterday! On the run up to the exit poll, to get me in a political mood. I wish his critics would watch it with an open mind.
JC is not, not ever had been, or ever will be, an anti-semite. The opposite. He's spent his life fighting racism. It was a completely deliberate smear campaign. It was such a terrible thing they did to such a good and honourable man 😔

SkippysEar · 05/07/2024 13:40

He's a ghoul! ALways hated the monarchy and straight up disrespectful to all servicemen.

Jewish Voice for Labour were a Momentum-style Corbyn-support group who were consistently on the side of antisemites, like Chris Williamson.

DinnaeFashYersel · 05/07/2024 13:46

Hideous and odious man who was responsible for condemning us to extra years of Tory government.

I'm really disappointed he won but at least he's not labour's problem anymore and he can get to fuck.

noblegiraffe · 05/07/2024 13:47

What did Jeremy’s ‘friends’ Hamas go on to do?

Well he is a socialist so of course doesn't agree with monarchy.

However he did say he would never try and eradicate them because he would rather support the working class and fight for them instead of fighting a fight he won't win.

God what a bastard.

Agree and I apply that those celebrating the antisemite too.

Jimblebells · 05/07/2024 13:49

The guy is a total idiot and doesn't deserve a place of responsibility. Antisemitism was rife through his party, he had a bunch of thugs in momentum pushing him forward, was an extreme left socialist. Not good for the country, antisemitism maybe acceptable but if he was anti lgbt or anti another race he would be unacceptable to everyone. No space for this type of person in todays acceptance of all, sorry.
