Just that. What do you think?

I mean, it's the same guy who was already the MP for that constituency. I don't think the sky is going to fall (or that anyone's going to be able to make dinner for 10p) any time soon. Reform's basically UKIP, and they have also had MPs...

Dinner for 10p, I might just manage a potato and a smidge of butter 😊

I’m not surprised at all. I know Ashfield well, because I grew up a few miles down the road. Lee Anderson is a local man. An ex-miner who represents a ex-mining area. He sounds, acts & speaks like the people he represents, and he shares their views. Isn’t that what an MP is supposed to be?

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware of his background.

Is it Northants?

There's a couple of towns that way that feel sort of weird and anachronistic and demographically anomalous (when you compare to places 20,30, or 40 miles in any direction).

Cretins is a similarly ableist term, FYI. I know it's not as widely known as it should be.

I did not know this, in my area the meaning is widely understood as simply 'moron' or similar, and upon further reading it seems the dated meaning of it used to be derogatory towards people with impairment as a result of thyroid deficiency which i was not aware of. I am unable to edit my original comment so I will simply state my amendment here to be 'horrible person'

I agree completely that is what an MP should be. If he supports everyone, everyone, in his constituency, I'd support him for a future PM!

Clacton....

I blame the Tories for stirring up hatred and suspicion and paving the way for a party like Reform.

I blame labour for not being a viable option for so many people! The tories are so awful they literally had an open goal and still thousands of people don't trust them ( deservedly so imo)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/07/2024 03:29

Farage's result now. He's won. What a bummer.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 03:29

I didn't know until a few years ago either @lucylulululu

But I thought I should say because you were so right about their gross ableism?

(Does anyone else have autocorrect always trying to change that word to "lesbian"? It's going to cause such confusion one day.)

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 03:31

So Reform first and Tories second in Clacton. And the swing is pretty much straight from C to R, with no real change in the vote for other parties.

I do think he is out only for himself, not really wanting to improve people's lives. Happy to be proved wrong...

Ugh, Clacton.

Lara333 · 05/07/2024 03:35

Awful, scary speech Nigel.

Hate the thought of ‘we’re coming for you, this is just the start of the swell’.

And yes, I am excited about a change to Labour, don't speak for me.

BananaLambo · 05/07/2024 03:37

30p Lee 😂😂😂 I have to say, Reform have done a fantastic job of splitting the Tory vote and handing a massive majority to Labour on a silver platter.

Nottinghamshire. The constituency covers the towns of Sutton in Ashfield & Kirkby in Ashfield. It’s a very traditionally working class, very white ex-mining area which voted strongly for Brexit.

BananaLambo · 05/07/2024 03:39

We always knew Farage would win Clacton. I’m sure he will be a great advocate for the residents there 😂😂😂

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 03:46

Nottinghamshire

Ah.

So many bits of the country have just casually been left behind.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/07/2024 03:46

Third MP now. Great Yarmouth, Rupert Lowe.

Mouswife · 05/07/2024 02:50

I wouldn’t believe everything you read in the papers.
most of the nasty speech you are hearing about is being planned and I seriously doubt the secret recordings are secret. All the parties are trying to shit on each other.

Edited

That comment was actually on Twitter.

Yeah. I trust there are huge numbers of investigative journalists crawling all over them , all their candidates and their Russian links as we speak.

Really? I'll have to find that later, thanks for the heads-up.

Have Hartlepool declared yet?

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 03:49

I hope Labour have some kind of economic rescue deal for, say, crumbling coastal towns ready to go.

Yes, an hour ago apparently. Labour win. Reform second.

Labour gain, I think.
