Just that. What do you think?

@Tryingtokeepgoing oh absolutely, many people voting for Brexit as desperately wanting something to change as felt neglected, and they are the ones most hard hit by Brexit.

TempersFuggit · 05/07/2024 09:48

If the do their best for their electorate that’s why they were voted in, but if they just disrupt things for the sake of it with ridiculous pranks like they did at the EU I will be 😡

StarDolphins · 05/07/2024 09:55

Yes, well done reform. I think there would’ve been more too had they had more candidates. I think they’ll be a threat in the future.

I didn’t vote for them but I know many that did.

Hopefully LP & CP ask why.

They stood 613 candidates. That’s nearly one in every seat.

I’m not sure if that is before or after the 3 they kicked out but told people to vote for anyway.

@whyhavetheygotsomany Of course. Let them be the ones who are thick and stupid. In 4 years times they will be crying out loud.

I look forward to Farage keeping the left mob on their toes.

How will he do that? He will be one of four Reform MPs. Current state of the parties, with two constituencies still to declare, and neither likely to go to Reform:
Labour 412
Tory 121
LibDem 71
SNP 9
Sinn Fein 7
DUP 5
Plaid Cymru 4
Green 4
Reform 4
SDLP 2
APNI 1
UUP 1
TUV 1
Independents 6

Yes, they got a large share of the vote. This didn't translate into a lot of constituencies. When it comes to getting laws passed and affecting how new laws and policies are drafted, you need MPs.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 05/07/2024 11:17

And thank goodness for that, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/07/2024 11:34

Actually, South Basildon and East Thurrock is having a complete recount and results won't be in till this afternoon. Honesty compels me to admit there is a chance Reform could take that one. It still won't put them in a position where they can actually do very much.

(The other outstanding result is Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire, which surely won't go to Reform.)

TheShellBeach · 05/07/2024 11:42

No. They always take ages to declare because many of the polling stations have to send their ballots by air and boat to the place where they're counted.

Yes, I understand the recount is between Labour and Reform, and the latter were ahead by around 100 votes in the initial count, so it's possible it could go that way - hopefully not!

Yes, it always surprises me that that constituency is always last but others with some of the same challenges don't seem to have those issues.

Here we go - https://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/24432622.chaos-full-recount-called-south-basildon-east-thurrock/ - Reform ahead in the first count, but numerous counting errors apparently spotted, so they're doing it again.

Another local news site says there are 126 votes in it, so with enough errors it could be Labour's seat after all - we will hopefully know this afternoon https://thurrock.nub.news/news/local-news/labour-take-thurrock-but-its-too-close-to-call-in-south-basildon-and-east-thurrock-and-a-recount-will-follow-234229

Full recount to take place after South Basildon and East Thurrock 'too close to call'

The decision was made by the attorney officer at 6am after a rebuilding exercise lead to the seat being "too close to call."

@cardibach the picture is very very different in 2024 to 2019, anyone can see that.

Not sure what you are referring to. I do t think I’ve commented on this thread.

Zonder · 05/07/2024 02:30

I blame the Tories for stirring up hatred and suspicion and paving the way for a party like Reform.

Do you mean with Labour in power, who won’t stir this up, support for Reform will drop?

I guess we’ll see

That comment was actually on Twitter.

No it wasnt, because I wrote it and I don’t use twitter

I meant the comment about autistic people being vegetables.
Sorry if I've got mixed up.

HundredAcreOwl · 05/07/2024 14:56

May I ask those who voted Reform, what made you do so? Tactical, protest, other? I am really interested, not trying to stir.

Seriously?
Have a look on one of the countless threads already posted on this subject.

I think Reform voters are like Brexit voters, they don't like to say why they voted for it

Or they pretend they're not a bunch of racist bigots.

Just asking those who posted on this thread.

Fair enough.
You'll get the same answers as everywhere else.
They'll say they're worried about immigration.

HundredAcreOwl · 05/07/2024 15:25

Also fair enough, thank you. Completely derailing thread, love Gizmo and his story...

Protest vote. I'll do it again if nothing changes by 2029

Are they the constituency that set some of record for a long count at the referendum?

I'm struggling to remember what's a redrawn boundary and what isn't.
