Yes, an hour ago apparently. Labour win. Reform second.

Apologies, cross post.

He looked grumpy and bored. There was no big speech. Did he even mention Farage? Surely he should be buzzing at being Reform's first win of the night.ConfusedHmm

Now he will actually have to do some work and will realise when he is sitting at the table that maybe all the shit they spout is not backed up by evidence and that they actually need those horrid foreigners who contribute massive amounts to the country

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 04:02

Labour gain, I think

Ah good. Someone/some outlet had forecast that for Reform.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/07/2024 04:04

Richard Tice has won in Boston. Hopefully that's the last of them.

I did not know this, in my area the meaning is widely understood as simply 'moron' or similar, and upon further reading it seems the dated meaning of it used to be derogatory towards people with impairment as a result of thyroid deficiency which i was not aware of. I am unable to edit my original comment so I will simply state my amendment here to be 'horrible person'

FYI moron is also a ableist term, it was once used in psychiatry & psychology to denote intellectual disability, specifically to describe an adult with a mental age between 7 and 10.

Obviously language changes / evolves & normally I wouldn’t bring it up but given the context of your previous posts I thought it relevant.

Sorry for the derail.

Hotcuppatea · 05/07/2024 04:18

I'm not happy to see Reform gain any seats but I do think the reality of being a powerless backbench MP for the next 5 years will be a huge test to their already miniscule party discipline. I predict they'll go the way of UKIP and be a spent force by the next election.

shittestusernameever · 05/07/2024 04:32

Good.

I sort of needed those horrid, in reality lovely and well more than capable, foreigners after a major op. Can't thank them enough...

Husband was classed as a moron, about 10, very low IQ. IQ test was language based, many years later, he was diagnosed as dyslexic. He has a fairly high IQ 😊

I love election results when they announce them, it's like a very useful map of where never to bother visiting/living. It's always handy to know I can easily avoid the racist, sexist Mr Farage fans.

I'm neither racist or sexist and I voted reform. Don't talk such rubbish

Zonder · 05/07/2024 02:30

I blame the Tories for stirring up hatred and suspicion and paving the way for a party like Reform.

I also think Corbyn and Labour have to shoulder a lot of the blame, for not leading a convincing ‘Remain’ campaign at the time of the Brexit referendum. Division in the Tory party has fed off that. Indeed, Labour’s position on Brexit still isn’t really credible. Why would the EU reopen negotiations?

@whyhavetheygotsomany Of course. Let them be the ones who are thick and stupid. In 4 years times they will be crying out loud.

I look forward to Farage keeping the left mob on their toes.

Why have you voted for a racist and sexist party then?! You're allowed to make your own choices, but don't act surprised when it clearly says something about who you are.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 06:42

Do you mind quickly telling us why @whyhavetheygotsomany ?

I'd love an idea of how many of their voters are true believers and how many are registering a kind of protest by voting for them.

What do you think of the word 'idiot' which was the lowest IQ of the three terms?

No idea why people have an issue with 'moron' when 'idiot' is said left, right and centre causing no offence.

Billyballyboo · 05/07/2024 06:46

Great news Reform have got some seats. It's called democracy, which unfortunately many on Mumsnet seem to disagree with if the results don't match their views.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 05/07/2024 06:54

Have to laugh at the Forest of Dean, loads of reform votes which gave the seat to labour.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper lost by only 278votes.

Serves them right

Gingernaut · 05/07/2024 06:57

Reform haven't done as well as the exit polls suggest they would have done

They were projected as having seats into double figures by the end of the night

Sarah28x · 05/07/2024 07:00

reform hate women and they also called disabled people “vegetables”.

chosenone · 05/07/2024 07:01

I think it clearly tells us that working class people, from poor forgotten areas (Blackpool was close too) are fed up and feel forgotten. I'm a traditional labour voter, working class, industrial family. Lots of people in those areas feel disenfranchised and ignored. These areas are becoming run down and the effects of immigrationnarr very visible.

These communities can be called uneducated/racist but they're still allowed to vote! It unacceptable that only the educated have access to democracy. I just hope Labour engage with these communities so we don't get further swing to the right next election as were seeing in France and other parts of Europe.

I understand where you're coming from, we live in a similar area. But the Tories have done this to our country through 14 years of lies and greed. Reform is just a more harsh version of the Tories, who definitely won't be out to help your average worker. It seems an odd choice for those in this situation.

I think Farage is good at telling people what they want to hear and people believe what they want to hear. The fact it's a load of self-interested rubbish seems to pass people by.
