The Outfit 😎

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2024 23:34

We've been looking at the French election and it's been commented that the UK is out of step with the rest of Europe because we were likely to elect a centre left party when the story has been about the rise of the hard right.

It is now looking as is we are not so different to France and the rest of Europe.

Wake up now about 2029.

I've been saying it for a while. We have five years.

When they arrive in small boats, they're put wherever they're put. And they're not put in cosy middle class villages in the cotswolds or wealthy areas of London!

They're only placed temporarily while their claim is assessed then they're dispersed. Some of the temporary accommodation is in 'middle class' and 'wealthy' areas and not necessarily in cities.

Aladdinzane · 04/07/2024 23:34

The results from Sunderland in %

Bridget Phillipson (Lab) 18,837 (47.05%)
Sam Woods-Brass (Reform) 11,668 (29.15%)
Chris Burnicle (C) 5,514 (13.77%)
Paul Edgeworth (LD) 2,290 (5.72%)
Richard Bradley (Green) 1,723 (4.30%)
Lab maj 7,169 (17.91%)

Labour won a higher % of the vote, the Tory vote was decimated. So Labour gained.

That's where the swing to reform went, against the Tories. The Beeb has mucked up this analysis.

Appalonia · 04/07/2024 23:34

Wow, Blythe is the same, 20 k for Labour and 10 for Reform. Is this going to be a pattern?

Jutemat · 04/07/2024 23:35

Another one where Reform were 2nd to Labour and tories obliterated. Reform have gifted Labour the win nationwide.

whynotwhatknot · 04/07/2024 23:35

reform 2n again

Without Reform the swing to Labour would be bigger.

lazzapazza · 04/07/2024 23:35

I am seeing a scenario where having voted to get the Tories out this year a lot of voters move to reform at the next GE, when Labour invariably shift the country to the left.

The next GE will be extremely interesting.

Has @DistinguishedSocialCommentator resigned from MN yet?

They’ve joined the magic circle and done a disappearing act.

You are the one who brought Lammys colour into this. I was simply using his name as the highest profile Labour MP who is firmly on the side of transwomen.
Stop flinging the race card round - it’s really quite pathetic but so predictable.

Sure Jan GIF

Lol

Cyclingmummy1 · 04/07/2024 23:36

It's Blyth. Just saying.

Another shock result for Reform. It would be interesting if they end up being the opposition. If Labour mess up there could be a massive shift back to the right.

Charlie2121 · 04/07/2024 23:37

Aladdinzane · 04/07/2024 23:25

No, Labour won more votes this time round, the Tories lost more and Reform won significantly more that the Tories. The change in votes is Tories to Reform.

The exit poll suggests Labour has only received 36% of the vote.

If that turns out to be correct it’ll be the lowest winning % share of the vote for over 100 years.

Itisjustmyopinion · 04/07/2024 23:37

That was some hat and outfit that the returning officer had on in Blythe

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2024 23:37

Ebba2024 · 04/07/2024 23:33

RedToothBrush
wigan on that list has been labour for years - I’m almost 60 and never known any difference can’t see it being any different this year

I would be surprised if Wigan goes reform. It's a weird one and although on paper looks like other reform targets it does have a different character. It's hard to explain to people who aren't familiar with the town.

Too close to call - 53% Lab, 47% Con

Wow! Nail biting! Any idea on the time it will be announced?

Petition for all returning officers to have to wear some kind of interesting outfit

I think I'd go for a giraffe onesie.

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 04/07/2024 23:38

Wow. OK. So there's a tactical vote, but then there's a vote for a fascist, racist, misogynistic party. Jesus fucking christ.

Labour will fuck it all up. Tories will go back to hardline Right to steal back votes from Reform, and Tories will come back. Nigel will head back into the sunset.

NotJinxingAnything · 04/07/2024 23:38

Jutemat · 04/07/2024 23:28

The story of the night is Reform not votes for Labour.

This is going to be the analysis of the night I feel, Tories losing all that 2019 gain to Reform, which split the vote and handed Labour the win. Its a hollow victory for Labour but if youre a Labour fan who cares, a big win is a big win. Keir owes Farage a good few pints!

I think a major element will be Labour voters who reckoned Labour were safe anyway so they could vote elsewhere. In a more marginal election Reform might well be squeezed out.

Sometimes they don’t have a choice - thinking of the area I was born in, lots of families were relocated from London by councils into this area for housing.

Yes, people are sometimes relocated to cheap areas with relatively more housing available, but those areas also have fewer jobs and opportunities, and high levels of deprivation.

In Sunderland Labour won 49% of the vote which is higher than last time, which is what I was referring to.
