Ed Davey as Leader of the Opposition is SO CLOSE

The final MRP poll from Survation puts the Lib Dems and Tories within a gnat's whisker of each other.

Sam Freedman says:
'“If any doubt arises as to which is or was at any material time the party in opposition to Her Majesty’s Government having the greatest numerical strength in the House of Commons, or as to who is or was at any material time the leader in that House of such a party, the question shall be decided for the purposes of this Act by the Speaker of the House of Commons, and his decision, certified in writing under his hand, shall be final and conclusive.”

So if one party is clearly ahead then their leader is LOTO. But if it’s more complex - say, the Tories won 75 seats and the Lib Dems 73, and then two Alliance MPs from Northern Ireland said they’d sit with the Lib Dems - well the Speaker will have to get involved and make a call.'

The thought of the Tories losing so badly that they don't even get to be the official party of opposition is within our grasp.

I've heard that the Lib Dems now think they have a chance of winning places like Witney where they didn't think they had a hope at the start.

https://tactical.vote tells you who to vote for to get the Tories out and make them irrelevant.

To be fair Rish! has been out campaigning for the Tory party, and he doesn't believe in them and their policies.

😂

Never said you were, but you've obviously been heavily influenced by right wing propaganda or you wouldn't be posting the way you are.

Do you think you know better than RD about the party? Why has she been out campaigning with other prospective Labour MPs if she doesn't believe in the party?

Oh don't be so daft.

The idea that the only possible explanation for women believing that we are entitled to have a word for ourselves and some single sex spaces and sports is because we've been influenced by right wing propaganda is ludicrous, offensive, misogynistic and downright wrong.

Give your head a wobble.

That's clearly not what I mean.
What I mean is you are repeating anti-Labour misinformation and encouraging others to spoil their ballots instead of voting for any left wing parties. That doesn't benefit women. It only benefits right wing politicians.

Either you are quite happy with that, or you've been had.

I'm not encouraging anyone to do anything. People can vote or not vote however they want.

It's not "repeating anti Labour misinformation" to quote from the horse's bloody mouth. Nobody made them say those things.

Lammy has not called women concerned about single sex spaces "rights hoarding dinosaurs". That's misinformation.

Starmer does not "believe women can have penises". That's misinformation.

A spoiled ballot is not "sending a signal". That's misinformation.

So if Labour pass a new law next week allowing me to be legally recognised as a cat, will I actually be a cat?

Or will they just have passed a nonsense law?

Here's a good example.
Yes you will be legally a cat, and entitled to use cat spaces except where cat biology is important for dignity and safety 😂

You won't be biologically a cat though. Watch Kemi's GMB appearance for clarity from the Tories on the equivalent case, what a woman is

Honestly, I find if you decide on your standards and priorities and then apply them in exactly the same way to each side it all makes it much easier to decide who to vote for.

Evolution is officially going backwards now.

We will have to agree to disagree on all of the above.

But my opinion is based on publicly available information and yours appears to be based on wishful thinking.

Good point, sorry.
I'm desperate for a lib dem opposition. I wonder what that will do for society?

Imagine a PMQs where they aren’t throwing infantile insults at each other with a zoo going on in the background. Like grown ups.

Yes exactly.
Or a parliament that can come up with cross bench policy in the public interests.

I really hope it happens 🙏

Its the best chance for trying to sort out social care, which is a huge women's rights issue.

Absolutely.

Oh god imagine some real politics happening instead of twaddling about Rwanda.

SerendipityJane · 04/07/2024 14:09

Lib Dems being in opposition will make the Reform issue a self solving problem. They and the Tories can fight it out in the obscure back pages of the media where we don't have to hear from them for a few years. I imagine they [Tories] will have a converts zeal for PR, which can be brushed away with no real problem.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2024 14:12

Not having to pay any attention to the endless Tory infighting and leadership wrangling would be lovely. Kemi and Nigel could arm wrestle for it and no one would care.

Kemi who ?

Either way, in six months time, a 3rd placed Tory leader will be paddle-boarding, bungee-jumping, tractor pulling, and any other stunt that can make the press.

The biter bit !

Such a blissful thought. Imagine not finding some fresh hell every time you catch up with the news.

CassieMaddox · 04/07/2024 15:45

Or an actual plan for social care
Or getting the right SEN support in school
Fixing it so you can get help for your child before they try to kill themselves

Some reporting on policies about this stuff will be great
