What are you most looking forward to if Labour win?

Presuming theyre going to win the election, what manifesto promises are you hopeful about?

For me it's going to be their promise to fast track rape trials, providing proper support to rape victims and targeted support within the police for victims of domestic violence.

Let's hope they make it happen.

Really Blossom, do you think that is true? I know people from all walks of life and I wouldn't say the educated (that I know) are Labour supporters. Perhaps the odd one. The ones I know are tory through and through.

My dad and his friends are Labour supporters and they are definitely not educated! Not one bit 😀sorry dad!

My hope is more simple- that things will not get worse.

Similar. As a lefty, I honestly don't feel inspired by the current Labour Party at all. I'm voting Green. I obviously desperately want to see shot of the Tories. But, truthfully, if Labour get a super-majority to do whatever they want (I'm hoping it'll be tempered by significant Green/Independent gains) I don't personally expect a huge amount of change soon. But, if things at least don't get any worse it'll be something.

Dark blue passports.

Oh no, that was Brexit.

HermoineFairfax · 03/07/2024 17:29

I have not lived the online world during a Labour govt so I am quite fascinated how the professional moaners will adapt.

I look forward to an abandonment of the Sunak threads and new ones such as:
The Wondrous World of Labour - thread 1
May Rayner reign forever - thread 2
The world is all youth, freshness and laughter under the lefties - thread 3
Starmageddon never happened tuh - thread 4
Taxes, taxes, get a taxi Starmer - thread 5
Shit! The unions wont pipe down - thread 6
Shit! Women are being told to pipe down - thread 7
Shit! It's all going tits up - thread 8

Knowing there will still be an NHS in 5years time.
Hopefully somewhat improved by then as well.

I like your optimism but I highly doubt this will happen unfortunately.

StarDolphins · 03/07/2024 17:46

I’m looking forward to all the future posts saying what a shitshow it is & that they’re bitterly disappointed.

No good can come of this imo & I’m very concerned about my DD’s future. Yes I was with tories but much more so with Labour.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 03/07/2024 17:55

Turns out I am looking forward to something.

Corbyn losing his seat

You clearly haven't been paying attention to the Sunak threads. We aren't a bunch of starry eyed Labour worshippers - in fact we are a broad church which includes disillusioned former Tory voters. We are all fully aware that the new government has a very difficult job ahead and that it will take a long time and much hard work to repair the damage done to the UK by the Tories. It's going to take years.

Clearly complainers like you may well start threads like the ones you have suggested, expecting a new government to work miracles in minutes.

Whatever you do, don't go to France Lara. It is chaos over there. I was just reading about it in the paper.

I wouldn't be able to go to France anyway. Bloody Brexit…

The thing is @Blossomtoes, people are expecting things to change almost instantly and are filling in the lack of detail coming from Labour with their own narrative. Hence my reference upthread to posters discussing earlier how potholes will disappear under Labour. I have also read people (not on MN) who have hospital appointments next week and seen them be told that there will already be changes evident by then!
The issue isn't so much people who have educated themselves like most of those on the Sunak threads - or to be fair most MN threads - it's the people who are falling for the rhetoric that life will be all rainbows under Labour. They are the ones who are likely to be crashingly disappointed and start discussions such as the ones @HermoineFairfax has listed.

Why mention me when you’ve quoted someone entirely different? 😳

Less hate towards vulnerable people such as those with poor health and disabled people.

More in touch with the general population.

Not sure, this government, with their risky vote to leave the EU and awful outcome to actually do it, makes escaping tricky too!

Any suggestions?

I have family in Australia and a public service profession required there.
Researching Canada.
For lifestyle I would add The Netherlands and Scandinavian countries.

Higglepigglewiggle · 03/07/2024 19:36

I’ll mostly be hoping that they don’t follow
Welsh Labour down the road of destroying the education system. Why would you want GCSE students to study separate science subjects anyway!

OhWhenWillSummerArrive · 03/07/2024 19:38

I’m looking forward to some amazing things happening;

No one ever needs to go to a grammar school or independent school again as the state schools are so wonderful. I look forward to my kid being inspired by great maths teachers

I look forward to my GP giving me an appointment that morning

I can’t wait till my local dentists treat my 2 kids for free

I can’t wait for Amazon, Starbucks etc. to be hammered for tax

For the trafficking gangs in Europe to be smashed, and there being no more perilous journeys across the channel

And finally, I can’t wait for all our homegrown talent, trained up, to flood the NHS

It’s going to be sooo great
