Presuming theyre going to win the election, what manifesto promises are you hopeful about?

For me it's going to be their promise to fast track rape trials, providing proper support to rape victims and targeted support within the police for victims of domestic violence.

Let's hope they make it happen.

I’m looking forward to some amazing things happening;

No one ever needs to go to a grammar school or independent school again as the state schools are so wonderful. I look forward to my kid being inspired by great maths teachers

I look forward to my GP giving me an appointment that morning

I can’t wait till my local dentists treat my 2 kids for free

I can’t wait for Amazon, Starbucks etc. to be hammered for tax

For the trafficking gangs in Europe to be smashed, and there being no more perilous journeys across the channel

And finally, I can’t wait for all our homegrown talent, trained up, to flood the NHS

It’s going to be sooo great

I think you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Specifics, please. There's not one thing i can think of that's improved over the last 14 years for normal working class people like me. So i would like to know specifically, What's going to get worse under labour?

Take a look at what they've "achieved" in Wales. Upped council tax, they've wrecked the education system, they're the only government in the UK to have cut funding to the NHS. You go on believing their promises though. Don't get me wrong, the Tories are crap too, but it just amazes me that people think Labour are going to ride in to the rescue and everything will be hunky dory.

I just really hate the Tories. They are toxic and hate anyone who isn't rich. Just not having them in power will be a huge relief.

Houseplanter · 03/07/2024 20:00

@OhWhenWillSummerArrive I think you know exactly what you'll be getting Wink

Parky04 · 03/07/2024 20:05

The first scandal happening after a week in charge!

What a ridiculous and immature post. I have said it before, posts like this have completely turned me away from Labour. I would no more want to be associated with this type of voter than I would a Reform voter.

verdantverdure · 03/07/2024 20:09

A bit of bloody peace and quiet.

I'm sick of opening my phone and going "Oh god. What now!" every few days.

To be fair, that’s not typical.

No it's not. But I have seen it often enough.

I’m not sure if you’re actually serious, if you are it’s quite scary you believe all this will happen.

Not sure, this government, with their risky vote to leave the EU and awful outcome to actually do it, makes escaping tricky too!

Any suggestions?

I have family in Australia and a public service profession required there.
Researching Canada.
For lifestyle I would add The Netherlands and Scandinavian countries.

How about Northern Ireland? Still part of the UK and it is beautiful. Or New Zealand?

Agree that the Scandinavian countries could be good so long as you speak the language and can afford to support yourself. Norway and Finland - yes if you like a cool climate and I do, so would definitely consider it. Sweden I have heard some awful stories of unrest so would need more investigation.

The Netherlands is going through a lot of far right strife at the moment. Plus they sell women in shop windows and allow drug taking. Last time I was there some bloke was smoking weed at the cafe table to me and it was blowing all over us and the smell was awful - it's a no from me! But you might like it 😀

I cannot wait for the chaos to stop
The endless cycle of scandals (there will be some but much less regularly).
For public services to not be asset stripped.
For rape cases to be heard.
For social housing to be built.

Definitely social housing and hope and security for renters.

Also for some of the absolute wankers that have treated us with sheer contempt to lose their seats.
Oh my days if Jacob Rees Mogg goes I will be happy for weeks

There's an election bingo card doing the rounds on Twitter! Mogg is one of the squares 😁

BurntBroccoli · 03/07/2024 21:08

I'm looking forward to them closing the loophole that still allows trail hunting with dogs.

Babbahabba · 03/07/2024 21:52

Why is it ridiculous and immature to hate a group of people who have such a massive influence over people's lives?

When have the Tories ever acted to protect the poor, vulnerable or disabled? What have they done for the ordinary working class or lower middle class population? When they have they displayed compassion or empathy for those less fortunate?

Babbahabba · 03/07/2024 21:53

And am I even championing the Labour Party or purporting to represent them or the average Labour voter? I'm speaking for myself.

It’s not that. Genuinely I think a lot of Conservatives do not understand how much they are disliked. They, like everyone else, will think they are kind and decent people. To some it is a genuine shock to be told they aren’t regarded that way. A few more never gave a stuff in the first place.

Babbahabba · 03/07/2024 22:04

They don't realise because they live in a bubble completely detached from ordinary people. I also must point out that I don't hate Tory VOTERS. People have the right to vote for whoever they want in a free society. It's the Tory PARTY I take issue with.

Maybe so but I think in 5 years’ time we won’t be too far off of some of the wishes you listed. When the last Labour Government left, I think I’m right in saying that hospital waiting lists and child poverty were at all time lows.

decionsdecisions62 · 03/07/2024 22:50

I'm looking forward to the mass emigration off Tory voting toffs to their second homes abroad. Of course they won't be immigrants there they will be expats!

Meanwhile the adults will be trying to fix the absolute mess across education, health and welfare left by their heroes!

Maybe they don’t get validation from being approved of by holier than thou strangers? Perhaps, how they are ‘regarded’ by others isn’t the be all and end all as they care more about being true to themselves.
Most voters have left high school and don’t think life is a popularity contest anymore.

A general election is the absolute definition of a popularity contest.

Sorry, were you referring to Tory MP’s or voters ‘not understanding how disliked they are’

I'm looking forward to the rest of the country getting 20mph roads everywhere like London and then the eventual pay per mile and as khan recently declared.. more police officers to meet his goal of 1m speeding fines...not more police to tackle knife crime or anything else serious
