Presuming theyre going to win the election, what manifesto promises are you hopeful about?

For me it's going to be their promise to fast track rape trials, providing proper support to rape victims and targeted support within the police for victims of domestic violence.

Let's hope they make it happen.

Well to be fair, the group is not exactly flattering about Labour either, are they? It sounds like a MN thread!

No. But even then the Tory Party are being spanked a Labour so colour less. The perception that the Tory Party are greedy and self interested is one a lot of people have. If the Conservatives want to win again they have to change it.

if you reckon you are losing to someone who isn’t as good as you, then you need to take a good look at why

GingerPirate · 03/07/2024 15:48

Leaving the UK for my country of origin.

People coming to the realisation that it's the same shit on a different shovel and that Labour weren't some miracle cure after all, but just as bad (if not worse) than the incumbents.

How on earth could they be worse?

MidnightMeltdown · 03/07/2024 15:55

But they are already, that ship has sailed in2022!

@qwerty14

Not according to Labour. They want a 'proper windfall tax'

To be honest, if people REALLY - REALLY - think that most Tory politicians came into politics to make themselves and their friends richer, it shows a complete lack of critical thought. It's infantile and silly.
There is plenty of things I could and do criticise about the Conservative Party (this will be the first time I have not voted for them) but if people can't see beyond their own rather simplistic prejudices, there's no hope really.

It always does. That's why the Tories always get back in. Think about it.

May I suggest that one or the reasons your preferred party is not doing that well is the causal dismissal of the perception rather than attempting to address it.

Your post is a good example of why the current Tory Party don’t do well. Until you decide that there is something to consider, then the decline in the vote will continue: you may be a very fine person, but getting people to agree and vote for you is a bigger effort.

Of all Tory politicians ever? No.
Of the current crop? There is a large amount who are showing themselves to be that kind of person. And it's been enabled, look at the scandals like PPE. Money wasted and who did it benefit?

That’s your paranoia isn’t it? I don’t think there is any evidence that Labour are going for peoples homes. They might be interested in people who have more than one.”

We currently have two homes. We’ve been looking for a flat to retire to for several years. My husband is disabled and the stairs in our current “family home” are making life pretty miserable for him.

We bought our flat several months - begging and borrowing 😁 - ago because we knew it was the one and we couldn’t let it go. It’s in Scotland (where my family is from) so we had to pay £18,000 additional tax, which we can claim back if we move in within 18 months. Our family home is up for sale, I hope we can, obviously, heading into retirement 18K back would be hugely beneficial.

If we can’t, though, we shan’t feel the least resentful. It is what it is and if that 18K helps people younger (or less fortunate for whatever reason) than us, all to the good.

No, we’re not “rich”. But we’re obviously “richer” than people who can’t afford one home so fair enough.

Champagnesocialismo · 03/07/2024 16:22

The other point is obvious. The Tory Party couldn’t afford to have this perception during a cost of living crisis. People look at this stuff much more carefully when their own pockets feel empty. I am guessing that does not apply to you much @Katypp but it does to a vastly bigger number of voters. In politics, perception is important.

It's not my party. I did not vote for them.

I think you did. You are the voter who talks about this on the long term conservatives thread?

or did you decide otherwise this time?

Hopefully closing fox hunting loopholes.

You make some good points. I am not a fan of the Tories at the mo and think at the very least, it's time for a change.
I was looking for an alternative party for my vote but the endless rhetoric about how all Tories are in it for the money and how Labour will put everything right by Labour voters on MN has been a real turn-off for me.

Yes of course. My point is that the Conservatives lost your vote. Something in your perception of them? As a long term Conservative it would unusual for you to vote Labour.

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 03/07/2024 16:41

That although there are no magic or quick fixes for the NHS, at least it would be back in the hands of a party that believes in it and hasn't spent years trying to strangle it.

The look of disappointment on their supporters when they realise that nothing much has changed and we're all paying a lot more for the privilege.

NoSnowdrop · 03/07/2024 16:44

I’m really looking forward to having a prime minister and cabinet who thinks some women have penises. Just what we need!

And who needs their pension anyway? I’m looking forward to paying more tax too. So selfish to not want to share our hard earned cash around.

Time for change! Bring it on…

Lara333 · 03/07/2024 16:45

I'm looking forward to being able to plan ahead for a life in the UK.

If the Conservative party are elected again, I'm seriously looking to move abroad. I can't work, in the public sector, here in England, any longer, experiencing our broken public services and the lack, of support for our mist vulnerable.

You would allow anti Tory/Pro Labour comments from a bunch of lay people on MN put you off voting for a party? That sounds highly suggestible and almost childishly contrary. Its not Labour supporters on MN who will be running the country from Friday. Why not read the manifestos and see what the various parties have to say and make an informed decision, rather than vote as an emotionally led response to some randoms on here?

Whatever you do, don't go to France Lara. It is chaos over there. I was just reading about it in the paper.

spuddy4 · 03/07/2024 16:53

The rest of the country dragged into the same shit show as us in Wales and people realising that we wasn't exaggerating or making it up.

And before the who funds Wales argument starts, labour has been in power for well over 20 years here and has seen both labour and conservative governments in their time so the argument is invalid.

HotPipe · 03/07/2024 17:18

BIossomtoes · 03/07/2024 10:38

Exactly. The voting pattern has turned on its head. The more educated you are, the more you’re likely to lean left.

Really Blossom, do you think that is true? I know people from all walks of life and I wouldn't say the educated (that I know) are Labour supporters. Perhaps the odd one. The ones I know are tory through and through.

My dad and his friends are Labour supporters and they are definitely not educated! Not one bit 😀sorry dad!

Wait and see. I’m sure they’ll show you if you give them time. They have during previous governments.

Specifics, please. There's not one thing i can think of that's improved over the last 14 years for normal working class people like me. So i would like to know specifically, What's going to get worse under labour?
