General election 2024

So much talk about Reform, are people panicking?

All across the boards people appear to be scared of just how popular they are.
If it's not panic, then why the desperation to tell anyone voting for them, that they are all racists?
Reform voters BTW, just very interested that no other parry is having such animated discussions. If they weren't becoming so popular, nobody would be talking about it.

Voted Reform by post and influenced everyone around me to vote for them. OP ignore the brainwashed lefties- they can vote for whoever they want. Let's democracy decide!

Are you new here OP?

There have been a billion posts of people up in arms about Labour since the GE was called!

AnitaLoos · 02/07/2024 19:11

I don’t think it’s fair to say all reform voters are thick racists. Some are moderately intelligent

How many seats do you think Reform will get?

My Aunt thinks she's convinced me and my siblings to vote Reform. We just agreed so as not to set her off on a rant!

This is my life with my DM 😂 And she feels sorry for Sunak 🤷‍♀️ I keep quiet.

I have no political home and a stash of reading material to devour before Thursday but I have noticed a bit of a shift towards Reform on social media in the last 2 weeks - even on Mumsnet. There are more people willing to say they will be considering voting for them despite the backlash and personal insults/ name calling this has prompted. What's interesting is to speculate on how many others intend to vote Reform but will not put their heads above the parapet to admit it. Add them to the ones who are open about it and there might be many more Reform voters out there than people think.
It could actually be very interesting on Thursday in terms of numbers and surprises.

@RedToothBrush, at best you expressed yourself extremely clumsily, so no need for eyerolling.

At worst you elided racism and 'political correctness', which is pretty racist.

Yes that's exactly what I did ...

🙄

@CovertPiggery you do you. Who cares? Bring on 05 July Grin

I actually want this. With Farage in opposition, he's loved by the right wing media and so in love with himself, he'll be plenty of opposition for Starmer. It might force Starmer to get tough on immigration and kill off the Reform party. (Which would be fantastic) and return a Tory party purged of the loony right that ripped the party apart in the first place (I'm looking at you Liz) and mend my fathers broken heart.

I've never voted Tory my life, but like the old Republicans pre Trump, we don't need a populist , batshit crazy, climate denying, Pro Putin , Far right instead of a propert centre right party.

Every time Farage says he's "centre Right," Thatcher turns in her grave !

nomoretoriesforme · 02/07/2024 22:35

@mousehole I'm actually not categorically against Labour, I used to vote for them. Reform is tactical vote for me- to threaten the establishment. The unchecked arrogance has to go.. I can't wait for Friday.

I get what you mean, but Reform are very much part of the establishment

Whatever the result of Thursday, whether there are Reform MPs or not, when the votes are dissected, there will be an overwhelming message to whoever is in number 10. The people are not happy with the way the country is going. And if they don't step up and sort out this country, the next General Election could be a landslide in the other direction. Brexit voter, who has no regrets on leaving. It was never carried through properly. Those are the thoughts of the majority of the Leave vote, not that they regret their choice.

Not carried through properly?

We're out of the EU. That - fundamentally - is what the Brexiteers wanted. What were you expecting? The EU leaders to come begging?

The Brexiteers own this shit sandwich that we're all being forced to take a bite from.

It's a fucking disaster. Exactly as predicted.

Almost as predictable as legions of smooth-brained dullards being persuaded to vote against their own interests and that of the country.

Even ignoring the racism (which we shouldnt), Reform are scary because of how economically illerate they are.

Farage cheerleaded for Brexit and then for Liz Truss's mini budget, which were both economic disasters. While no party's manifestos have been entirely realistic, Reform's is easily the least credible.

How people could want them running the country is beyond me.

RubyWinehouse · 02/07/2024 23:42

Sorry, but I guess most of you are watching the news on BBC, ITV and other main stream channels. Have you actually done your own research into Reform UK? I guess not. They are far from racist, look up the Reform candidates, you will see how diverse they are. Also look up Zia Yusuf's speech at the Reform Conference in Birmingham, this lovely multi millionaire Muslim businessman has made the biggest contribution to Reform UK

fruitpastille · 02/07/2024 23:48

I am worried. And it is frustrating when everyone just refers to reform supporters as racist or stupid because it makes everyone keep silent about supporting them. There's no possibility of a calm conversation if that's the opening position. Voting reform is a protest about how things are run.

Hardly anyone admits to voting tory in public but that hasn't stopped them being elected time and time again. Even if Reform don't get many seats it will give them renewed confidence and determination to keep going and be stronger next time.

If you don't like labour or conservative manifestos then reform offer an alternative and people think they are making a point by voting for them. Reform can promise whatever they like in their manifesto safe in the knowledge they won't actually have to deliver it. I mean - what other party is offering to cut nhs waiting lists to zero in 2 years?

I don't think they will get in to number 10 but I think they will do way better than expected.
