General election 2024

So much talk about Reform, are people panicking?

equisetum · 02/07/2024 15:43

All across the boards people appear to be scared of just how popular they are.
If it's not panic, then why the desperation to tell anyone voting for them, that they are all racists?
Reform voters BTW, just very interested that no other parry is having such animated discussions. If they weren't becoming so popular, nobody would be talking about it.

Can you demonstrate they’re not?

er, that's not how logic and reason work doll. You need the evidence for your accusation, not me.

So being against racism is being 'politically correct' - or just 'not being a cunt'?

If you can put aside their racism then you condone their racism.

You’re struggling and starting to look stupid.. is that you CPHQ?! lol..

Im a reform voter, I have an IQ of 156, and I’m married to a Dr.

Insulting me won’t work.

I didn't insult you (in case you thought I did).

Bazinga007 · 02/07/2024 17:49

Look at what percentage of Reform candidates are women, shockingly low compared to the other parties

the default position isn’t that they’re honest truthful and unbiased just because you say it is.

you can be put to proof on that quote easily, and I think you’ll struggle.

try harder

It doesn’t matter.

Their popularity is spread across the country rather than in a few places. I think
they will have very few MPs, if any at all.

Agreed. I'm not worried.

Champagnesocialismo · 02/07/2024 17:51

There have been lots of intelligent racists. Enoch Powell was one. I would not call them stupid. If you want a list of intelligent racists then there is a long list. Not all racists are ignorant, or just don’t know any better.

Parrotcoop · 02/07/2024 17:53

RedToothBrush · 02/07/2024 17:44

I dislike the racism but tbh I'm more concerned about their actual policies and the party set up than the unpolitically correct views.

So tell us about these policies so outstanding you're prepared to overlook the racism you dislike?

Well yes, it's normal to panic when fascists have a chance of power

...that's not even close to what she said.

Redlarge · 02/07/2024 17:58

I think it seems like a lot only because its quite shocking that someone would vote them so it sticks in your mind more if someone says it.

"She said I dislike the racism but tbh I'm more concerned about their actual policies and the party set up than the unpolitically correct views"

So I'd like to know what policies can make a person overlook racism.

No, that’s propaganda intended to change opinions. Everyone I know who voted leave are furious and we’re all voting Reform.

The brexit referendum was 8 years ago.
I don't know anyone who has turned 18 since then who would vote leave now.
Anyway, it's spread throughout the country. Reform could come second in every constituency and not get a single MP.
Hopefully Nigel will head back to America if that happens and get back to supporting Trump.

Ringpeace · 02/07/2024 18:05

I can't wait for Friday when Reform will be booted back into obscurity. Pathetic, paunchy inadequates in Union Jack socks. An entire party powered by divorced-dad energy.

As a female I am scared about what life would be like if they got in.

There attitude to women is appalling

Labour's attitude to women is appalling. They believe some women have a penis.

rolls eyes

The problem is that their policies will make it fuck over everyone who isn't rich in a race to the bottom for the benefit of white male disaster capitalist. The racism means that those who aren't white will also get a double whammy of shit.

The fact the party structure is an appointed CEO rather than having any level of accountability means that it's open to abuses by an individual. Farage is not a nice man. It places too much power in the hands of an individual - that lends itself to authoritarianism. Which again will fuck minorities particularly hard.

Given that the other parties all seem to have their own brain farts with racism, ageism, sexism etc, that's why the racism itself isn't my top concern.

It's the policies that take it beyond the rhetoric.

But crack on with your outrage and assumptions that I'm voting Reform. I'm not. I'm saying there's more to be concerned about than usual with reform.

equisetum · 02/07/2024 18:09

Whatever the result of Thursday, whether there are Reform MPs or not, when the votes are dissected, there will be an overwhelming message to whoever is in number 10. The people are not happy with the way the country is going. And if they don't step up and sort out this country, the next General Election could be a landslide in the other direction. Brexit voter, who has no regrets on leaving. It was never carried through properly. Those are the thoughts of the majority of the Leave vote, not that they regret their choice.

thestudio · 02/07/2024 18:26

@RedToothBrush, at best you expressed yourself extremely clumsily, so no need for eyerolling.

At worst you elided racism and 'political correctness', which is pretty racist.

ladymalfoy45 · 02/07/2024 18:26

If they win a seat it'll be Stoke on Trent. Apparently they had one of the highest number of leave voters in the country.
The city is in a shocking state after the collapse of the ceramic and steel industry.
And by ceramic I don't just mean ' the Potteries' I mean the sanitary ceramic industry as well.
I moved away 15 years ago but every one I know back 'home' told me they voted ',leave'.
They are now telling me they are voting for Reform because the city has , allegedly, the highest number of asylum seekers in the country.
The shopping centre is hemorrhaging concessions.
But my family and friends forget that it was the Tories under Thatcher that closed the mines.
We lost the clothing industry because it was more cost effective to have everything manufactured abroad. According to the Tories.
Rather than asking why people are scared of Reform, start asking why so many people think they are the solution.
They aren't.
They just know they've got a chance of getting in in areas where the Conservative Party have asset stripped industry to the detriment of communities and the country as a whole.

mollyfolk · 02/07/2024 18:32

But sure isn’t that why people are panicking. It doesn’t matter whether they win this or not, the fact that they exist is a worry and the fact that some people believe some of their stated policies to be achievable is also very worrisome. They’ll have pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable to say, and shown (again) that you can campaign on lies to win an election.

like I said I’m not in the UK but I find their existence to be a worry.

Silviasilvertoes · 02/07/2024 18:35

You only have to look at France. It’s good that people are talking about it now. Their racist candidates (or some of them) are being outed and their poll numbers are slipping. The danger would be if nobody was talking about it and they were being accepted as mainstream.

mollyfolk · 02/07/2024 18:38

@Silviasilvertoes but that’s next! They are just tapping at the boundaries seeing what people will accept - people don’t like overt racism? Grand, they tell their overt racists to wind it in a bit. Stick to talking about illegals

MoodEnhancer · 02/07/2024 18:45

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 02/07/2024 17:08

People are talking about it because it’s worrying to see increasing popularity for a far-right, racist party. Especially in the context of the rise of the hard right in Europe.

It may be true that lots of reform voters aren’t racist fascists, but then that’s also worrying because it means that voters are being duped into voting for a party with politics they don’t properly understand.

Edited

Agree with this.

But also, those who vote for them for non racist reasons clearly don’t care about racism because they ought to at least be aware that a significant vote share will embolden racists.

@Ivyrosecrayon i think that’s wishful thinking! I’m yet to meet any real brexit voter who regrets their decision

Your rl circle is unrepresentative of the nation @Dontknowwhattodo2024. Even 90% of GB News viewers think it was a mistake.🙈
