General election 2024

So much talk about Reform, are people panicking?

All across the boards people appear to be scared of just how popular they are.
If it's not panic, then why the desperation to tell anyone voting for them, that they are all racists?
Reform voters BTW, just very interested that no other parry is having such animated discussions. If they weren't becoming so popular, nobody would be talking about it.

To be clear, I'm not worried about Reform winning anyhting, but I do think the fact that they're getting any traction or attention at all says some worrying things about our country.

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 17:20

@Ivyrosecrayon there is also the possibility of a Tory/reform coalition!

Very doubtful. Would cause massive problems within the tory party. And would lose them alot of members. The far right of the tory party, altho very loud, are in fact a minority..
I'm not a tory by any means but whilst I think many tory politicians are only out for themselves I do not think the majority are complete lunatics.. they care about money. Reform are a party made up of gimmicks and dog whistles.. would be very hard to actually govern a country with. You'd see tonnes of tory politicians defecting to Labour..
I mean it's just very very unlikely to happen tbh

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 17:27

@Parrotcoop id love to believe that’s the case for all of them but I’m not so sure!

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 17:29

@Ivyrosecrayon its unlikely yes but certainly a possibility! They did it with the Lib Dem’s. We shall see!

im not sure who to vote for, they all seem crap to be honest.

I don't know - it's quite unusual for a party to have 2 of their own MP candidates quit only 2 days before an election because of racism and misogyny

Yes, any of the other parties would just say fuck it and carry on regardless.

dotcombubble · 02/07/2024 17:32

Floatingandundecided · 02/07/2024 16:14

It's part of a wider global move to the right that is worrying. Look at what happened last time the right wing were voted into a major European country.

It's not a move to the right it's a return to the centre.

It's almost as if they hadn't noticed before they signed up.

Because they represent a sea change and they’re very popular. The establishment is very very scared.

If you want a stop to end less boat men and endless men in drag in women’s places no one else is offering it.

inb4 they’re “racist” - check out their candidates. Probably one from every other race there is.

Not worrying at all I m very pleased there’s a change in direction.

The ones who have paid any attention at all to the people and the policies, yes. Each voter will know which group he or she is in.

Mindless, and it doesn’t work anymore.

ClonedSquare · 02/07/2024 17:35

Yes, I am scared of how popular Reform are. I think it's a horrifying reminder of how many racists and bigots are out there in Britain today.

I'm not scared because they're going to win the election, because they're not. I'm not scared that they're telling some truth I can't handle, because they're not.

Shortfatsuit · 02/07/2024 17:36

Saying that Reform are racist is just stating the obvious. I think it's probably important for the majority of people who are not racist to call out racism when they see it, and obviously there is a lot of it about at the moment.

I'm not scared, though, because I have faith that vast majority of British people are better than the average Reform voter, and while they might win a handful of seats, I reckon most of them will just crawl back under their rocks again once the election is done.

In the meantime, they're doing a great job of splitting the right wing vote, and that is immensely helpful. I'm really hoping that they can help to take out a few high profile Tories who will lose their seats to Labour and the Libdems.

Farting · 02/07/2024 17:36

Youdontevengohere · 02/07/2024 16:55

A lot are, yes. And most racists are voting Reform, so they’re obviously doing something to attract that particular type of person 🤷🏻‍♀️.

You’re just making shit up. You have nothing to support what you’re saying.

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 16:59

I think all the people who voted Brexit will be voting reform. That’s quite a lot!

I hope that happens and if it does then Nigel will be in No. 10 on Friday.

Brexit was never delivered and despite the lefty leaning propaganda those of us that voted for it are furious. You’ll never understand if you’re a remoaner.

Farting · 02/07/2024 17:39

Youdontevengohere · 02/07/2024 17:05

Recent polls show that a significant number who voted for Brexit now regret it, so probably not.

No, that’s propaganda intended to change opinions. Everyone I know who voted leave are furious and we’re all voting Reform.

Parrotcoop · 02/07/2024 17:42

Hehe it's all scaremongering. Where have I heard that before....?

Farting · 02/07/2024 17:44

FanFckingTastic · 02/07/2024 17:22

Sweeping statements like 'all reform voters are racist' are really unhelpful. Reform has become more popular because some people feel - rightly or wrongly - that their concerns are not being listened too. Calling everyone who might vote for them a racist just entrenches their position.

Politics is not a Panto. There are no 'goodies' (normally Labour) and 'baddies' - in this case Reform. We need to start having grown up conversations rather than name calling.

Yes. They’re incorrect and they just look like desperate ad hominem attacks - and that’s because they are desperate ad hominem attacks.

it’s too late for grown up conversations, you’ve called us all the names under the sun, and we’re voting Reform, and there are a lot of us. Very quiet, we don’t shout like the left do, but were everywhere. Everywhere you don’t see a “vote labour” or a “vote Tory” sign is a Reform voter.

see you on Friday!

Underthinker · 02/07/2024 17:44

I'm not interested in voting reform as immigration isn't a big priority for me (decreasing or increasing). I suspect the genius tactic of calling reform voters thick racists is probably counterproductive for anyone who wants to limit their influence though.

RedToothBrush · 02/07/2024 17:44

I dislike the racism but tbh I'm more concerned about their actual policies and the party set up than the unpolitically correct views.

Can you demonstrate that these polls are corrupt? Otherwise, 'they are facts which is likely to change opinions' is accurate.

Im a reform voter, I have an IQ of 156, and I’m married to a Dr.

Insulting me won’t work.

Bazinga007 · 02/07/2024 17:46

If you are voting for Reform you might as well vote for the BNP.

Anyone who admires Trump, Putin and Tate can't be right in the head

So being against racism is being 'politically correct' - or just 'not being a cunt'?

If you can put aside their racism then you condone their racism.
