General election 2024

So much talk about Reform, are people panicking?

equisetum · 02/07/2024 15:43

All across the boards people appear to be scared of just how popular they are.
If it's not panic, then why the desperation to tell anyone voting for them, that they are all racists?
Reform voters BTW, just very interested that no other parry is having such animated discussions. If they weren't becoming so popular, nobody would be talking about it.

All Reform voters are racists?

The ones who have paid any attention at all to the people and the policies, yes. Each voter will know which group he or she is in.

All Reform voters are racists?

A lot are, yes. And most racists are voting Reform, so they’re obviously doing something to attract that particular type of person 🤷🏻‍♀️.

The only person who seems hysterical and angry on this thread is you, by the way OP.

I think all the people who voted Brexit will be voting reform. That’s quite a lot!

It is a lot but I’m not sure it will be the case

Floatingandundecided · 02/07/2024 17:05

It's quite telling that Nigel Farage is standing in Clacton. An area that holds the most poverty stricken area of the UK and has steadily got more and more right wing as the years have passed. People are right to be worried.

Recent polls show that a significant number who voted for Brexit now regret it, so probably not.

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 17:07

@Youdontevengohere yeah because UK voting polls are so reliably correct 😅 English are renowned for not being honest about who they vote or have voted for

No anger or hysteria here thanks. I've just re read all my posts, nope, no name calling or abuse anywhere?

People are talking about it because it’s worrying to see increasing popularity for a far-right, racist party. Especially in the context of the rise of the hard right in Europe.

It may be true that lots of reform voters aren’t racist fascists, but then that’s also worrying because it means that voters are being duped into voting for a party with politics they don’t properly understand.

You seem pretty irate. You don’t have to be name calling or abusing people to come across as angry and hysterical.

equisetum · 02/07/2024 17:14

Where is the anger though? Quote me please

Are you talking about the undercover actor?
Seems to be so much anger, and name calling. Racists, misogynists, repulsive. Wow!
It seems you believe everything you read!

I wonder how many "traditional" Labour votes will go to Reform. I've only read or heard remarks about the Tory vote being split, but I would have thought that many areas impacted most by immigration are Labour usually?

Youdontevengohere · 02/07/2024 17:16

EasternStandard · 02/07/2024 17:14

Well we all have different perceptions and opinions, I guess.

Ivyrosecrayon · 02/07/2024 17:19

I'm not in the slightest bit worried about reform... just glad they'll split the tory vote a bit and let another party in.
Let's be honest, anyone voting reform wasn't going to vote left or even centre were they anyway?
So no I'm not worried.
I think they are a bunch of idiots but I suppose they would say that about me.

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 17:20

@Ivyrosecrayon there is also the possibility of a Tory/reform coalition!

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 17:22

@Ivyrosecrayon also a huge amount of Labour voters were Brexit voters don’t forget so not so sure about that

FanFckingTastic · 02/07/2024 17:22

equisetum · 02/07/2024 16:50

All Reform voters are racists?

Sweeping statements like 'all reform voters are racist' are really unhelpful. Reform has become more popular because some people feel - rightly or wrongly - that their concerns are not being listened too. Calling everyone who might vote for them a racist just entrenches their position.

Politics is not a Panto. There are no 'goodies' (normally Labour) and 'baddies' - in this case Reform. We need to start having grown up conversations rather than name calling.

They really won't. I think a lot of people who voted brexit have become quite disillusioned... either because they regret it or because they didn't see what they wanted to see from it.. many of them won't bother voting in the general election at all now. May will be tories but moderate tories... I'd say only a minority would vote reform.
I also know many staunch Labour voters who voted for brexit... who intend to vote Labour
A very mixed bag. As people who voted for brexit did so for many different reasons.

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 17:24

@Ivyrosecrayon i think that’s wishful thinking! I’m yet to meet any real brexit voter who regrets their decision

Parrotcoop · 02/07/2024 17:24

I don't know, there are several threads telling us how awful it will be when Labour get in to.

What is missing is any attempt to tell us what's good about the Conservatives 😆

With Reform, I think most decent people are shocked at the rise of the far right in Europe and you can pretend all you like, but that's what this is.

Parrotcoop · 02/07/2024 17:25

I have. I'd say almost everyone I know who admits they voted leave, regrets it and accepts they were conned.
