Everyone at work voting Reform

People can vote for whichever party they want to vote for, but I feel pretty disheartened at the amount of Reform voters I work with. They think it's funny, and that Farage has all the answers for them. They don't try to hide their racism, and even seem proud of it. I know they are trying to wind me up, but I just try to keep quiet in the corner as I know they all see me as a woke leftie. Having been excited to see the back of the Tories for at least a good few years, I'm just feeling deflated at the views of people I spend most of my time with. They're even talking about Kylian Mbappe's stance on the French elections now, with the usual "stick to the football" comment. Not sure what I want from this thread, just expressing my worries.

A super majority does make sense in the context that there's no practical opposition in Parliament. It is not good for democracy.

You may well think it's been appropriated but surely everyone can see that opposition parties with less than 100 seats have their powers severely curtailed.

No it doesn't. A majority of 30 or a majority of 100 doesn't make the slightest difference in our political system.

It doesn't matter how big the majority is. Legislation passes with a majority of 1.

TeenagersAngst · 01/07/2024 17:45

That's how legislation is passed. That's not how opposition works. In reality. Not just in theory.

Startingagainandagain · 01/07/2024 17:49

They can vote who whoever they like but having racist and xenophobic discussions at work is not acceptable. Does that impact on how they treat non-white staff, clients and suppliers?

If management condones this then if I was in your situation I would find another job.

'@Quimjelly OP, if you cant beat them, join them. You're the odd one out.'

I think you will find that many people, the OP included, have no interest in being racist and xenophobic ...

Don’t remember the tories worrying about the effect of their supermajority when Boris was running for PM ?

Right wing scaremongering?

HelpMeGetThrough · 01/07/2024 17:55

Chances are, they are yanking your chain, knowing full well it's winding you up.

I work in construction and nobody is voting Reform, Lib Dems or Labour. It’s hot topic on site and in the office. I’m in a poor part of the UK

In fact, it looks like everyone must be a secret Tory supporter. But won’t admit it.

Which makes me ponder how accurate the Polls are if Tory voters aren’t admitting to voting Tory?

(full disclosure: I am on the fence and haven’t decided between Tory and Labour yet!)

Quite. White van man type tradesmen aren’t really Labour supporters. They have a weird view about anyone educated (liberal lefty do gooders) and hate benefit claimants (scroungers) Half of them don’t declare their real earnings and are living the high life. Get their political facts from Tik Tok or formerly the Sun. Sad really but hey ho.
Oh and I live in the North too. Have plenty of rels like this, luckily most of them cannot be arsed to vote.

wastingtimeonhere · 01/07/2024 17:59

Yep...I've had it all day too..colleagues, customers..claiming Farage as the next messiah..depressing..then I got home..out of 10 houses, 2 labour signs in windows..and 3 reform...going to make neighbourly relations interesting..😂

dontflakeout · 01/07/2024 17:59

If everyone in your workplace is openly expressing racism, you need to report it to HR.

wastingtimeonhere · 01/07/2024 18:04

One customer in response to what would reform do to stop 'the boats' then, 'hopefully, stick the Royal Navy in the' Channel and blow the boats out the water' was the reply...I despair!
Honestly, labour, when they get in, have their work cut out... there are a lot talking this way....far too many for comfort

Anon9898 · 01/07/2024 18:05

Just because people are voting reform doesn't make them racist. It means they believe in their policies. I don't think it's appropriate to distance yourself from someone just because you disagree with them.

What would happen if you voted one way and your partner voted another would you do the same to him just because you didn't like it .

I am not voting labour as I don't believe he is fit to do the job. I'm not voting conservatives as we need a change and then whos left.

LakeTiticaca · 01/07/2024 18:16

Unless you work in an MPs office, politics should be kept out of the workplace.
I hate these people who think their opinions are superior to everyone else's and its usually the shrieking lefties

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/07/2024 14:15

It must be your work place. I’d be pretty depressed in that environment.

I used to be a teacher. Everyone voted Labour. Real sense of unity during elections.

I bet not everyone. It just that people who didn’t vote Labour felt like OP.

Can’t you see your own hypocrisy?

SpindleyDindley · 01/07/2024 19:19

It is not worth getting involved. I have voted for various parties over the years and at any point if the topic of politics crops up I simply say that I am undecided.

Part of being a grown up is the ability to tolerate a view that is opposite to your own without having a breakdown

It shocks me how few actual grown ups there appear to be out there!

This is true.

But when we believe those views by their very nature lead to an environment in which others will be harmed, we have a duty to speak out.

Farage is a proto-fascist and he's not really bothering to hide it anymore.

Anewone5 · 01/07/2024 14:50

Maybe they feel the same way about you when you announce who you're voting for.

I feel the same when people gleefully announce they're voting for Labour.

People who vote for Reform are effectively voting for Labour - they’ll split the Tory vote so hand Labour the seat.

I’m intrigued

Labour are going to win anyway. Voting Reform is for the long term end goal.

Please explain the fascism in Reform’s policies. I’m genuinely interested, because afaik fascism means a fusion of big capital and government, total state control and significant interference in everyday affairs of the citizens.

Farage can be many things but I haven’t heard him advocating for any of the above. He sounds like a small c conservative to me.

JennieLec · 01/07/2024 14:31

They are all wasting their votes! To keep Labour from a supermajority, they need to vote Tory.

You're right-the thing is, Reform are highlighting a huge problem - which you have just outlined. Why should we be pushed into voting Tory? I'm old enough to have lived through both Governments and there's not a lot between them now. We need change in the whole system - I work in an ABC1 demographic area whereby most people would have voted Conservative - but they are so pissed off with the lying and inability for politicians to relate to and listen to ordinary people, many are voting Reform as a protest vote, knowing Labour are going to get in anyway so it's no loss really.

MotherofChaosandDestruction · 01/07/2024 20:12

hamstersarse · 01/07/2024 14:56

What is it exactly that offends you so much about Reform?

Which of their policies makes you angry?

Their racist candidates and their leader endorsing Andrew Tate for a start.

SportGirl · 01/07/2024 20:19

I'm voting reform and I voted out for brexit
