General election 2024

Middle class biological women prepare to be relegated to being second class citizens by the end of the week

Mycatsmudge · 01/07/2024 09:38

The Labour Party is expected to win a huge majority in the GE on Thursday. My fears are their stance on trans rights which are being prioritised over those of biological women and this will risk our safety, opportunities and dignity. I also work in the NHS and read what is happening to the nurses in Darlington with horror.

My other concern is they have not been transparent on their plans on how to raise money for their spending pledges other than say they will invest and reap the benefit of green technology. This is not going to happen in the foreseeable future. I can only conclude we will be taxed even more but stealthy.

Then I read this in their manifesto:
‘Expansion of the Equality Act 2010Labour will implement the socioeconomic protected characteristic of the Equality Act, also the socioeconomic duty under Section 1 of the Equality Act and ensure equality impact assessments of government policy are conducted.5 Jun 2024’
To me this means richer areas will get less money from government for public services than poorer areas. I live in an area which is very boringly middle class but our public services are already cut to the bone(bin collections fortnightly, potholes left for months, all adult evening classes gone) but we still pay a hefty amount of council tax.

So under a Labour government I as a biological woman, working in the NHS on the frontline and will be expected to share our women’s changing rooms with any man with a GRC. I will probably be taxed more as a higher rate taxpayer because the tax bands have stayed static for years and I will expect less public services because I live in the suburbs but my council taxes will most likely increase just to sustain what we already have

Shouldn't we be having these conversations? Do you actually expect people not to say anything at all? This is the General Election board.

The conservatives - like the whole of the western world was sucked into the trans cult for a while - they absolutely were - and made changes accordinly, but at least they woke up!! They realised it was activism, they have since been very pro women and have been bringing in single sex legislation.

ALL of the other parties, Labour, Lib Dems and Greens are still drinking the trans cool aid, and they have no intention of stopping. Labour particularly have been under so much pressure, they would have understood by now if they were going to.

What legislation have they brought in?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/07/2024 12:29

They've changed policy. Look at prisons.

No one ever answers that question.

Because they know the answer, and the truth is hard to admit.

It's very obvious in some cases. I saw Kemi Badenoch described as a 'cognitive Goliath' on one thread. Another thread was titled 'Labour are going to anhiliate women's rights'.

Well Goliath has had quite a lot of time to deal with this self proclaimed issue.

No action, lots of deterministic whiffle. Some people will accept any old cobblers provided it sounds sympathetic. She’s actually had power to deal with this and done nada.

Yes I think we would all like to know this as it would save a lot of angst to know it was already resolved.

Or is it that people have been bought off by a few fine words on intentions?

Woke up? My arse.🙄

Despite the fact that women were assaulted by the men the Tories put into women's prisons, the party refused to stop putting doing it outright. Plus we all know Sunak's out on his hole the day after the GE and there a big risk he'll be replaced by one of the many Tory TRAs.

They're just using women's rights as a political football. If you really think they give a shit about us, I've some very special beans to sell you.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/07/2024 12:29

They refused to ban men from the women's estate.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/07/2024 12:34

Thanks to the lobbying work of Keep Prisons Single Sex the government changed prison policy in England and Wales to disallow men who had not had gender reassignment surgery or who had been convicted of violence against women or sex crimes from being placed in a women's prison, without it going through ministers. Women in prison are some of the most vulnerable women in the country.

AutumnCrow · 01/07/2024 12:34

I don't think Labour are planning to erase biological women, though. We shall see.

No-one has literally suggested this.

I wrote that I am concerned about the erasure of the female sex class. Big difference. The two sex classes as categories of political class analysis are a central tenet of the co-operative socialism that Labour MPs like Rayner and Cooper supposedly espouse.

If you take Category A, and add an unquantified amount of Category B, it is no longer Category A. It is a compound category A+B, and it has different, often unpredictable, properties.

Isn’t the Tory party the one who admitted to the Covid Inquiry that women were excluded from the decision making process and were therefore disproportionately affected by lockdown policies? You know like locking them down with abusers and putting the home school burden predominately on them?

And haven’t they overseen 14 years of sexist and misogynistic behaviour in the police and fire services? That has actually led to the deaths of women?

I am as annoyed by the erosion of women’s spaces as the next women but this has happened under the Tories. They’ve watched over and supported the whole Stonewall agenda. Just because they’ve realised it has some political traction now, don’t expect me to believe for a minute they care.

Do I want to see a man’s willie in a changing room? Absolutely not. Do I fear the
Police force and the criminal justice failures around DV and rape far more - yes. Do I think the likes of Yvette Cooper, Jess Phillips, Rachel Reeves, Angela Rayner are far more likely to engage with the wider agenda than Rishi and his Tory boys ~ does that even need answering?

And JKR, Sharron Davies etc are not going away ~ the Cass Report means pushback is real.

We are where we are now thanks to the Tories.

Perfectly summed up.

Single mum and carer here. Not middle class. Tories have done fuck all for me as a woman.

Anyone would think we're being sold a load of nonsense to vote them back in. They've done nothing regarding this and women's lives are exponentially worse under the Tories. Women's life spans have gone down FFS.

Pampledample · 01/07/2024 12:39

What changes should I expect to notice first? How will it impact me after, say, two years?

How regularly should I expect to be impacted?

How does being middle class have any bearing?

But has middle class women's life expectancy declined?

KateDelRick · 01/07/2024 12:40

Some desperate attempts in the last week to stop people on here from voting Labour.
Honestly, you'd think some people were working in Conservative Central Office 😕

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/07/2024 12:41

Again, I'm not a Tory, but people are misrepresenting what policy changes were made by the government.

This is how Kate Coleman, the Director of the now disbanded KPSS described the prison policy change on another thread:

The crunch moment came in August 2022, when Dominic Raab announced that the policy would change:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11088219/Trans-prisoners-barred-womens-jails-strict-new-policy-proposed-Dominic-Raab.html

The new policy that came into force in early 2023 placed restrictions on the allocation criteria that permit men to be held in the female estate. Whilst by no means perfect, fewer men than ever before are now in women’s prisons and crucially having a GRC no longer makes a difference. We have always argued for GRC-blind policies and were delighted that this new one conformed to that standard. The importance of this policy internationally cannot be understated: it set a global precedent for minimum standards for women’s safety with a starting position that considered the risk to women in prison, not the wishes of male prisoners. Again, thanks to the MoJ for engaging in good faith: the contrast with SPS could not be more stark.

Another key success came earlier this year. Since 2023, we have been supporting 3 prisoners who have been sanctioned in different ways for “transphobic speech”. That support has taken different forms & for 1 prisoner involved obtaining senior KC’s opinion. May 2024 saw the release of the new Adjudications Policy Framework which specifies that no prisoner can be compelled to use “preferred” pronouns and which sets a high bar for language or behaviour to be a matter for disciplinary action. We are confident that none of the 3 prisoners we have supported would face sanction under this new policy.

This well-intended legislation will have gender self-id quietly tacked onto it, mark my words. Watch the slippery fuckers like a hawk.

AutumnCrow · 01/07/2024 12:41

cupcaske123 · 01/07/2024 11:56

No one ever answers that question.

I've answered it dozens of times on threads like these.

The Tories are a horror show. That's the short version.

The longer version involves listing Tory MPs who very nearly led us into gender identity hellfire: Crispin Blunt, Penny Mordaunt, Maria Miller, Nicky Morgan, Amber Rudd, Theresa May, Caroline Nokes. And so many others were asleep at the wheel. It took Boris Johnson and Liz Truss of all people to put a halt to it.

I will never, ever vote Tory. Never have, never will.

But nor do I wish to vote for Labour - they are a massive disappointment on safeguarding and understanding sex class protections. I don't owe them my vote.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/07/2024 12:43

I feel exactly the same @AutumnCrow

Under the Tories women have been murdered due to cuts to probation services and policing, women and children have been forced into poverty and made dependent on food banks.

As much as I think genderwang is bollocks I think women will be fine seeing a trans woman in the bathroom occasionally

It doesn't matter whether they are fine with it or not because they won't have any choice in the matter.

Left wing patriarchy is just like right wing patriarchy.

PlumCrumb · 01/07/2024 12:45

If you live in Edinburgh, you can vote for one of the five candidates standing for 'Edinburgh People'. This is their policy on women's rights:

Women’s Rights Policy
We call for Women’s safe spaces to be kept safe, including women’s toilets and changing rooms. The definition of a woman must not be changed to include men who have transitioned to becoming woman-like. Men who have transitioned to become woman-like should not be allowed to compete in women’s sport.

EDINBURGH NORTH & LEITH: VOTE Caroline Waterloo
EDINBURGH EAST & MUSSELBURGH: VOTE Jane Gould
EDINBURGH SOUGH: VOTE Mark Rowbotham
EDINBURGH SOUTH WEST: VOTE Marc Wilkinson
EDINBURGH WEST: VOTE Nick Hornig

It will just be the names on the ballot paper (rather than also the party name) so if you do want to vote for them then you need to remember the name of your candidate.

What we need is a strong government and a strong opposition party. At the moment we have neither. I remember the euphoria in 97 when Blair got in. Things can only get better, and they did.......until they didn't.
The tories have done nothing to endear themselves to the UK electorate but I just cannot bring myself to vote in a party who calls women dinosaurs hoarding rights and allowing female MPs to be threatened with death for stating that women don't have a penis.
I just can't

This.

They did this:
https://amp.theguardian.com/society/2017/oct/18/theresa-may-plans-to-let-people-change-gender-without-medical-checks

Then they wrote genderwoo into loads of guidance and laws.
Reported women o the police for retweeting JKR.
Repeatedly put TWAW zealots at the head of Education.
Appointed the world's first Trans MP to Women and Equalities Commision.
Took money from the head of Stonewall.
Payed Stonewall a fortune to push a TRA agenda training to our public bodies.
Tried to lie and gaslight us with bollocks like at least the Tories know what a woman is.
Put male sex offenders into prison to sexually assault the women there.
Refused to fix any of it.
Refused to say that only women have a cervix.

I'm sure they did other stuff too. Make no mistake, the Tories have wrecked things for women in the UK. Their trans shitshow was just one part of that.🤷‍♀️

The Tories hate women. I can't wait to see the back of them.

Great reminder! Let’s also add policies like starving social care of funding so (mainly) women have had to take on increased caring responsibilities, benefit caps/cuts which again impact women far more, and cuts to the judiciary system so that most sex crimes are not even prosecuted. But the Tories can wheel out a good slogan - riiight. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
