Unless absolutely SHEDLOADS of people who voted Conservative in 2019 vote Labour this time.

That's right, isn't it?

If I remember correctly, Tom Baldwin stated in his book that Starmer's wife 'is no more religious than he is' - which version is the truth?

FFS Clav. That is really low.

It is. I’m actually speechless.

Notonthestairs · 02/07/2024 13:04

I don't care how he spends his time with his family.

If it's alright for Sunak to micromanage making the beds and rechecking the dishwasher it's alright for the Starmers to spend a bit of time together.

Besides which the two immovable appointments in May's diary was the Saturday morning gym and Sunday church service. Credit to her.

Judaism is like any religion. Diverse in its manifestation of observance. Many secular Jews observe Shabbat. It's a hugely important tenet if their cultural identity. But hey, anything to smear Starmer, right?

Desperate Tories go for the low blow, I'm not surprised.

He also boasted about how he'd ignore multiple parking tickets (until they dissolved in the rain) at Oxford because his car was registered abroad and so he couldn't be pursued by the authorities.

Harriet Harman of course has a string of driving convictions, including a ban for driving at 99mph and reversing into a parked car using her mobile phone - ironic that she was elected chair of the MPs' standards committee.

I have just checked. Baldwin's biography is not an authorised biography. So I don't know why you think his view is the authorative one.

Ah now. This is what it comes down to. Johnson too frit to stand in a by-election.

It's hardly relevant to the election, given that she is not a candidate.

Nobody blinked an eye when Theresa May wanted time off on Sunday for going to church

Labour can't win

Some of them are.

Didn't Boris Johnson miss all those early 2020 COBR covid meetings because he was off writing a book when he should've been being Prime Minister?

I have to say I'm a bit confused - are Starmer's wife and children Jewish or not?

I’m told by one of her friends that Victoria is very funny but refuses to be “a show pony” so won’t give interviews or pose for a shoot. She grew up in north London, the daughter of Bernard, an Ashkenazi Jew, and Barbara, who converted to Judaism. When I suggest that makes Victoria Jewish, and his children, too, Starmer demurs. “No, no, they’re not Jewish for reasons I won’t bore you with. Bernard’s dad’s family didn’t accept that.

And having parties at Chequers

Raab 'the beach was closed' was on holiday during the fall of Kabul. Think Johnson was holidaying then as well

BIossomtoes · 02/07/2024 13:24

Clav, read the room and stop. You’ve gone too far.

I was replying to a post regarding Boris Johnson's parking tickets - which seat is Johnson contesting?

Wasn't that investigated? Nothing came of it.

Selective quoting from you there, Clav. The rest of that part of the article makes ot clear that it his children he is referring to as not being Jewish, not his wife. It says:

The family occasionally attend a liberal synagogue. “Pretty much every week” there’s a challah and they say kiddush with Bernard, or sometimes with Victoria’s sister on Zoom. Their Jewish heritage is important, he says. “And we’re very keen for the children to know about it, to understand it. Half of the family are Jewish, they’re either here or in Israel.” No one was directly affected by 7 October. “Thank God,” he says. But they’ve been affected by the war. “No doubt about that.”

RishisLeavingDo · 02/07/2024 13:29

Tory peer Danny Finkelstein, on the How To Win An Election podcast, on his party's response to the Starmer 6pm finish stuff.

“I think it's lamentable to attack him over that. I really honestly do."
