Unless absolutely SHEDLOADS of people who voted Conservative in 2019 vote Labour this time.

That's right, isn't it?

I posted mainly because I thought the connection to Keir Starmer was interesting.

Do you think a transgender woman convicted of manslaughter and attempted rape of a woman should be sent to a female prison? I don't.

You are not answering my question.

And no, transgender women should not be in female prison but that has nothing to do with the right to legal representation.

You love someone with a history of sleeping around, habitual lying, career failure and a criminal record?

Well, each to their own ...

Even the man who ended Johnson's premiership had something nice to say about him;

Sir Simon, who is now the master of Christ's College, Cambridge, said Mr Johnson, on a personal level, was "always charming to deal with, he was humorous, he was kind, he was the foreign secretary I worked with who had the most time for the people in his office".

I thought your question was an unnecessary diversion. Yes, they should have access to a lawyer but sometimes the law is an ass as they say.

a criminal record

Johnson doesn't have a criminal record - he received a £50 fixed penalty notice.

There's no debate about the fact that he committed unlawful acts while PM though, and he did so more than once. I think it's fair to say that he displayed zero respect for the law and the constitution.

Personally, I set my bar higher than "doesn't technical have a criminal record".

Criticising a barrister for acting for the defence is disgusting behaviour. Everyone has the right to a fair trial.
@Clavinova you are bonkers to bring up Starmer’s ex-girlfriend’s case from 2009.
He’s been married since 2007.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 02/07/2024 07:31

I think it's called grasping at straws. There is no sensible way to defend the conservative's record over the last 14 years, so this is what people come up with.

Zonder · 02/07/2024 07:35

Desperate times call for desperate measures if you're someone who has to back Tory.

Devonbabs · 02/07/2024 07:47

I emailed some questions to every single one of the individuals standing in our constituency. Out of the 8 or so emails only two candidates replied. The Heritage Party and Reform. I value an MP who will actually engage with his or her constituents- therefore Reform will get my vote.

He also boasted about how he'd ignore multiple parking tickets (until they dissolved in the rain) at Oxford because his car was registered abroad and so he couldn't be pursued by the authorities.

I hope you are not in Bristol Central. If you are I suggest you watch the attached from about 1:49. The Reform candidate is absolutely barking. I wonder how many of them are like this?

And now there are all sorts of lies coming out of the Tory campaign because Starmer said he likes to spend Friday evenings with his family.

Getting angry is more the issue though, he’s about to lead and questions on single sex spaces provoke anger over listening

Edited

We had a pandemic whereby shops and public spaces were shut during lock-down. In China it was believed Coronavirus spread through inhalation of this waste air. The government should have supported single use toilet spaces and active ventilation systems as part of a rehabilitation package. This is still needed and could potentially diffuse this situation. Whether you are ideologically aligned or not. It's tempting to damn a party over one issue, however big or small that may seem to you. Given the electoral system in this country people have no choice but to align themselves with a centrist party as it stands. Those angry and reactionary have to be careful not to fall for populist parties like Reform. Farage is a snake oil salesman. As for Labour being a load of lefties in their current incarnation that's equally laughable. It was suggested to hold your nose and vote for the least worst option. I still can't believe how badly the Tories have managed to bungle everything given their majority under Johnson - they have been dreadful. Admittedly they could have been worse!

The Femicide Census is out.

A bit later than usual because it takes 2-3 years for some cases to come to court.

One case from 2021 still hasn't.

Didn’t the Tories used to say they were the party of family values?

I guess that’s Labour now.

I’ve just pointed out the antisemitism of that on another thread and will do so every time I see it. What a low blow.

I think there are elements within the GC crowd that are deeply conservative, not what you'd recognise or describe as feminism (radical or otherwise). I know people try to deny it, but when you look at who the GC crowd are aligned with in places like the US, the signs are there.

I am GC, but that isn't the only aspect of feminism I care about, and I refuse to align myself with those who obviously don't have women's interests at heart.

I appreciate posts like this, i've spoken a lot on here about some within the GC crowd not taking accountability or having awareness of their 'movement'. I have GC views for the most part, but i cannot align myself with it when people within that movement don't feel i am extreme enough. Sex matters, agreed. But bloody hell, don't sell our rights away to get one over on Trans people.

He’s been married since 2007.

Defence?

A convicted killer applied to be transferred to a woman's prison.

Phillippa Kaufmann (instructed by Scott-Moncrieff, Harbour and Sinclair) for the claimant.

Starmer's ex-girlfriend donated to his leadership campaign in 2020 according to Tom Baldwin's biography. Also, the case shows that a transgender woman was transferred to a woman's prison under a Labour government.

If I remember correctly, Tom Baldwin stated in his book that Starmer's wife 'is no more religious than he is' - which version is the truth?

I choose to believe the man who says his family observes Shabbat on a Friday evening.
