I'm no fan of this man but this is just not cricket!!

A many appears to throwing rock like stuff from a bin at Farage

Thankfully the rocks missed him and I hope everyone else is safe on that bus

IMO, Farage should now get police protection

I'm happy for Farage to be milkshaked as it's merely annoying and embarrassing, which he deserves. Disappointed people have chosen to chuck potentially harmful stuff - it gives fuel to 'see they're just as bad as the others' viewpoints and also puts other politicians at risk as Far Right thugs might decide, well, they have an excuse the physically attack politicians to their Left, as the other side 'started it'

No, it’s assault. Would you be ok with milkshake being thrown over you by somebody who finds you offensive or irritating?

CheerfulBunny · 11/06/2024 18:47

Hmm. My first thought was that he was engineering this. He'll do anything for the oxygen of publicity. You can't deny that it's not working. I am terribly cynical where Mr Farage is concerned. I don't think he's a very nice man.

AmusedMaker · 11/06/2024 18:48

I think it’s absolutely terrible to throw things at someone just because you don’t like them. Someone could have been seriously hurt in todays attack.

As usual, gibberish. OP is deluded, badly informed and writes drivel in ever post.

I'm 46 and very childish and think people are welcome to milkshake any politician they like, but not to hurt them.

And you would be fine with someone 'milkshaking' you or your child or your elderly parent too? For disagreeing with your/their views?

It's assault and it's not the kind of world I want to live in.

Exactly. It's not difficult not to throw a milkshake over someone is it.

BetsyBobbin · 11/06/2024 19:17

@Realduchymarmalade I hope this is sarcasm but if not, had you read further up the thread, I had already provided evidence of that

Acrossthemountains · 11/06/2024 19:18

Can't find many fucks to give about farage getting stuff thrown at him.

Throwing rocks at anyone, and in this case to suppress Farage’s right to campaign in a free democracy, is abhorrent. The posts on this thread minimising it are shameful. The far left cannot handle dissent and resort to violence, we know that from history. The far right is just as bad.

Of course, throwing rocks at Farage will also increase support for Farage as the underdog portrayal helps him.

I doubt it would increase support as the rocks missed,
I guess if they had hit NF between the eyes, then yes as hsotically, politicians that get injured during election campaigns give an increase via sympahaty votes

I'm glad NF, nor anyone else was injured

FYI - I'm Asian and we/, my parents came to England in the early 60's. I find NF distasteful and getting worse but I am against violence

The police were present, you can see them react and detain the suspect in the BBC footage. You wouldn't expect to see police on the campaign bus, so what additional police protection do you propose?

Farage usually has his own private security, who are ridiculously ineffectual. Their awareness and lack of reaction to the Clacton milkshake is laughable - one of the reasons that the idea it was a stitch-up was so believable is because they fail to spot something so obvious it looks like it's staged.

I agree.

Anniegetyourgun · 11/06/2024 19:37

Nobody should get anything thrown at them, whatever they're doing (possible exception if done to interrupt them from something dangerous, like attacking someone else). Throwing things at people is not on, full stop. Even horrible frog people. Hold up a rude banner by all means. Shout counter-slogans. Demonstrate. But no rough stuff. It's supposed to be the bad guys that do that.

But I haven't seen any real news about this yet so I'll leave it as a general comment, absent reliable details. I can't access x.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 11/06/2024 14:07

If he wasn't such a cunt, people wouldn't throw things at him 🤷🏻‍♀️

My thoughts exactly

bombastix · 11/06/2024 19:52

It was apparently an empty coffee cup and some wet cement. Not a stone as has been claimed.

I hope that you remember this if it happens to you just because someone else thinks that you are a cunt.

‘Man who spends his life dog whistling gets attacked by dogs’ shocker.

No, it’s not acceptable that the lives of politicians are put at risk by what comes out of their mouths or the mouths of others. Speech is free, but the consequences of free speech must be carefully considered before those words are uttered. Farage knows his supporters and his detractors. He always knew what he was getting himself into. This sort of behaviour plays right into his hands and his attacker deserves to have the book thrown at him, but not for the reasons he thinks.

Please think before you post utter nonsense with respect!!!

When someone has liquid thrown over them, they fear it may be acid or other chemical equally as devasting.

How would you feel if you were walking towards the school gates and someone disliked you for what you was saying about ???? and did a 180 right between the evens with a litre of milkshae??? Not nice, is it

I hope you now feel educated as to way it is unacceptable behaviour in England and most of the world to throw drinks at people

NF spousts some terrible crap that does IMO make the right-wing minded more angry

However, if anyone, any politician breaks the law re inciting hatred et - it is up to the police to deal with it and not someone throwing stuff or worse to a politician

My parents, we arrived in England in the early 60's from Asia - foolishly I used to find funny and not too bad but recent couple of years and recent weeks, IMO he has been very distastful

More publicity for Mr Farage whereafter he gets to frame himself as the champion of the people against the lawless, woke rabble. Well done, thrower! <slow handclap>

Generally, threats against MPs are wrong of course but wasn't the rumour that the lass who threw the milkshake last week was the girlfriend of a Farage team member? ('all publicity is good')

More upset over a man covered in milkshake then female MPs who have to put up with rape threats & stalking.

I'm remembering that terrifying incident where Keir Starmer was surrounded by a baying mob in London and had to be rushed into the safety of a car by police.

The week prior to the incident Boris Johnson had told lies about Starmer stirring up bad feeling and hatred.

MPs from across both parties condemned the behaviour and blamed Johnson.

@medianewbie

"Generally, threats against MPs are wrong of course but wasn't the rumour that the lass who threw the milkshake last week was the girlfriend of a Farage team member? ('all publicity is good')"

There were indeed a number of posters on MN trying to spread the false rumour (for their own purposes) that the young woman who threw the milkshake was part of the Farage team.

The woman who has been charged was Victoria Thomas Bowen who had nothing and never has to do with Farage or Reform or UKIP.

www.bbc.com/news/articles/cw0097xlqxvo.amp

The conspiracy theory was that it was Emily Hewertson who had supported the Brexit campaign :

x.com/emilyhewertson/status/1798065746645524521?s=46&t=roDeJ8lNY1suZljI8XTTQg

As much as I dislike Farage, this was a pretty pathetic smear attempt to falsely claim it was staged and disappointing to see so many posters spreading false information.

Desdemona44 · 11/06/2024 13:54

Morally I know that it's wrong, but at the same time I can't summon up even the slightest sliver of sympathy for farage.

The right wing like personal responsibility, so maybe he should take responsibility not to be such an objectionable cunt that people want to chuck projectiles at him...

Beautifully put.

1dayatatime · 11/06/2024 21:15

@Acrossthemountains

"Can't find many fucks to give about farage getting stuff thrown at him."

It's scary that there are people that dismiss physical assault so long as it's against people whose political views they disagree with.
