I'm no fan of this man but this is just not cricket!!

A many appears to throwing rock like stuff from a bin at Farage

Thankfully the rocks missed him and I hope everyone else is safe on that bus

IMO, Farage should now get police protection

It just gives him more media attention and makes him the victim so is a stupid tactic for that but also violence is not something to support against politicians.

Begsthequestion · 11/06/2024 15:31

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 11/06/2024 15:26

So you agree with capital punishment?

How did you make that leap of logic?

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 11/06/2024 15:31

If I were managing the Reform campaign, in which I was attempting to mobilise apathetic voters who feel unrepresented and held in contempt by the political class, to make the effort to vote for my party, then these kinds of incidents in which Farage is attacked for being dislikeable and dangerous, would be gold dust moments.

Not only does it generate a lot of publicity in and of itself but the celebratory comments from those who otherwise would be horrified by these violent acts in the political landscape, feeds the feeling of being persecuted and makes Farage look like the scrappy underdog.

And while that might give you a kick of moral righteousness, I personally think that it's playing with fire.

How did you make that leap of logic?

Because the poster said ‘you reap what you sow’. So if you murder somebody, it’s logical for you to be murdered in return via capital punishment? A belief in violent payback?

“Less complaining please from the ‘sponging gender’.” He added that women are “subsidised by men to merely breath (sic)”.
He reportedly wrote in December 2022: “Men pay 80% of tax. Women take out 80% of expenditures.
“Square that inequality first by depriving women of healthcare until their life expectancies are the same as men, Fair’s fair.”

Where do they get these wackos?

I mean if this is the stuff they say out loud in public...

That's not what that phrase means in this context, because no one murdered Farage.

Think about it a bit more perhaps.

LastTrainEast · 11/06/2024 15:35

BetsyBobbin "people forget that only 80 years ago there was a world war caused by Farage's idol, the very nice Mr Hitler."

I remember that Hitler's government encouraged rock throwing and worse because he hated Jews and just being Jewish meant they 'asked for it'.

Pity you were born too late to get to know him.

Are you comparing farage to persecuted Jewish people?

Ok - an assault for an assault. Shall we flog people as punishment? Meter out justice in an ‘eye for an eye’ fashion?

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 11/06/2024 15:40

The fact is many left wingers are equally as bad, unintelligent, illogical and self interested as those on the far right. They agree with a principle WITHOUT EXCEPTION… until it doesn’t suit them. Then it’s ’different’, apparently. They’re cut from the same unedifying cloth.

That's exactly why people shouldn't throw things at him.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a set up nor if Rishi was deliberately gaffing to throw votes over to Reform.

Both things play completely into Farage's hands.

People really should have learned from brexit how cunning he is.

Use only logic and reason to defeat arguments, not emotion and violence.

HRTQueen · 11/06/2024 15:27

why does it need to be loud

he loves nothing more than media attention and his interactions with those that disagree with him

Farage is so angry about everything that even if someone agrees with him he seems to be angry and start a row.

I remember him on one of those Sunday paper articles where you sit down with someone over a meal and have a nice chat. He met Rachel Johnson who, in the tone of the article, was pleasant, engaging, polite and light. My God did Farage rant on....banging on with his skewed world view, repeating himself, imposing his 'right way' and patronising her.

He's a rude man who gets away with his vile views and bad manners because of the politeness and decency of others. He's thick skinned, dyed in the wool agitator who has no empathy for others.

He admits he likes to cause trouble for trouble's sake - something he's been doing since his 'nazi youth movement' song singing school days.

I can't condone the throwing of a paper cup at him, but hell's bells, how do you get through to an appalling sexist, racist trouble maker by talking to them? You don't, do you?

If you just listen in silence you're condoning. If you contradict you're bullied down by his well practiced methods. What method is there?

Vote for someone else and keep voting for someone else is my preferred option.

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2024 15:47

He is absolutely vile, I bumped into him in a hotel once and almost wished I had a milkshake to hand
However, I think its wrong to protest with violence like this and hope the people who did it are punished

FlakyShaker · 11/06/2024 15:50

ARichtGoodDram · 11/06/2024 15:01

All that violence does is make the reporting all about that and take away space that could be filled by reporting on his (and his company members) comments showing their clear racist views over the years.

Turning him into the victim will be a win for him and playing right into his hands

Quite

We've had an onlyfans model, wonder who this will turn out to be.

It's this going to be a running theme of this election I wonder?

People are their own worst enemies.

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 11/06/2024 15:53

If you just listen in silence you're condoning. If you contradict you're bullied down by his well practiced methods. What method is there?

Ideally, you make him irrelevant by listening and speaking to people who won't vote for you but being decent about their concerns anyway.

There is no way of ridding politics of right wing movements. There just isn’t and it would be completely undemocratic to do so. Every country in the world has a right wing political party with a large enough following that they feature in the media.

The good news is Reform are not about to be the next government. Think of Farage and his ilk as background chatter, an annoying colleague at work. You can’t stop them, but it won’t result in anything, it’s just an irritation to put up with. I don’t waste my energy engaging his fans, I just rise above it unless they seem open to proper debate. They go low, we go high.

Ultimately you don’t have the ‘right’ to change anyone’s minds any more than they have the right to change yours.

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 11/06/2024 16:10

Yes, being decent about people's opinions that fall outside your voting pool is anti-democratic. Okay then. 🙄

ShiteRider · 11/06/2024 16:15

It was wet cement wasn’t it? not rocks

Tracker1234 · 11/06/2024 16:18

Betsy - so if someone disagrees with what you believe in its OK to throw rocks at them, what about shooting them? With respect do you know who this sounds like?

ARichtGoodDram · 11/06/2024 16:20

Wet cement can cause horrible burns.

Its a horrific thing to throw at someone.

shittestusernameever · 11/06/2024 16:22

People who cheer this behaviour on are utter scum imo and always the same type of people.

MrsJackThornton · 11/06/2024 16:25

I cannot stand the man and I loathe and despise everything he stands for

It's still absolutely wrong and he, and the police and security allocated to protect him who may not share his political views, should be put in physical danger.

Tracker1234 · 11/06/2024 16:28

Just seen the video, the little scum bag coward jogging off and could have got away until the police officer rugby tackled him. Bet he is some no mark trying to get his 5 mins of fame. His mug shot is clear though so if he had managed to run off then he would have been found.

This time all is OK but President Regan, The Pope, JFK the list goes on. Next time it might be different and all those people cheering this on need to hang their heads in shame. What if you believed in something and someone took offence to it to such an extent they attacked you maybe fatally. Would that be OK?

Clearly for some it is!

SeverinaVichenza · 11/06/2024 16:30

Horseshoe theory, the thread.

DogInATent · 11/06/2024 16:32

Farage courts this, it doesn't make it right - but he knows he's divisive, and he knows that division strengthens him amongst his core support. He was probably hoping for a few more milkshakes rather than builder's waste. It keeps him in the papers and on the BBC twenty times a week. He'll be even more insufferable once he makes the switch to the Conservatives.

His wee acolyte Yaxley-Lennon is the same, but he'd be using it to stoke up his ultras to start throwing cobbles at the antifa.
