I'm no fan of this man but this is just not cricket!!

A many appears to throwing rock like stuff from a bin at Farage

Thankfully the rocks missed him and I hope everyone else is safe on that bus

IMO, Farage should now get police protection

You're being needlessly dramatic in ascribing all kinds of terrible characteristics upon me when I haven't said anything all that outrageous.

I don't think anyone should throw things at him. But no, I don't have any compassionate response in me towards him. If he wants to fuck around and find out, that's his choice. I won't be ruing the consequences of his actions.

Dramatic? It was wet cement in a cup today, but what if it wasn't? What will it be the next time? Who will it be towards?

All violent attacks against political figures need to be condemned.

Two MP's have been killed in this country.

Refusing to condone this violence today contributes to this hostile environment where democracy is at risk.

ARichtGoodDram · 11/06/2024 15:01

All that violence does is make the reporting all about that and take away space that could be filled by reporting on his (and his company members) comments showing their clear racist views over the years.

Turning him into the victim will be a win for him and playing right into his hands

Yeah, it's a dangerous world. So maybe don't go around with a megaphone announcing to everyone that you're a massive racist bellend?

Churchview · 11/06/2024 15:04

OP is BU.
FARAGE is not OK!!

Churchview · 11/06/2024 15:05

To be fair though, Nige does support cruelty and violence at the boxing day hunt every year so he probably just thinks it's only fair that today he was the game.

ShrinkingEveryDay · 11/06/2024 15:07

BetsyBobbin · 11/06/2024 13:53

@MaryMaryVeryContrary Farage preaches hate, so it's only expected that he's receiving hate back.

Reap what you sow and all that, babes 😉

This. I don’t agree with attacking him but he wouldn’t give a fuck if his hate speech caused attacks on others. I’m struggling to find my tiny violin tbh 🙄

AliceCallous · 11/06/2024 14:40

To be brutally honest, I wouldn't be that bothered if NF did get hit in the head with a large rock. He's never endeared himself to me in any way. If he wants to go around chatting racist nonsense, it's a bit rich to expect me to then worry about his wellbeing.

If I was somebody at marketing for Reform, I would be saving quotes like this, and other ‘death wishes of peace & love’ from the luminaries at Mumsnet, and posting them on every billboard throughout the United Kingdom.

So if people think that (and I don’t disagree with you that he is one), why can’t they just get a megaphone and shout back that he’s a massive racist bellend?

Nobody should be physically put at threat for expressing a view, however abhorrent.

Churchview · 11/06/2024 15:11

Sales of anti-bellend megaphones are going to go through the roof.

Are other people reading a different post from me? All @AliceCallous is saying is she can't bring herself to feel any emotion over the incident, not that she wholeheartedly supports it.

Begsthequestion · 11/06/2024 15:12

He's of the party who said we should let migrants drown so I struggle to muster any sympathy for this one

TuesdayWhistler · 11/06/2024 15:13

I dont like Keir Starmer stance on Gender.
Shall I go throw stuff at him?

How about milkshake?
Rocks?
Bullets?

Where does it end?

I'm not a fan of Dara O'Brien, can I throw shoes at him? Pointy sticks?

And is it just public eye figures, or anyone I don't like?

I don't like the guy mowing his lawn at 8am on a Sunday. Can I throw things at him? Fireworks perhaps?

That woman at Tesco checking my shopping is a bit slow, dont like her much. What can I throw at her?

I'd water I could find something about every poster here that I dislike, can I throw things at you as you go to work?

What's good for goose is good for every gander.

The cowardly.little man that threw things at Farage didn't stand up for his views, didn't debate, didn't argue his points. He threw shit and ran like a coward.

If you don't like Farage, fine, when he's in your town, go and debate him, stand up to his face and tell him and his followers why. Stand up, speak up or stay sitting and don't cheer on someone chucking crap, cause who knows what crap you'd get hurled at you if you stood up.

Go for it, you might be surprised at the support it gets

StripedPiggy · 11/06/2024 15:14

This is extremely worrying. Two MPs have been murdered in the course of their work in the last 7 years, and now a high-profile candidate has been attacked.

I disagree with Farage on most things & won’t be voting for his party, but he is a legitimate mainstream politician who speaks for a significant section of the British public. He is entitled to campaign and he should be properly protected.

People who try to silence him or intimidate him are not democrats. They should be arrested & prosecuted, and if they can’t cope with the fact that democracy entails hearing people you dislike say things you disagree with they should fuck off to China.

....and he has a colleague in Reform UK who that said women should be denied medical treatment until the life expectancy of women comes down to that of men.

Yes, that's precisely what I'm saying.

HRTQueen · 11/06/2024 15:18

No one should be trying to cause physical harm to any politician

This unfortunately plays right into his hands he will absolutely use this as an attack on the people that support him.

The best way to protest against him is to turn your back on him as what he thrives off is attention good or bad (like Trump) this form of protest is far more effective to show you have no respect for them (one Farage has used himself)

Sounds a bit passive. Is there no middle ground?

Wow, hadn't heard that one! Disgusting people.

“Less complaining please from the ‘sponging gender’.” He added that women are “subsidised by men to merely breath (sic)”.
He reportedly wrote in December 2022: “Men pay 80% of tax. Women take out 80% of expenditures.
“Square that inequality first by depriving women of healthcare until their life expectancies are the same as men, Fair’s fair.”

Shock as Reform UK candidate says UK should have been neutral against Hitler

Candidate for Bexhill and Battle also wrote online that women were the ‘sponging gender’ and should be ‘deprived of health care’

I totally agree
As I said, I'm no fan of Farage but attacking politicians is never the way forward

IMO, those caught attacking any politician must serve a min jail term! of lets say 3 year years and I the greater the offence the greater the jail term!!

Edited

does that also apply to those who make racist remarks about politicians or say they want to rape them?

42ndchance · 11/06/2024 15:23

This is quite concerning, wrongly I assumed most people on mumsnet were relatively bright and decent.

That the sentiment 'Violence is wrong...BUT' is being repeated is horrifying.

It doesn't matter how much you hate or dislike the person being attacked, there is no 'but' in that sentence.

Sickening.

I come from a country where it REALLY isn't allowed to have dissenting views. The beauty of the UK is that it is. Please don't lose that. You won't like it when they come for people with your opinions next.

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 11/06/2024 15:26

Startingagainandagain · 11/06/2024 14:45

if you constantly embrace hatred, racism, Fascism and xenophobia and contributed to the lies that brought the Brexit disaster to this country, then I don't think you should not be surprised if some people hate your guts...

No sympathy from me.

I will keep my sympathy for the people who faced/face an increase in hate crimes because of Farage's poisonous rhetoric. I don't think Farage is a 'Politician' either. He is a man with dubious allegiances who only has his own interests at heart, not the country's and to me he is a dangerous extremist.

As someone has said above: you reap what you sow...

So you agree with capital punishment?

HRTQueen · 11/06/2024 15:27

why does it need to be loud

he loves nothing more than media attention and his interactions with those that disagree with him

StripedPiggy · 11/06/2024 15:29

@42ndchance Very well said. 👏👏👏
